Matthew Clarke on Gettable 17/11

Cal Twomey’s Phantom Draft

If we could land them both that would be good, both have some real tricks and both have had their draft years interrupted badly by injury.

Evans in particular has a lot of AFL traits as he can extricate himself out of the contested situation with real damaging speed, he has a degree of evasiveness thats a point of difference, also very handy around the goal face.
If he can harness his ability and stay healthy, then getting him could well turn out to be a steal.

Wes has some tricks but he needs to also concentrate on the less spectacular basics, he doesn't need to try to take mark of the year every game.
Also needs to clean up his shots for goals because when you play deep in the pocket "starvation corner" you really need to make every opportunity count.

Really want Evans and Walley while he would be a nice pick, I would want Evans before him.
Tricks might look great but if they don't have a defensive side to their game are they worth having in a team that is rebuilding ?

Easy fixed, then you just do the research on them, and make your own assessment.

Then you will know what they will or won't bring to the list.

I'm a sharp believer again.

Maybe that's it hasn't leaked as to who we are picking with 1 and 2.

We told harley pick 1 early on we are into him with that pre draft phone call.

**** you wce. I still won't be tuning into draft day if Cal mentions CDT Pick 2 in his last phantom draft. I was meant to bake a cake. I for one am not an bystander for the destruction of this footy club

Right before Twomey releases his phantom...

Cal Twomey said in the latest episode of Gettable that both WA clubs had spoken to Sweid. Didn’t give it much thought at the time because pick 13 was too early and pick 34 too late

After this proposed trade, pick 34 comes closer to pick 27 and depending on what, if anything, Essendon get back from Carlton they may not have anything left to match a bid

Puts him in the frame with our 4th pick if a Williams bid hasn’t come first.

Certainly puts Sweid as an option in the open pool if the likes of Geelong, Freo or Hawthorn want to have a crack
CDT's comfort pony maybe?

They're supposed to be close mates.

So assuming this is correct and we bid on Dean at 2 or 3.

Carlton will match. Absolutely stupid by both sides not to just get a better pick for Chesser then not bid. Could even go one step further and add a bid on Patterson as well as Uwland to make the earliest bid on Dean at 5 instead of 2, a saving of 686 points which would mean any pick beyond pick 16 given for Chesser would have represented better value for both Carlton and certainly us.

Absolute stupidity. Clarke and Austin should be uppercutting each other.

I don't think Dean was really squared up on WC radar when the Chesser deal was done, but I see your point.

They watch and track these kids for years. I’d be surprised if much changed in terms of their assessment of Dean in a month after the season finishes.

Carlton’s move to put picks 9 and 11 firmly on the trade table comes as West Coast prepares to place a bid on Dean as early as pick 2 or 3.

The Eagles are widely expected to select midfielder-forward Willem Duursma with the No. 1 pick, before lodging bids on Gold Coast Suns Academy ace Zeke Uwland and Carlton father-son Dean.

West Coast has been a big fan of Dean throughout the year and some recruiters have suggested that they could mount a case for the Murray Bushrangers defender to be the No. 1 pick this year.

Draft night got a little more interesting? Not really 100% they match

1 - Duursma
2- Uwland
3- Dean
4- Robey/ CDT

So given this, why wouldn’t blues trade 9 to us instead of Essendon, save themselves a heap of points.
Makes no sense given we were reported to be after 9.
Mexican stand off. We lost

They do , however a key defender does not really appear on the top of WC 2025 draft priority lists , hence not really on the radar.

I think you get giving Clarke way too much credit. Genuinely dont think he thinks like this. I think he's a play it simple straight shooter who unfortuntely gets taken advantage of by some clubs who are more ruthless and snakey

We basically gave up pick 20 to move up to pick 13 from that range.

I highly doubt we’re going to move back for a F3.

Suspect eagles have a tier which at least goes up to pick 13. We’re going to be taking that pick.

More like we slid pick 24 back to 34 to get 17 up to 13

I see Greeves sliding a fair bit, don’t think we’ll be keen with his lack of speed, defensive intent and some attitude question marks.

So he's a quintessential Eagles player then

Or maybe Carlton didn't want to come to the party and Clarke's basically gone '**** it' and is punishing them accordingly?

1 2 13

27 take a player or bid on Williams.

If it's a player then we have taken 4 or our 5 spots with 3 NGA FS players still on the board.

Either we are confident they'll slide through the draft or we are happy to let a couple of them go.
