With Roo retiring and Edwards and Goodiwn with 1 or 2 years left only along with Mcleod I cant see Douglas being traded either.

I can see what you are saying but McMahon would be the replacement for McLeod and you have players like Pfeiffer and Porplyzia and Vince coming through as well.

I understand what you are saying about Bock but not necessarily Douglas.

:eek:I'm not even sure last years Coleman medalist is worth that much.

Maybe not but try looking at it for Adelaide. What are the odds that the best KP in the draft (lets say its Hebnderson) gets to the level that Bock is now.
BOG last night and can take a pack mark at CHF and his kicking is quite good. Or get 20 possessions and win most of the 1 on 1s at CHB. Big and strong and a good athlete and skills.

Bock is 24 and someone like Henderson might take 5 years to be able to really influence games and be arounds Bocks ages now when thats the case. If injury does not cruel him before that and if Henderson develops as expected after the draft. The problem is that "as expected" falls short a lot of the time.

There is a market for talls and prices have been framed. Ottens, Richards, Hay, Tarrant and so forth. You adjust it for the players age, injury concerns, attitude, off field dramas and the strength of the draft.

But if you think you get Fevola for pick 5 and McMahon then I disgaree. Carlton would want more than that. Pick 5 is like pick 15 from last year. Take Tarrant as the example and Fevola is worth at least 25% more than that and pick 8 last year is more like 2 or 3 this year.

I would not be trading for Fevola if I was the Dogs as the way they have finished off the year has changed my mind on it. But i am trying to be realistic as to what players would cost.

Richards pick 19. Hay 14 and 18. Tarrant 8 (and change) in the superdraft. Thats 3 talls from the last few years to get an idea what it would cost.

Lets say Carlton offer pick 3 for Brian Harris? Would you do it? What are the odds of getting a tall who can get to the level of Harris? Where would that leave the list while waiting for someone else to be able to play full back on Brown, Gehrig, Fevola, Lloyd and co?

I like Bock, i really do. But only as a defender. It seems Adelaide don't even know where to play him. Anyway, we are sort of getting off track now, as Bock isn't on the cards.

He has kicked 29 goals this year with about 2/3 of his gametime being up forward and the rest down back. Craig has said he wants to play him at CHB but with the injury to Roo and Hentchel they have struggled to have potentcy up forward and played him at CHB.

I think he can play either end to a pretty good level but could be an AA at CHB if allowed to settle there long term. Or a 40 goal a year forward if played at CHF week in week out.

Nice.....so..are the bulldogs looking at him?

you would tell them to **** off, fast forward 12 month what if we are in the same position, grant gone and west maybe, what would you do if clubs offered picks for the likes of harris, he'd be worth 2 first rd pick.
would you bottom out and build a team around williams everitt cooney griffen higgins and so on.

now it would still be a **** off about harris, but in 12 months you'd have to think long and hard on which way you'd want us to go if things dont change.

btw i think 2008 will be a good one get back some key players in griffen and even cross with murph hahn gia cooney aker higgins and all the side having a big pre season and get fitter, we will be better.;)

I don't understand why most here think we'll get full value for McMahon.

McMahon is kind of a distress sale of an asset which isn't desperately needed by the Crows or Port. Meanwhile several Melbourne clubs want a ruckman like Meesen.

If he returns to SA, i can see us getting a lot less than many expect here and I can't see them trading away a KPP unless he definitely isn't required.

Adelaide has an aging midfield. They aren't ultra quick, McMahon would add to their list (a 24 year old fast player with good skills). Port may be less interested.

Meesen is out of contract and may want to head back east. This significantly lessens Adelaide's bargaining position with other Vic clubs having 1st PSD pick. Not to mention he hasn't shown much (but does have potential).

Probably a question to ask is whether McMahon is contracted. If he isn't for next year, you may be right. If he is, well we can say no to a shit trade.

Would expect something to be packaged with Meesen our way if this deal occurred, as McMahon is a proven AFL player, Meesen isn't (and we have enough tall unproven AFL standard players on our list, without giving away our players for another one).

DONT TEAR ME TO SHREDS, but would anyone want josh hunt from geelong. A big bodied b/p-hb flanker, that could EASILY do the kick-out duties to allow gilbee to play further up the field.

Anyone?

Which is exactly my point.

Trying to find very good talls is extremly hard. Harris is worth more than pick 3 to the Dogs. The odds of a Henderson making it to the level of Harris would not be that high. The odds of getting a very good midfielder at pick 3 is quite high but KP talls is a lot lower.

They are more valuable and to trade for 1 costs an arm and a leg but drafting them can be very hard. Hence the dilemna.

I had a quick look through the top 20 draft picks from 2000 to 2003 who were KP talls. So they have had a few years to show something and its still in the modern era of clubs taking the draft seriously. About 19 KP talls taken (out of 80 players). 4 or 5 are already finished. About 4 or 5 are very good players and thats about it. The strike rate looks like going up with the 2004 draft of Franklin, Roughead, Williams but its way below 50% of talls taken in the top 20 of becoming quality AFL players. There are huge risks with injury for young KP talls. If they can get through there first 2 years and have whole pre seasons and gain fitness and strength then the strike rate is much higher. But a few of them get injured early on and never seem to get there body right after that.

So Adelaide would be loathe to trade Bock and same for Fevola. The only reason Fevola might be available is due to his attitude problems. But even then I am not sure pick 5 would be enough.

Yeah agree, but for piss weak journalists who watch us twice a year and blame our lack of tall forwards as the reason we have gone backwards. If you watched the team on a consistent basis, like many on this board you would quickly learn that we need more than just some tall forwards to become a better team, although it would help.

Rant over...

Agree completely pigdog, a lot of other teams posters think the same thing.
Most other boards trade lists have their dud talls as a potential to trade to the dogs

What would you give for David Hille, he's a good ruckman who has presence and is very good at floating forward and pinching goals. List as many options as you can. I wouldn't mind one of your KP backs, are Williams or Wright available for trade?

Trade

With your need for a KKP and/or ruckman/come forward, is it reasonable to suggest you may be interested in a Meesen or McGregor from Adelaide?

If Adelaide trade you their first round pick (ie pick 10-13) along with Meesen and/or McGregor in exchange for your pick 5, would that interest your clubs needs? With pick 5 the bullies would probably have to pick the best available player (probably a midfielder) which doesn't really meet your first priorities. At pick 10-13 you could pick up the best or 2nd best KPP (ie Alex Rance, Ben McEvoy or David Gourdis) and also gain Meesen and/or McGregor who are ready made, thus meeting your immediate demands.

The crows would use pick 5 to secure a midfielder (thus suited our priorities).

Thoughts???

We might take a midfielder with the first pick in the draft. What point is a Full Forward if you can't kick it to him?;) I thought about being harsh and saying 'Watch a Bulldogs game board'. But even the most 'knowledgeable' of journalists thinks all we need is a tall forward.

Hille has been pathetic for a couple of years now. Lets not beat around the bush, he's trade value is poor for a big fella. Specially with Ryder and Laycock coming along. But Williams is completely out of the question, and i can't see us trading away any young KP's.
