We still need more in the middle. Our current crop of kids is good but it wouldn't even get close to matching the power midfield of Geelong and West Coast (when it had it and really it still does), and they kept on drafting quality with their early picks to rotate through the midfield. My ideal side is like Geelong, like WCE, like Centrals...DEEP rotating quality midfields to keep up the relentless attack all 120mins of the game, pref larger bodied as well ala cats. Port as well is heading that way. There is something about Rioli that doesn't quite sit with me, having watched 100's of tapes of all sorts of under 18 games this year I really like what I see with Ward. Small forwards are easier to pick up and develop later in the draft, unless they are an absolute major standout.

Easy to criticise TS at the moment, we will see in a few years time. I haven't seen Ward play but reading the opinions of those with credibility on the D&T board, Ward sounds like a very good pick. Although the Crows need a crumber you don't pass over talent like Ward.

Hi guys, (I have posted this same message on the main draft page, but also want crows supporters feedback)

What I would love to know, if possible possibly from someone in the know how, who works within a recruitment team for any of the AFL clubs, is which players do most supporters think will go early but will end up going really late and possibly not even getting picked up (eg in recent years i'm reminded of Ruory Kirkby, expercted to go top 20 but ended up being picked up as a rookie), and which players do fans expect to be picked up latter eg 30+ but will end up going high eg top12. (recent eg Boak expected last year to go 15-20 ended up pick 5).

I want to decrease the element of surprise a little bit.

Your feedback would be great.

My non-informed tip is Nick Salter from Eagles, expected to go in the rookie draft, i think will go around 35.

Agree here mate, whilst he has some very good reports, I am yet to be convinced about Rioli, he just fails to excite me too much. I do admit we need a quality, quick, small forward, and he seems to be the best, but Maric and Vezpremi excite me more, although the likelyhood of those 2 falling to 27 isn't high i wouldn't have thought and pick 10 seems a little high.

Slider: Alex Rance

Bolter: Callan Ward.

Exactly my view.

Will feel kind of underwhelmed with Rioli at 10 but fear that it's definitely too early for Maric and just a little bit too early for Veszpremi. I wouldn't put Maric at 27 out of the question, but I also wouldn't bank on it.

There were those who criticized some of us for dummy spitting over the Bulldogs pulling a last minute shaft with pick 22, which they traded to WCE instead of giving it to us as was originally thought would be the case.

That loss of 8 spots from 22 to 30 may make all the difference in picking up a player such as Maric.

I really wish that we had got pick 22.

Yeah, the bulldogs really screwed us over big time with that tricky little move, I really hope Rendell learns from that big time, surely we could have found something to offer as well as hudson for that pick, I mean if we were just going to delist Pfeiffer or Hinge, surely we could have added them as sweeteners to the deal, but thats all speculative, we should have atleast said early second round, not just anywhere.

I didn't have the heart to bring it up...but I really think having Pick 27 as our first pick after 10 will sting.

Totally agree. I rekon there will still be a sliding first round worthy player at 22 but come 27 he will definitely be gone. 22 is pretty much where the cut-off is between the top guys and the 'rest'. Just have to hope someone good slides our way.

Went with McGinnity with 2nd pick, great offensive and defensive, can really tag well but also attack footy hard with good speed and skills. One of WA's gun players but doesn't get accolades.

Definitely agree here, since i think Greenwood, Vez and Maric had gone. I get the feeling though that he will be the huge bolter come draft day, a young tagger who can hurt the opposition to take over from shirley would be great to pick up.

20 is not enough when we have picks 27 and 30 (and even 38) ... so here's a top 30 without any real consideration for club's needs etc

Kreuzer, Morton, Cotchin, Henderson, McEvoy, Palmer, Masten, Ebert, Grimes, Meyers, Otten, Grant, Dangerfield, Ward, Selwood, Rance, Maric, Gourdis, Simpson, Collier, Rioli, Pears, Greenwood, Lobbe, McGinnity, Tarrant, Farmer, Jacky, Armstrong, Curnow.

Nice list.

Couple of questions though. Which Simpson is that (Dawson or Scott) and what makes you think Armstrong and Curnow will go that highly?
