hey guys just dropping in for a question would you have picked up McCarthey with your first pick ? if so i would be so pissed ay GWS why the hell would they need another forward with what they have ? seems stupid to me. who knows he may get longer syndrome and run home to mummy . for a cut price
good luck ahead lads
Brissy stocking up on defenders
I just want GWS to be ground into the dirt game after game after game.
Impressed we've managed to go a full draft thread without anyone writing off one or all of our picks as duds. Kudos.

BigFooty servers suck! I'll offer some more thoughts in the next day or so.
But, I do like what we did - even if I did rate others higher. In Apeness we have a strong contested mark (elite for his age) and a real presence up forward (not just a body, like say a resting ruckman). That's where he differs from Taberner and Gumbleton. And he is a key forward first and foremost, not a ruckman. Had he played at full forward and not in the ruck at the Championships, then I probably would have rated him much higher - as I did earlier in the season. But that's what happens when you're bigger than everyone else on the ground, you're forced to go into the middle.
Whereas had we got McCarthy instead, then we wouldn't really have been any better off for next year. And in the end, we got that athletic project tall in Pearce anyway. I'm sure this was Plan B (no denying that), but Apeness wouldn't have been available at our second pick and nobody else picked up is truly physically ready like him.
As for Marsh, my rating may have been slightly misleading as to his draft position. It was always going to be pick 30+ at the earliest, although I did think he'd get a shot earlier than what he did in the end. The other thing, is that he is just as much of a project as Pearce - only with even more question marks over him. I do think he'll be a good player, but I'm not too bothered in selecting Grey over him considering our first two picks.
Both Pearce and Grey are indigenous.

This is the sort of case where picking best available becomes ridiculous. We assume we would have taken McCarthy but Freo were very keen on Apeness because they think he is ready to go and is one of the best contested marks in the draft. Best for Freo supporters that McCarthy was taken before our pick because it would have gotten very interesting around here if we had have chosen Apeness instead of him![]()
McCarthy will be back in two years for a packet of chips, frustrated from lack of opportunity at GWS. I would think GWS will use him as a backman.
3 indigenous Pearce's. Lucky they all look different.
I have a feeling GWS, particularly Leon Cameron, want their own Fyfe and want to develop McCarthy into a similar player.
