For once I'm not expecting a flanker as Bond explicitly said this time we were going needs based.

Yes, I'm setting myself up for a big fall.

actually what he said was -

“Obviously we’ll be filling some specific needs for certain types throughout the Draft, but you can’t be silly about it with each pick. You need to make sure the talent matches that pick as you go.”

Lloyd said Freo would enter Thursday’s Draft with a specific list management model, which doesn’t only cover positional players.

“We’ll be looking at different types of players who may have specific attributes that we think could play roles for the side,” he said.

“With our recruiting, be it through trade and free agency or through the draft, we’re always looking to fill specific requirements in our list management model, so we’ll be working along those lines once again on Thursday.”

Cheers mate, no surprise I took his quote and optimistically reinvented it inside my head!

I am going to get some popcorn for when the servers melt down tonight after Bond/Lloyd pass over 195cm McCarthy for 173cm Taylor.

It should be fun to watch.

We do not have any 173cm mid's, so this could be considered a need. I expect us to look at back pocket with one of our later picks. I feel with Forster leaving we do not have anyone other than Spurr to lock down on a quick small forward.

Lachie Neal would be kept on his toes then. Maybe we can then recruit a 168cm mid with our final pick, to keep Lewis Taylor on his toes, we don't have one of them either. ;)

That would be a serious meltdown.. We have repeatedly said 'NEED' a KPF but wouldn't be surprised if we went for best available again.

I'm not sure I understand this desire to have someone as short as the forward on the forward. Surely bigger is better in a defender so all we should be concerned about is can our guy get there as quick as theirs. In that, pace and a footy brain is whats required.

I'm sure that I'm paraphrasing but was it RTB or someone who said size is a quality all of its own. RTB by and large plays big mids.

Just as a side note imagine Marsh in our midfield.

I think we should pronounce the e. So it would be App-ee-ness.
There's a Beatles song made for him: Apeness is a Warm Gun

Funny enough, I actually thought it was close to that originally before I heard commentators say it, only with a short 'e' sound, so a bit like ap-i-ness. Not sure why I read it that way, probably my continental European roots.

I suspect that is actually right, but in everyday speech the 'e' sound has been lost all together so it becomes ap'ness.

Bolded players are the players we have been rumoured to be interested in.

If this order is correct, Giles could be available at our 2nd pick.

McCarthy, Giles and Thorp would be an unbelievable draft.

I can see it unfolding that both Mccarthy and Acres survive into the teens only to be taken by Sydney and Geelong.

Pick 15 - Sydney - Mccarthy
Pick 16 - Geelong - Acres
Pick 17 - Fremantle - #$@!
