If that's what the bombers wanted I'd say that's a win for us...but I doubt they'd trade a former captain. Are there strong rumours he'll go? Coz although he was dropped last week I'd say he's still seen as needed by Essendon

yeah personally i dont think ess would like that trade but just thought id throw it up. To me hille doesnt seem capt material and i was really shocked when he was named with lloyd out. Rumor was that he was dropped for voicing his disappointment about his game time.

Might be one to look out for.

He's not awesome...but if he went to Bulldogs without doubt he'd be a major tall forward and push for best ruckman. Essendon believe he has great leadership qualities...many benefits if he went. But don't reckon he will.

Ruckman aren't forwards. I can't think of any in the last 10 years that has successful careers doubling as forwards. I'm prepared to be proved wrong but when was the last time a legitimate ruckman kicked more then 40 goals in a season.

hille isnt the one i would be pushing for anyway...wood would be my number one ruckman to go for, but i doubt i would give our first pick for him...that would be the issue with me.

Wood would cost our 1st round pick and would be worth every bit of it.
Hey Doc, long time since I've seen you posting on this board... good to see you back.

Wood's value is definently a first rounder. However, our pick is going to be between 4 and 7 and that's a pretty high pick, I see Wood's value at closer to the 10 - 15 range. I'd prefer to trade a McMahon, Hahn, or Giansiracusa and a second or third round pick in order to secure Wood. Unless Hahn went home, a third club would have to come into play.

I firmly believe we need to pick up an AFL-ready ruckman this year, as well as draft a young one and get him developing in the twos. I would loath us picking up a hack forward or defender, but even PSD'ing a delisted ruckman has to be an option.

Why do you feel Wood is worth a pick in the 4-7 range?

I agree that we need a mobile possession gathering ruckman. Have not watched him enough to know if Wood is this (I just recall his tap ruck work is pretty tidy).

I reckon brisbane would want a youngish (< 24 yo) quality midfielder as Lappin is getting old, and apart from Black their midfield is inexperienced. But I don't think McMahon or Gia would float the Lions boat, and I don't think we will trade Mitch.
I think Brisbane would want a top 15 pick for him, preferably a top 10 pick, if they were to trade for draft picks

I think Adelaide would show more interest and be more prepared to put in a better offer than us for Wood (Plus Wood is an adelaide boy), then we could approach Adelaide to get Maric or Meesen (Both Victorians) for a 2nd or 3rd rounder and cross our fingers it works out.

Trading is difficult nowadays getting the right clubs involved with the right things on offer to get the deals done!

That being said, Carlton and St Kilda will have a ruckman high on their shopping lists too, so the competition will be fierce, and teams will pay over the odds.

No beating around the bush, he is crap.
Our rucks are poor but they beat him more often than not.

Trade with Port Power!

Have Port Adelaide got any players we might be interested in? If so we should pounce this trade period while "our mastermind" Peter Rohde is in charge of their football department!
Hopefully we can snap up a future 200 game player for a slab of light beer and a bag of apples?

I'm guessing Paul Salmon?

Certainly no-one recently.

IMO Hille is more of a forward than a ruckman. Is a very good contested mark and a great kick for goal.

Higgins- Your valuation

After seeing this guy, I really rate him and personally would love to see him in the Crows colours. He is a star, and I know you will say he wont be leaving the Bulldogs anytime soon, but to be realistic what sort of a trade would you accept for him.

I'd say

2 first round draft picks + a decent young player :thumbsu:

p.s Sorry if there have been any threads about this, but I am just interested

Yea, your on on the money. But realistically he's one of those guys where you just know you've found a gem. You can't put a price on these players, specially when you don't know when they are going to peak. I hope i get to watch Higgins every winter(and a few springs ;)) for the next 12 years in the red, white and blue.

Re: Higgins- Your valuation

Good to see hes highly rated among other fans.

But 2 first rounders and a reasonable player? Holy shit! Now im not sure if your trying to get on our boards good side but thats alot to give away for a young player. I still probably wouldnt take it because i get attached to players and dont like to see them go but thats a massive offer and we would be mad not to seriously consider that.

Hopefully he can have another big pre season and build his engine up to have some stints in the midfield and become a part of the rotation.

Well our first round draft pick would be fairly low, and you must remember Adelaide has a very weak forward line. Higgisn would slot very nicely into our team.

He is not totally proven, but id be willing to take a punt on him

Your offer is more than reasonable, but as a poster said above, he's one of those players you can't put a price on. He's the type of talent you'd really want to keep around the club.

The future of The Dogs is Griffen, Cooney, Higgins, Williams & Everitt. I think it's important to keep these players together, especially for a club like ours, who have been success deprived.

Re: Higgins- Your valuation

More than fair offer but Adelaide would never agree to that anyway. And I want to keep Higgins. They said at te time of the draft he would go at 6 and we got him at 11 :D

If we had the opportunity for a Mcmahon-Hille swap I would definetely take it. But I do think Jord will have an impact again next year when he gets his confidence back.

McMahon >> Hille. Not sure the fasination with a player that been around a long time, and never really established himself and is poor in a poor Essendon side.

Something that I've thought of over the last few days. Either

(1) McMahon and/or a 2nd Rd Pick to PORT for Damon White OR

(2) McMahon and/or a 3rd Rd Pick to ADELAIDE for Ken McGregor

Would either be a viable option? I'm considering I've always liked the look of White but he just can't get a game.

Why do people under value McMahon?
At his best he has done more than White or McGregor.

its not about undervaluing McMahon its about list rebalancing. Who else of our light bodied 'outside' players will you trade.

The fact McMahon is talked about as being tradeable is not that he is a poor player, its more a reflection of us seeing him as having trade value.

The exact value is debateable and wouldl be worked out by Eade and co if they decide to shop him. Whether he is worth McGregor or White is debatable. McMahon has only really put a couple of seasons together and has been dropped twice this year. It is concerning that McGregor has been in and out of a side bereft of key forwards... Personally I think McMahon is a better player than White and McGregor but as we have come to rue...size does count, so it will be interesting to see what happens, but I am tipping a light bodied outside player will be shopped heavily.

Why would you trade a guy that was regular and valuable memeber of the 22 until this mid season together with a 2nd round pick all for a guy that doesn't get a regular game at a club aroud our level?

It reeks like the Montgomery/Eagleton trade where we paid too much and lost out big time.

It's all about needs really. Frankly we don't need soft back flankers who can run but have little to their defensive side, and we all know about the gaping hole in the forward line. I think at this stage he's the type of player that could secure player from SA clubs, not just the fact that he's a Glenelg player.

And I think White and McGregor are more realistic recruiting targets should we feel the need for a ready made forward. I'm not saying that drafting a kid is a bad thing for us-far from it. But drafting a kid and building up his strength will take time which is something that we don't really have at this stage.
