I rate Partington at #4-5. He's an outside midfielder who's improved his inside and clearance game out of sight.

Just out of interest what pick would we need to get hold of to secure Darcy Tucker, he really does address our need for outside speed and elite ball use [and he's a lefty] and another high character youngster like Lever.

Your comparison of Darcy Tucker vs James Aish at draft stage I'd be very interested in too.

I reckon it boils down to

1 - which pick are we trading? At the moment we're sixth, so we get pick 13, assuming there are no priority picks (Carlton, I'm looking at you) and there are no compensation picks that have been activated (and I think there is one, but I don't know what the story is about it)
2 - which pick do we want? Let's say at minimum pick 6. That's 7 picks higher.

So we want a club that finished thirteenth to give us their pick 6 for our pick 13. We have to ask, what incentive can we offer? We can swap 2nd / 3rd round picks ad nauseum but let's stick with a player.

Lyons - I love the guy but inside mids area dime a dozen. I can only see him being worth the trade if (i) they need an inside mid and rate Lyons; (ii) the player they want at 6 is likely to be there at 14 like we did with Lever last year, so Lyons + new guy fits their overall strategy.

Jenkins - Now this gets interesting. The same thoughts apply as with Lyons, but Jenkins is a much rarer player - a tall guy who can kick 40 goals a year. i think it is conceivable that we could swap our first rounders by adding Jenkins to the trade.

Oh, i just realised you said Lynch, not Lyons. Damn.

Lynch - tricky. Mobile third forward who can kick goals. He would fit somewhere between Lyons (no) and Jenkins (yes). He has run himself back into good form and there's always "remember that time he kicked 10 goals?".

I guess the bottom line is it's possible if we can target a club that requires the kind of player we're willing to package.

Finally, let's use a real target. Funnily enough, to get pick 6 we'd have to trade with... Port.

Where are Port lacking? (no, not teeth).

I'm sure they wouldn't mind a ready-made forward, given The Future is about to become The Past, and Schulz isn't getting any younger, and Ryder is proving a flop for the ages in terms of being a forward (perhaps that isn't fair - he's averaging comparably to the rest of his career, it's just that the average goals per game is 0.7). They could then use their #13 pick to fill another hole in their list.

So i would argue that yes it is possible we could upgrade our first round pick by swapping and sweetening with a player who is a commodity, like Jenkins.

Personally I do not think a club would take Jenkins off our hands and allow us an early pick
swap as 6 to 13 is a reasonable stretch

The only compo pick remaining is in GC's hands; they have activated it for 2015, and it's an end of R1 pick.

Lynch definitely would. You wouldn't want to trade him though, he is one of our most important players.

Long Long way to go b4 we get a better feel for the top draft picks ...a KPF is still a high need, but this is a mids draft ....we'll need to trust the recruiting teams assessments

- Reminds me of Tom Boyd a bit. Good set shot, excellent marking forward who leads to the right spots. I think he might bolt during the champs - right now I have him ahead of where I had McCartin and Wright. High forward IQ, reliable by foot and okay field kicking. Screams franchise forward.

- Why? Adelaide have said their plans are KPF or outside class. Schache to me was better than any of the outside options left

Markov was elligible for the Draft last year but had a couple of broken collarbones I think. Didn't get drafted and came back this year as an overager for the U18 Championships. Kicked 5 today vs Vic Metro.

Historically those U18 types have had massive failure rates at AFL ......you have to already be able to win your own ball

Francis was seriously good. I mean seriously.

Not much in the way of forwards and outside line breaking mids though. Milera the closest to impressing but more as a crafty forward than an outside mid.

People here were crying out for us to pick Markov in the rookie draft. Hopefully we don't live to regret passing on him.
