Re: Drafts Thread

Palmer is a 6 foot nuggety type who can win his own ball and aggressive around the stppages. Got a good sidestep and baulk and change of direction which is vital in close. Quick over the first few steps. Not express speed but good acceleration.
But will also run forward of the ball and be damaging. Good endurance as well.

He is a little bit older than some other midfield prospects this year and was playing in the dominant WA team so that needs to be looked at. How he finishes off the year will determine if his form at the U18s was a purple patch or is "his level". Playing seniors in the WAFL now.

Thanks for that, I haven't seen him and am really only going on what has been written up about him. If you're saying he's an inside midfielder with the ability to finish then I'm all for him.

He tore it up in the U'18 championships. When I was watching Vic Metro v WA I was amazed. He got something like 35 possies and like 3 goals. Set up a few more if I recall correctly

Re: Drafts Thread

Anyone remember Neil Bristow back in the late 70's 80's?? Won a best rookie award at the club, his Son James is playing for gippsland in the Tac cup. I'm sure the club would be interested in him, can play forward, back or in the ruck... Hgt 196 Wgt 95...

Unlike his father though, he can run and jump!!!!

Re: Drafts Thread

6. Steve Gaertner (Wing / HBF / Kef Def)
Athletic freak who needs to be taught how to play, where to go, how to get the footy and where to kick it. That said he is 196cm, can run like the wind and leap tall buildings in a single bound. Someone will take him as a project player and it will be very early on. If he learns to kick he will compete with Jarred Brennan and Lance Franklin for highlight-reel time. Better prospect than the likes of Tom Williams who went mucho early too.

is he related to jesse wells?

Re: Drafts Thread

I'd like us to draft someone with good footy smarts.

We've set ourselves up nicely in terms of runners, so it's time we drafted for our needs.

Re: Drafts Thread

It remains to be seen if the AFL clubs are still interested in old-school gorilla FFs. Tarrant has shown some remarkable bursts of form for his club. Thrown defenders about like confetti and waged one-man warfare against backlines. At 196cm he is tall, he is physical, he will bulk up, and roam about the forward-50 letting people know he is there. Not as quick as Barry Hall or Fev
but from the same school.
Tarrant stands out like dogs balls to me. I would so love to have someone like this at the club if he can play. Providing this kid can actually play and that there is no standout when we get our pick surely this would be the route to take? Wouldn't mind having him and Harris as the bookends with big Will roaming the centre of the ground in a few years time, bring a bit of mongrel back to the dogs :D

Sounds good to me too.

Father/son?

It's bid this year isn't it - not an automatic 3rd rounder.

Neil Bristow was meant to be our big recruit in about 1979. From memory he was given #24 of Gary Dempsey, and held a prominant position on the team Poster / Calender of that year. He never lived up to the hype though.

Re: Drafts Thread

Damn.

He'd have been very handy.

But don't worry - we've had our fair share bad luck: Wayne Deledio, Ben Reid's father, Matthew Lloyd's father etc :(
Maybe they should change the rule to, 100games with your club, or any games if your club was the only club he played for?

Re: Drafts Thread

I read the other day that Libba's son got BOG in some school match or something in the midfield.

Maybe if hes a bit taller (and faster) than his father he might be worth looking at as possibly a hard body in the midfield for us.

Sorry, we'll be getting him under the new: assistant coach/son rule.

I'm pretty sure he was #27. Kicked the winner against Hawthorn in a huge upset.

He certainly did wear #27 CS.

The game you refer to was Round 11 in 1979.

Final score was Hawthorn 15.10.100 defeated by Footscray 15.11.101.

From memory that was the game where Don Scott was scathing of us in the paper on the Monday saying we didn't have a plan B & were lucky to win.
