Thanks for letting us know.

Do any of us really have a grasp on what our clubs may or may not do next week?

No, but Roughead's family made it very clear to Hawthorn that they do not want to see him traded (Roughead was offered to West Coast as part of the deal to get Judd, but without his family's knowledge). Now that Hawthorn has no chance to get Judd, Roughead will be off the table.

I am not sure about the top 5, but I will comment on the others with a doggies player reference for anyone who hasn't seen them.

Henderson: I dont think he attacks the ball hard enough, and I think he decides when he will and when he wont go - plays on his terms. This worries me because I think intensity is hard to coach. Reminds me of: Tim Walsh (probably doesn't help non Werribee watchers though).

Rance: I haven't really seen enough of, but is certainly a good mover and ball user. Seems more a 'reader of the play' defender than contested ball winner or forward. Has at least one big fan who posts here who will (I'm sure) happily post more about him. Game style? Maybe Craig Ellis at his best?

Gaertner: I really like this kid because he is an athletic freak who really (in the times I have seen him) has a go. He runs really hard, goes for his marks and is a real handful - I have also seen him play well as a defender/midfielder and as a forward...he does have kicking 'issues' though, and whilst he seems to do the job welll enough, can miss targets and with his ball drop, it is going to take a lot of work to fix. In terms of game style, I think of Andrejs Everitt.

All that said, I suspect they will be picked as you nominated them - first Hendersen, then Rance, then later on with Gaertner.

As for having my finger on the pulse, I doubt it. Everitt aside, I hadn't heard of a single one of Clayton's other picks last year and I suspect it will be the same again...

I agree i really like Stevey Gaertner and i would be very happy if the tigers picked him up with pick 18 or 19. What are your thoughts on young Myke Cook, i have heard good things about this player, what are your thoughts.

Stefan Martin 198cm 95kg 20y.o Versatile KKP/Ruckman

Newcomer to footy, basketball background. Started playing footy a yr ago in the under 19's amatuers and got best in the league after only playing 7games. Played for sandringham vfl firsts this yr and impressed kicking goals as well as winning in the ruck. Athletic, great leap, can play forward. Was also best on ground for Vic versus Allies last week. Would have been as good as Kreuzer if he had play from a young age. Will defiantly be rookied, or drafted from 30 onward. Ricky Nixon (player manager) gives him big raps.......will also be attending the Vic state screening tomorrow.

Re: Pick 5

So we take Palmer and not worry about tall forwards?

Take Kennedy and pick 20.

The idea is to build the best team, not have the best group of players.

I'm sure there are better qualified people than me however I'm not convinced McEvoy is a no. 5 pick.

If I had to choose between Kennedy & 20 for 5 vs McEvoy. I'd go for JK, The President!!!

I would swap pick 5 for Kennedy. If we got pick 20 as well, that is just a bonus.

I do not like Henderson for reasons I have previously stated.

My understanding of Kennedy is he can take a pack mark, and has been starved of opportunity by a poor Fevola/Fisher/Waite focussed midfield.

Do you reckon he's better than McEvoy...?

And what about the idea of getting WC's first pick instead of 20?

WC get 3, 5 and 20 - lose Judd and 13?
carl get Judd for 3,20 and Kennedy?
Dogs get 13 and Kennedy for 5?

Ive been thinking about it today, and I reckon we should go for Josh Kennedy if the trade comes up with Car/WC and they need our pick 5.

He has been in the system for 2 years, and has played senior footy.
If we go down the track of drafting a young tall, they are probably going to need a season or 2 to come on.
Seeing as he only 20, it looks a lot better than a Damon White / Ken McGregor who are 5 or 6 years older.
Hes tall and already has a decent build.
He was pick #4 a couple of years ago, which means he was highly rated by them. (I dont know if anyone else did)
I reckon hes got a huge upside. Due to Carltons reliance on Fevola they didnt kick to his leads very often.

He could slot straight into the team..

We could either use the pick 20 to draft or on trade it.

yeah but kennedy has a bit of a doogs vibe (he might come good), pick 4-5, criticised by supporters. The fact they are so willing to trade him.

It all suggests to me he isn't worth pick 5.

a caller on OWAAT just suggested Sam Power staright swap for Miller from Melbourne. I'd do it, not sure if they would though.

But he also mentioned Pick 5 + Gia as a swap for Kennedy lol

Says that we haven't offered McMahon a new contract and that he is likely to be moved on.

I thought that Eade said he Jordie wanted to stay and we'd be keeping him?

Someone said player x is being traded, someone said player x is staying. I'll be glad when trade week is over, then at least we'll know for sure. In the meantime lots of speculation. I suppose it's fun for journo's & school kids with computers!

Its almost here now, lets just get it done with.

With all the speculation, I think that we'll only get Hudson as anyone of significance. Maybe lose Power for nothing in particular. McMahon will probably stay. The draft picks will play out straight. Let's just hope they don't do anything stupid this week.

Trade week isn't necessarily the best path to building a championship team - something we should have learnt from past mistakes. I think we have a solid group that could overcome the setbacks of the past season.
