Walsh is a dud. D U D. Werribee named 12 possible interchange
players for Werribee seniors on sat. Walsh was not named. Why?
Because he is playing exactly where he belongs because of his
speed, endurance, agility and toughness. He was a bad #4 pick.
He ain't gonna get any better. Move on.

Your the man. There are others that want him to stay on.

RE: Charman

We require a mature ruckman to replace Darcy, I have heard Charman is a personal friend of Aker and Aker has been pushing his case with the coaching staff. If a suitable trade could be arranged.
Our first round draft choice (# 4 or 5) is not nogiatable.
If Jordy wants to go back to Adelaide, Ken McGregor could be an option, I didn't realise that he is 195cm & 97kg but will be 27 in January.

I hope we don't trade away our first round draft pick. With #4/#5 we should be able to secure a quality player - hopefully KPF.

I'd be much more inclined to trade a player for a first round draft pick, and then use that pick to trade for a player of our needs.

I'd rather us steer clear of McGreggor unless he came very cheap. He's a 'workhorse' and OK as a third tall, but he lacks class and would be overwhelmed as the #1 tall.

Not to keen on Jordy for McGregor because of McGregor's
age. How about Jordy and Eagleton for McGregor and Meeson.
We'll throw in 3rd round pick. Then we trade Street or Minson.
I know we won't get much for Street.

Western Bulldogs president David Smorgon says the club will do whatever it can to recruit powerhouse forwards and defenders in an attempt to return to the AFL finals in 2008.

Admitting the Bulldogs need to add height and muscle to the team to improve on a disappointing 2007 and reach the finals next year, Smorgon said the club had to trade for, unearth or develop match-winners in the mould of the Brisbane Lions' Jonathan Brown.

"We have the commitment, the determination, I say we even have the talent, we've certainly got a lot of talent," Smorgon told the lunch before Sunday's game against Hawthorn at Telstra Dome.

"Yes, we need a bit more height.

"We do need a couple of powerful, tall backs and forwards, we need to develop more muscle on our blokes, but we know we've got the talent on our list to be able to get back very, very quickly."

"Those people like a Jonathan Brown are very much in demand and they're very hard to find, so we'll be doing whatever we can to attract those sort of players that we know we need to strengthen our list."

Smorgon conceded the Bulldogs' 2007 season had not met expectations after their breakthrough year last year, when they reached the finals and won through to the final six.

"This year will no doubt go down as a disappointing year for the club particularly coming off a very encouraging and successful 2006 season," he said.

"It is fair to say that we expected to finish around the top four in season 2007 given the development of some of the younger guys, the recruitment of Jason Akermanis and the return from injury of Luke Darcy, Robert Murphy and Mitch Hahn."

The Bulldogs are only a rough chance to reach the finals this season, and Smorgon said the side's inconsistency, and inability to win more than two games in succession, had been frustrating.

That yo-yo form was illustrated by wins over top eight sides Geelong, Port Adelaide, Collingwood and Hawthorn (in round five), but costly defeats to strugglers Melbourne and Carlton.

"When you look at where they are on the ladder (14th and 15th) and their form, those games have really cost us and probably have cost us the opportunity to play finals for the second year in a row," Smorgon said.

"We can't look forward to next week after next week, but we can look forward to next year and that's the nature of this business.

"I can assure you, all of us at the Bulldogs will continue to work as hard and as smart as we can to make sure we regroup and we rebound as strong as we need to in season 2008."

I hope to GOD that Eade hasn't been told he has to go for a quick fix or something stupid... if we trade, it should be for MORE draft picks. We have so many gaps in our team. It's time to take a reality check, look at what we need and realise that we can't just top up and become a flag threat.

We need to draft, and draft for needs and accept the fact we aren't as good as we thought, and build a friggin balanced and quality list. Absolutely nothing to gain getting guys like McGregor and Playfair. We'd be better off trading out guys like Eagleton and getting more draft picks.

As I said in another thread. I know for fact, Farren Ray wants a long term contract and hes willing to leave Doggies to go get it

I heard the interview, and your concerns are valid, based on what I heard.

You think Smorgo is after a quick fix - finals next year no matter the effect it'll have long term?

If so, he should quit. Get lost. He's done a lot for the club but needs to left Eade do his job the way he sees fit to do it.

This the same Walsh that has played 1 senior game his entire life and played at Werribee reserves yesterday?

thats 1 game more then me and you and most if not all people on this board:eek:

yeah he should be on our list he is only 22? but has never had to develop into a power forward we have wanted, due to injurys broken leg and knee reco ect and pods and werribee, werribee do what they need to win a premirship and have pods as there focal point, and dog players filling spots.

this is why we need our own reserves next year

look at williams who has come on after injurys he got himself right and is looking good, if walsh can do the same i think we will the same development as williams this year.

lets not forget that he was flying before doing his knee in 2006

i posted this on another thread but thought i would post it here as well.

the mental approach of the playing group is poor. The leadership on the field is poor. We cant handle pressure and our skill level has dropped majorly since last year. We look tired and disinterested. It would hard to pick ONE player that u could say would be in some sort of form.

We have no ruck. Our mids even though they have decent bodies are slow, and cant win the clearances. I would hate to play in our defensive 50 with how it gets bombarded time after time down there.

When Lewis can outbody Williams close to goal to take a one-on-one mark, u know we have problems.

Players like sewell tore us a new one yesterday. Him, mitchell, lewis, hodge...decent bodied mids that put their body on the line and run hard. We dont have that atm.

Eade needs to make some harsh decisions and needs to DRAFT for needs and BUILD a team that CAN win a premiership. Either one of fev, white, mcgregor or whoever isnt gonna do SQUAT for our chances next year.

I take my hat off to the hawks. The last 3 drafts they have drafted for needs, and to think players like Dowler, Bailey, Renouf, Muston and Thorp will be coming into the side in the next few years.

This is where we have to get to with the next 2 drafts.

There is no quick fix here. Its about time the coach sat down with the recruiters and gave them a list of the types that eade thinks we need, and draft them.

I don't think this is in Williams fifth season. I may be wrong but I don't think so. At least Tom had a preseason game in which he looked good. Walsh has never looked any good.

Agree, I can't ever remember Walsh being a quality player before all these injuries! Never have I seen him do anything to justify being a top 4 draft pick! Sure injuries have cut him down over the last 2 years but before that?? Still couldn't get a kick at Werribee!

Agreed, Walsh has shown very little and even his debut was hardly earned.

Digressing if I may, on the Sunday Footy Show Bill Brownless suggested that Russel Robertson would not be at Melbourne next season.

Worth going for as a forward option? Or is he too small to be the guy we need?
