For mine, Hannath has shown shedloads more as a FF than Clarke has. Also has the knack of leading straight up the middle instead of to the pocket too.

Hannath is just too lumbering to be anything more than a resting forward. He doesn't have the speed or mobility. After a while, if you permanently plug him at FF, defenders will suss out a way to beat his height. Then he has... bupkus.

I'm just saying he's an alternartive option, and better at it than Clarke. I'm not suggesting he's the next Matthew Lloyd.

Yep agree with these comments. Reminds me a little of Mick Rae (or Ray?) the Perth full foward who kicked a lot of goals. He had no speed but used his (very ample) body to good effect as a stay home full foward, but I admit that is WAFL and not AFL. Just liked Hannath's foward work on a couple of occassions, seems to have the smarts that Clarke doesn't, but I take Salim's point about his lack of pace.

hurry up!!!!

The page worked about 1:01pm but didn't have a broadcast, I refreshed and got the page you see now. Maybe it was cancelled.

I've seen some quotes from Apeness on twitter so maybe they aren't going live with the new recruits. Fair enough, they are probably really nervous and haven't read the Ross Lyon hymn book yet! :D

OK, lets test your theory. My view of our best 22 next year is below. I've listed the fringe players that will be pushing to get into the side in 2014 (in order of how I rank them based on 2013 form):

B: Johnson, McPharlin, Ibbotson, Dawson, Duffield, Spur. Fringe - Mzungu, C.Pearce, Silvagni, Smith

M: Mundy, Barlow, Fyfe, Crowley, Hill, D Pearce. Fringe - Neale, Morabito, Sutcliffe, Sheridan

R: Sandilands, Clarke/Griffin. Fringe - Clarke/Griffin, Hannath, Moller

F: Pav, Gumby, Mayne, Ballas, Walters, Sylvia. Fringe - Suban, De Boer, Bradley, Crozier, Taberner, Mengeola

Other players - Apeness, Simpson, A.Pearce, Howson, Grey, Schloithe and Duffy.

That is massive depth. I'd be surprised to see many of the fringe players (barring major injury runs) getting more than a couple of game next years aside from the bench (Mzungu, Suban, Neale and DeBoer/C.Pearce). I don't see any of our newer drafted players getting a game next year barring major injury or a game against a very weak side.

I agree with 19 of the 20 definites. Gumby not a definite for mine. If Clakre comes on as a forward we may still play an extra running player. While, I also think Taberner may be closer than most people think to being AFL ready. With the addition of Gumby, Apeness and improvement from Smith and Tabs our depth chart in the key positions is significantly up on last year. I think Tabs will be our most improved player, but that is just my view.

Are people forgetting that we are the team that lets "the cobblers to the cobbling".

Bondy's job is to get the best people onto the list and keep them there. It is the development people who are there to "make you all you can be". And RTB to set the roles for people to fill. After that, "the players pick themselves".

We might be putting Gumby ahead of Bradley and Apeness after all others but at the end of the pre-season it will be the player that fills the role the best who gets the gig.

I don't think we have really grasped what a change in culture this is from years past. RTB has very little time for favorates. Yes I know what people say about his time at the Saints but he wasn't in charge of either recruitment or development. He sets very high standards and just picks the people who meet them. This is why people like C Pearce and Walters have come good. "You want to make the team? You need to be better than such and such. Are you putting in the effort he is? Because if you can't do your role as well as he does i'm going with him." On the other hand there were past coaches who had sacred cows.

Not sure if this warrants a separate thread.

We lost both Steve Grace and Ashley Prescot this off season for various reasons. They seem to have been key in getting Fyfe, Crozier, Sutty and the rest of the young brigade to be so good. Is there any word who is going to fill the role going forward.

We still have Haydos and Lloyd but it seems that we have about 12-18 people in the development squad at any point in time and Hayden is a little short on experience. Do we need another one or two here.

Additionally I heard that Prescot's opportunity fell through at the Saints. Is there a chance of him coming back?

FREMANTLE is likely to further bolster an already top-class midfield at Wednesday's pre-season and rookie drafts.
.......Lloyd unveiled a versatile and elite running tall in Pearce from Tasmania as well as his long time close mate Grey, who only converted from a state youth soccer background to play Aussie Rules in 2013.
Grey is expected to emerge into an opportunistic small forward and tough nut inside midfielder as he settles at Fremantle.
He played with Tassie Mariners at under-18s level as well as the latter half of this season at senior level with Burnie Dockers in the Tasmania State league and in the losing grand final against South Launceston.
Pearce is tall and lean expected to develop into a speedy winger or creative defender with enormous endurance running capacity.

Look at who wrote the article. Anything not quoted can almost be assumed to be false/made up. I'm now expecting us to not draft a single midfielder on Wednesday. Also anyone expecting a 199cm guy to play wing clearly doesn't understand the game. A midfielder over 195cm would be a first and if it happens in the next 20 years, the guy who makes it will be some sort of freak. Not only that but he'll be required elsewhere.

:D Down boy

quality journos as usual "so Brady how did you get that tan"

You have got to be joking.

There are two clubs in Western Australia. How many kids did the Eagles pick up? Surely there's about seven, eight people at the absolute most that you have to do some research on.

Shockin' stuff.

We have already appointed "Mark Webber" a while back to replace one of these guys, Im not sure if we still have a gap in our coaching list though.
