Anyone else read quigley and KP's phantom write ups on McCarthy ?
some good points raised about his alligator snap marking technique and his tiny handspan, short arm length and skinny breadth of shoulder.
Watched the footage again and saw some of this - not sure he'll end up a 'power forward' ala Pav, Cloke, Brown etc . And if this is the case why put development years into him for what may be a flaky, westhoff style CHF ( although westhoff had a handy season just gone ) .
I won't be bummed if we don't get McCarthy, prefer Giles.

Don't rate Zak Jones either - if we burn a first rounder on him it'll be double face palms all around at my place

Yeah bit harsh on McCarthy, I don't like alligators and short-arms either but there's no need to get personal:)
Seriously though, I don't want Zak Jones either. There's a chance he is already playing out of his skin and has nowhere to go except backwards. Or not.

Hmmm interesting stuff re: the handspan. Apparently Mora had the biggest buckets in his draft year.

Same, rate Giles. Same, don't rate Jones. We should hang out.

Done - I drink copious amounts of South American rum, can regale you with exacerbated tales of footy average-ness and am handy rolling double papered doobs - where do you wanna start the night ? :):)

Third rounder on a mature ager? Did I read that as some kind of murmur? As well as some 24-year old from Tassie with our second pick?

Yooooof.

What time (WA time) is this happening? My bloody son had his high school graduation on Thursday... I can just see him having his name called out to go up and get his WACE certificate and he's on his phone checking who Freo have picked up... Meanwhile, I can't even give him the evils to get a move on cos I, too, am on my phone checking out the draft... uurrgghh....

It's clearly the school's fault IP, your son is only human.

Zac Jones has been described as a quicker, bigger version of his brother. I'd be more than happy with that at 17.

Watch his highlight clip - reminds me of a smaller Josh Bootsma.
Does not scream top 30 when you hold him up against Dumont, Dunstan etc who'll be around in the 20's

Its live on Foxtel 504 footy channel

Cheers, but i'll either be busy failing another business exam or sitting on the train on the way home with my little 10 inch computer. I will be relying on all you boy's and girls with your fancy Foxtel to keep me up-to-date. :)

From left field

Perth captain and Sydney premiership captain, Paul Bevan has been linked to Melbourne, the Bullodgs and Fremantle since opting to nominate for the national draft last night.

The 29-year old has spent the last two yeas in the WAFL, after previously playing for the Swans for nine seasons and 129 games, including the 2005 premiership.

Bevan kicked 55 goal this season finishing runner up in the WAFL goal kicking, playing as a midfield/forward.

In a bit of a twist, Bevan has stipulated "terms" on his possible recruitment which require him to be given a two-year contract.

He's reportedly on the radar for Melbourne, the Western Bulldogs and Fremantle.

Key forward Jonathon Marsh is one of the most intriguing recent draft prospects.
Hailing from Margaret River, the grandson of East Fremantle legend Ray Sorrell stands at 192cm and has unnatural pace for a player his size.
But despite starring as a forward for WA this season, there are questions on whether he is tall enough to play the position at the elite level.
And if he can't play forward, is he smart enough to play in the midfield?
The fear of the unknown is likely to see Marsh slide down the draft order when recruiters gather on the Gold Coast for tomorrow's national draft, but with a highlight reel to rival those of Lance Franklin and Jack Darling, clubs may be kicking themselves if they're not brave enough to punt on the electrifying young prospect.
Fremantle are considering selecting the fleet-footed big man at pick No.17, but at this stage it is more likely he would land in the second round of the draft, somewhere between picks 21 and 35.

The draft is also on the AFL website.

It fails every year, typical AFL Telstra website bulldust.

The AFL draft tracker never seems to update until a few hours later, however it is useful tool then.

I'll be at my work xmas party tomorrow night and will be sneaking away with my phone to keep a track and be listening to it on SEN.

Lach72 can you setup the "Welcome Pick #17 Player" threads tomorrow night and add the info etc?

Nope. I've got clients with me at exactly 4pm so I'm screwed at draft time
