List Mgmt. Draft Watch 2015

Tucker sounds like a perfect fit for our list - he could rotate with Smith as an attacking half back/outside mid.

If we go tall I think Weideman would be more likely than McKay as we are really after a big contested marking forward as opposed to another athletic tall who plays small.

I haven't seen Bonner play (I haven't seen any of the under 18's play) but he sounds a lot like Ricky Henderson in that he has all of the attributes that you want in an outside mid/flanker but doesn't dominate like he possibly could. Does that comparison sound about right to you? I hear him described as 191cm, very fast, close to the best kick in the draft and good of both sides of his body and I think "how is he not the number draft pick?"

Henderson is a pretty good comparison. Bonner is a better kick of the Footy.
Henderson probably can play as the 3rd tall which Bonner cant.

They'd be the main differences.

Sloane is a good decision maker which means his poor disposal isnt highlighted as much.
Sloane isnt in the same ball park as Smith Grigg Atkins with ball in hand. His ability to make good decisions helps lessen the issue

I was never saying he is a great kick or one of our best, I was just saying that the people saying he has "poor disposal" or "can't kick for shit" are off base. His kick is good enough, it's not a weapon, but it gets the job done and it certainly isn't considered "poor"

He has alot more class than hendo ....think rookie pick v 1st rounder and that sums it up

He actually plays small for 191cm, if you didn't know you'd think he's 184..... As he physically matures he could go to another level so I see himas massive upside as a guy who is a natural footballer who hasn't grown into his body yet

Haven't seen weidemann unfort .....I'm hoping we go for one of these outside types with good kicking skills so yeah agree tucker first presuming parish (inside / outside mid) is taken then Bonner as next best option
I'm pretty sure it was you that mentioned you see a bit of the NEAFL and it's been mentioned George Hewitt might be up for a shift back to SA due to lack of opportunities at the Swans, understandable given their midfield strength, still not 20 years old and apparently had a knee issue in his first year, and looking at his NEAFL stats as a mid/fwd this year looks like a productive mid that gets forward and hits the scoreboard regularly. I remember he was highly regarded in his draft year as a very good user of the footy going in the second round to the Swans and likely out of contract at seasons end unless the Swans resign him in the interim. Would be a nice pick up if available IMO. Thoughts?

He's a great player, very much an inside mid so wouldn't suit the crows, would prob suit port but they haven't room in salary cap for any trades unless they sacrifice a player on more than $250-300 k

Hewett is hard and tough, clean , good at stoppages ....this year probably better inside but needs to get a bit more outside ball as he is getting battered

V hard to get a game at swans with kennedy and mitchell above him but at another club I reckon he could be a major player ....at least as good as anthony miles

Thommo coming to the end, Jarryd Lyons out of favour with successive coaches, surely with his size he'd be an upgrade on Lyons?

Yeah he's better but we need pace so badly it would be a waste of a pick.....m crouch and CEY has us topped up for that type

I'd go at Mayes, yarran, Aish plus the 2 gws boys Hampton / Wilson first

I would be surprised to see O'Brien upgraded at the end of the year. Unless we think he will be getting regular games next year there is no harm in keeping him on the rookie list for next season and go into the draft with an extra pick as opposed to an extra pick in the rookie draft.

If the sub rule is also scrapped, could mean that ROB may get a ferw more opportunities next year.

Kid from Sturt Jordan Dawson looks good. Taken a couple of really nice grabs on debut today. Half back flank type, left foot kick. Looks like decent skills.

From Robe. Missed most of the U18's I think due to injury.

Yeah I saw him live today and thought he was good , especially in the 3rd quarter .....good size for medium forward/ defender 190cm? .... Would like to see more of his kicking

No. Missed due to incompetent selection. Had him top 20 before the champs. Was concussed in round one of the champs, they gave him two matches off to recover, recalled him for the fourth game which we lost convincingly and played him 47% game time exclusively out of the square. Them dropped him for the last two games. Was disgusting, the kid's a gun.

Interesting that he's playimg off half back in the league side. At ressies level he was playing a second/third forward type role and absolutely dominating. Numerous bags, plenty of 7-8 shot games. More behinds than goals the only concern. Hadn't been playing back at all so to be promoted to play at the other end is strange. But good to see he's got another string to his bow.

He was high half forward and pushing to D50 making it look like he was in defence

Local youngster Will Snelling 29 disposals against the men today, might go cheap due to his size?

Will is a jet, and a great kid too. But he is exactly what we dont need.
We need outside run and carry and elite skills.
2 areas Will doesnt fill. Hes another Crouch Lyons etc etc

Yep agreed. It's strange really cause he finds it outside, tests well for speed (not certain he does on the eye test though) and has high endurance so he could potentially offer it. But just doesn't seem as natural.

Interesting that the mature age KPD Michael Hartley we are reported to be interested in has an invite to the Victorian State Combine Testing, pretty sure the player has to be nominated by multiple clubs to get an invite. Also Tom Keough to the SA Combine, a "mature" ager who someone mentioned the other day on our board.

As I mentioned in the other thread, we might have to go a bit early on Hartley if we are super keen to get him.

where is this talk we're in to hartley coming from?
Been mentioned by Terry Wallace and several others that both Essendon and AFC scouts have been watching his progress in the VFL with Coburg after showing some interest last year also. There's 2 mature age KPD's available this year that are upgrades on Hartigan, Hartley 198cm and former Cat Mitch Brown.

Edit : the fact he has been invited to the Vic combine as mature ager means multiple clubs have requested it.

But not THAT many, otherwise he wouldn't have to be at the State combine, he'd get an invite to the real deal.
