geelong has had one good year with the same players that had 3 crap years previously. they changed their attitude and their system, not their list.

So will our attitude change overnight like Geelong's has. Eade has stated publicly that the 'culture' at our club is quite pathetic, our playing group almost accept poor performances from one another. Eade has tried to instill a new culture into these B - grade players, but it hasn't worked. Time to bring in some new cattle.

And what makes you think other teams want to trade their solid AFL players who fulfil their team role for our 'underperforming cats'? are their brains trusts just ******ed, or what?

We have an abundance of outside running players at present, too many in fact. Most of them are quite reasonably skilled and some are very good players. Other teams in the competition do not. We have to work out a best fit strategy and try and sell our players to these clubs. It is not like the players I rate as B graders have no market value, they do and would fit in well at many clubs in the comp who require some 'finishing' types. We have many finishers, but no starters and that is an area that needs to be improved.

that IS Eades job - to 'coach' the players.

this makes more sense, and if the rumours are true, jordie wants to go home to SA anyway, so no harm to team fabric in a trade. chances are, if that happens, its probably enough anyway, because there just wont be that many players available to trade that fit our needs anyway.

So what happens when the message doesn't get through. Who goes the players or the coach? At present Eade still has a couple of years on his contract so if he wants to keep his job post this term then he would want to hope that the team improves. So if these players are 'uncoachable' in terms of improving the culture and all that involves then he should get rid of some of this group and bring in some new players that might. It's a dog eat dog world and if he doesn't make moves now he will be out of a job soon after, that's how ruthless this game is.

we all know what happens - the coach goes.

we are playing fairly poorly across the board in the second half of this year. there is some factor(s) at work which must be addressed. On paper, the team is as good as I have seen it for many years (without taking injuries into account). wholesale trading, even if it could be arranged, is not the way to go about it. Eade has a lot of work to do. Hopefully the midfield will be fit enough to simply drop those players who arent performing to standard. A fit west, cross, cooney and grifen will go a long way to providing the required competition for midfield spots.

even hawthorn, who have tipped out some 'good' players in recent times and picked up excellent draftees thereby did not do it wholesale. they did one player a year - the market couldnt absorb all those players and still get a reasonable price for them.

try and tip out guido, macmahon, eagleton and ray (to name the usual suspects) all in one year and see how much you would get for them.

You forgot ABILITY!

Not sure about that. If you are saying he is not a complete player, I agree. I have always questioned his attack on the footy and have stated numerous times that it is probably the hardest thing to teach. He has undoubted talent though, and would not have lasted past pick 10 in the draft.

He might not be everything you had hoped for, but he does have ability.

Not sure that McMahon would be the type that Lethal would be a fan off. While he is a good runner, Lethal tends to go for those with a bit of grunt about them & I worry that McMahon would be chewed up & spat out at the Lions. Anyone with the slighest tendancy not to be hard 100% of the time doesn't survive.

I would be suprised if Charman left the Lions, but if he did it would cost the club he leaves for a bit in trade terms. Obvioulsy he would be high in demand many Vic clubs would be on his tail.

Its hard with the Dogs it does look from the outside they have a few excess runners. Quick fix or develop your own?

One thing I would say is that the dogs should try & stop bringing the likes of McDougal. Its an each way bet, either get tried & true or grow your own.

I would be inclined to draft the likes of Henderson. You guys have been stiff in that the KPPs you have gone for in the past like Walsh & Williams have had no luck injury wise.

Build a team around the likes of Williams & Everitt, your young runners have plenty of time left in them if a few more KPPs & young ruckman can be fed in over the next few years you will be in good shape.

Just my 2c worth.

i was saying trading McMahon to port for pick 15 and the using that pick to get charman

Have you seen these guys play?

no i haven't but all the talk about these 2 seems to me to be the 2 types of players we should draft with our first pick, you even picked henderson, now come draft day i would be happy with who clayton picks, he knows what he is doing and im sure he already knows who he will get.

bizzare rumour on port board of eagleton traded to port?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm a big Eagleton fan and would be sorry to see him leave.
Love his goals from outside 50 but yes, he is a bit one sided (altough shock horror he has been chipping some around on the right foot this year).

Not sure how this would go. He's not young and is probably worth more to us than what anyone would want to give up.

Would probably have to be a player trade as I'd want a 2nd round draft pick for him which is more than anyone would be prepared to pay.

Would be an interesting scenario for both Monty and Eagle to end up back at original clubs.

A couple of things.

mjp was stuck at work and I picked Henderson @ 7 for him.

We also don't have pick 7, we have pick 5 (I'm not even considering winning this week, we'll get smashed).

Kreuzer, Cotchin, Morton & Ebert went top 4. Masten and Palmer went 5 & 6.

If Ryce Palmer was available, you'd have a real hard think.

Crap. He is a tall play with key position potential at AFL level. If we are counting on any 18year old kid - especially one who is in his first year - to make 'the difference', then we are collectively kidding ourselves.

That said, there is nothing wrong with the idea of drafting Henderson. But it really is pot luck with these things...he may or may not turn out to be everything he currently promises to be. So whilst he might be what the 'Dr ordered', he might also be the second coming of Tim Walsh, whose promise as an 18 year old (although he had what I would call 'intensity issues' as well) has been cut down due to injury, coaching and opportunity (in that order).

You do make a valid point, particularly with KPP's as they really can be hit & miss ala Walsh. Just out of interest, would you rather The Dogs keep their first rounder & draft Henderson, or use the pick to lure Fevola?

Also, what's Henderson's intensity levels like? As you stated, this is an area in which Walsh really lacks in. How is Henderson? If they're up and he's a strong mark, a good kick & a good mover then you'd think he'd at least be a serviceable player.

It's a tough choice; personally I hope we keep the pick and draft Henderson (if he is available, that is) because we've got far too many holes in our side currently. It's not as though it's a matter of getting a gun FF and being a flag threat. Realistically, we need to find ourselves a quality ruckmen and a couple of inside midfielders who are able to apply intense defensive pressure.

Darren Jolly; how old is he? I would like the club to look at him. What would his asking price be?

Re: Darren Jolly..

Can I confirm as a synopsis of everything:

Retired:

Monty
Darcy
Robbins

Delisted:

West (R)
Walsh
Faulkner
McCormack
Baird

Traded:

McMahon
Ray
Power
Boyd or Cross (For Fev..... )

12 players from the list? Is that all?

Skipper and Street are lucky we don't have any ruckmen in waiting...

Outs

3 retirements (Darcy, Robbins and Monty)

Faulkner gone

Baird and/or McCormack gone

McMahon likely traded to SA (probably Adelaide)

>=6 outs

Ins

Meesen and/or McGregor (for McMahon plus whatever balances the deal)
Harbrow (from rookie list)
4 draft picks

>=6 ins

henderson is the 1 that keeps poping up in draft talk, and as i did say i'd be happy with who clayton pick, and i trust him, he'll have his player in his mind to get.
the other thing is when it gets to draft day anything could happen, wasn't higgins looking like to go at 5-7 we got him at 11 same as Salopek, he was another who should have gone higher by all reports

This time last year Higgins was thought to be going about pick 40. He really only started getting mentioned in the last two weeks before the draft.

I would think a Meesen & Bock for an exchange of 2nd round picks would almost clinch the deal.
Do not forget Meesen has wanted t ocome home for a while, he is very mobile and has by some reports played some decent footy in the SANFL be it inconsistently at times.
Bock has shown an ability to take a contested mark and can play at both ends, something that would appeal to Eade.

Wouldn't we be more likely to get someone from the Crows like Douglas than Bock? I rate Bock but the Crows aren't exactly flush for tall key position players themselves and they would want to keep an in favour local boy. Douglas is a good in and under midfielder and a decent mark plus he can kick a goal and wins contested footy. He's been dropped a few times so he might become expendable for them. Meesen and Douglas might be worth considering in exchange for McMahon because I can't see them wanting to part with Bock.

I do not believe that to be the case. He was considered a 10 to 20 selection. If you were rated at 40 in the 2005 draft then you were not rated much at all.

Bock would require something like McMahon and pick 5. Thats what a fairly young KPP who can play both ends at a high level like Bock would require.

With Roo retiring and Edwards and Goodiwn with 1 or 2 years left only along with Mcleod I cant see Douglas being traded either.

Henderson has been injured for most of the year and hardly played any TAC footy and missed the U18 Championships. So sometimes that can work out like a Williamas or it can work out like a Walsh after you draft them.
