Would love either McCarthy or Acres. And if Marsh were to slide to our second round pick, i'd be stoked.

Do you think that Freo perhaps believe they could grab Jesse Hogan in a couple of years time when his Melbourne contract is up? A forward line of McCarthy/Hogan would be HUGE.

Is it weird that I get more excited for the draft than for christmas?

It's better than Christmas for sure.

Except for a Freo supporter it's the equivalent of hinting all year that you want a nice new jacket only to wake up and find Santa has brought you another ****ing tie to go with the other two dozen hanging in your wardrobe.

Meh. Whoever we get, it's a professional club with recruiters who have a good strike rate. I have faith.

So do I but it's still an exciting time. We are lucky that we're a good team because over the last few years none of our top draft picks have really come on and dominated. Pitt, Morabito Sheridan, Simpson etc. A lot of bad luck there which we need to make up for.

Our first pick this year is quite important. Let's hope we nail it.

Lots of picks Around 20 something though... We haven't had a top 10 pick since 2009 I'm pretty sure, and that was Mora ( :( )

Nup, won't be satisfied unless we take a key position with our first pick, we have midfielders for days, some of whom will probably have to fight for spots as it is already. If McCarthy is available at 17 and we take someone else I will not be pleased.

What's changed in the last day? Yesterday there was no chance McCarthy was going to us.

Did he belt someone at a nightclub or something? Probably not, you'd think he'd get taken at 11 if he did that.

Couple of things: Bontempelli going to the Bulldogs means one of Scharenburg or Aish get to Brisbane, and Carlton are rumoured to be going for a big bodied mid which means Cripps jumps up the order. Those two clubs were seen as the most likely destination for McCarthy.

If Acres and McCarthy are on the table, I won't really care if we take Acres. Remember back to Fyfe (#20) and say Black (#25) or Carlisle (#24). Could be a similar situation. On the flipside there was WC burning picks on Stevens and Weedon before those talls. Will be impossible to know tomorrow whether we've made the right decision.

The club might also factor in their position on Thorp/Marsh/Harvey/Apeness/etc., and how much work they've put into Hogan and if they are confident of him returning west. We could end up with say McCarthy, #37 KPF, Gumbleton, Taberner, Hogan on our list in a few years time. Though there's no guarantees any of those guys will be good forwards in purple, so maybe you still hedge your bets and pick McCarthy.

Looks like Carlton might pick up Cripps. Is there anyone between their pick and ours that would be looking at picking him up?

I could see the Cats being interested (also in Acres). The thing for me with Cats is that they draft for the long term and anyway don't have pressing needs.

The chatter about Carlton liking Cripps is the critical selection hurdle I think.

PATRICK Cripps looms as the player most likely to make a late rise up the draft board, with the West Australian midfielder in line to be Carlton's first draft pick.

The Blues' recruiting team made the trip to Geraldton recently to interview Cripps' family, and the club is known to be keen on securing another inside midfielder.

After his poor testing at the NAB AFL Draft Combine, some clubs believed Cripps could drop out of the first 25 selections but that now appears unlikely for the All Australian.

He may push out fellow West Australian Cameron McCarthy from the spot at the Blues, with McCarthy a chance to reach Fremantle's No.17 selection.

Agree with him to a point. But there is also no point saturating the list with one type of player and then trading them away for next to nothing. But I can understand that he doesn't want to reach too far for a tall that he is not convinced by. [shrug]

Hopefully we'll get lucky and McCarthy and Acres will both be available at our first.

Imagine the cataclysm if we took Acres over McCarthy.

The reality is, I wouldn't be too shocked if it happened... and from what I've seen and heard of Acres... I wouldn't be at all bothered either.

EDIT: Really should read the whole thread before replying but... meh
