Why isnt Mcinness been more generally rated on the whole as better than say a 15-20 pick rank?

Hes what 193cm, 86kg midfielder that runs 2.78 secs and has no issues with his aerobic capability according to those on here who have watched him. That would usually scream top 3 pick

He fits a big need but isn’t pick 6 a bit of a stretch for Reef? Yeah it needs to be a high pick so pies don’t match but surely you go best available with a pick at 6.
assume it's McInnes, Perkins & Cox

really no difference to us going that order vs. Perkins, Cox, McInnes.
But 6 makes it harder/more expensive for the Pies to match if we want him that much.

not like we miss the 2x best available's taking them 2 picks later.
if it's a toe in the water type test, then maybe 8.

kicking consistency apparently.
we've got guys for that if we get in the bodies needed to get them in space.

Really warming to the idea of him.
If Phillips slips, we could have fixed our inside mid woes in a single off-season (Reef, Phillips, Caldwell)

Maybe it’s the lack of exposed form but this feels like one of the most unpredictable top 10s I can remember.

Plus there’s the high probability that Dodoro calls out a name at 8 that everyone else had at 25 and says “we actually rated him top ten”

I feel like it's mostly because no one really knows who Adelaide will take at pick 1, and who they take is having an impact on who is picked next. Like if they don't take Thilthorpe there's a chance he slides out of the top 5.

You would be suprised at the amount of clubs who take players in the 20s and 30s that are genuinely in that clubs top 10.

Is that rated purely on ability? Or would they be ranked on a combination of need and ability? I can see a club desperate for KPPs not filling the top 10 of their draft list with midfielders even if the KKPs are projected to be less impactful overall.

I'd say all clubs put together their draft rankings based on ability and then chose their pick based off a mixture of that and need.

And conversely, we'd have O'Driscoll much higher on our draft board than most clubs.

is it wrong of me that I want Brand bid to come after our current 44 and for us to take Pheonix Spicer to add to Mosquito in the forward line.

Would rather take Rowe to be fair

According to Matt Balmer

PICK 7: ESSENDON – ARCHIE PERKINS

Clubs:
Sandringham Dragons/Vic Metro

Position: Forward/Midfielder

Size: 188cm/79kg

Bio: Clubs picking Perkins will be thinking potential over output, given the Victorian has only shown glimpses so far of what he is capable. But those glimpses are certainly very impressive, having caught the eye at all levels in recent seasons. He was one of the fastest in the 20m sprint, also testing well in the time trial. Up forward he can play as a flank, but more impressively as a marking target where he can leap high and clunk marks over his opponents. He is a dangerous player who can turn a game quickly and is the perfect forward 50 player. Without the opportunity to play more as a midfielder in 2020, clubs will be basing a possible transition into the midfield on potential, but all the signs so far are that there are multiple teams with top 10 picks looking at him.

In the mix: If Hawthorn doesn’t strike early, Perkins should last to Essendon’s group of selections. He might not have got out on the field, but his buzz and range of skills complements the Bombers attacking half. They would be certain to strike if one of the top prospects slid through.

PICK 8: ESSENDON – ZACH REID

Clubs:
Gippsland Power/Vic Country

Position: Key Defender

Size: 202cm/83kg

Bio: Behind Grainger-Barras, Reid looms as one of the next best tall defenders for teams in the first round. Reid’s two key traits – his classy kick and strong marking ability – make him a real option for clubs inside the top 10. He loves to intercept and judges the flight of the ball well close to goal. He can be a crucial cog in a team looking to rebound the ball at pace, hitting up targets with good vision ahead of him. He still has more developing to do in terms of his body size and was one of the few Victorians to play local footy before COVID-19 ended any chance of a carnival. Given his height, Reid has also been trialled as a forward and a ruck, but a key back looms as his role at the next level.

In the mix: A tall definitely seems to be on the cards for Essendon with Reid and Nik Cox likely to be discussed.

PICK 9: ESSENDON – NIK COX

Clubs:
Northern Knights/Vic Metro

Position: Key Defender

Size: 200cm/87kg

Bio: Cox is a fascinating draft prospect who could well be one of the breakout players in future years. At 200cm, there isn’t much the Victorian can do, playing as a tall at either end and as a wingman. He smashed the 2km time trial (6:03) and scored well in the 20m sprint, making him one of the better all-round draft prospects. A spot as a centre-half back in the future seems likely with the tall able to intercept well and boot it off both feet. Cox might have some suitors in the top 10.

In the mix: Essendon’s last pick is a bit murky. Will they go another tall in Cox? Or is another midfielder at the top of Adrian Dodoro’s list. They have been linked to Tanner Bruhn and Sydney Swans academy prospect Braeden Campbell, while the club has spoken openly about potentially shifting the selection. Don’t rule out Finlay Macrae here or could Dodoro take Conor Stone?

Twoomey

  • Essendon put a fair bit of work in Reef as well as the Crows. Expect a bid maybe 8/9 or he might slide and unlikely to match if a bid comes early
  • Unlikely for Essendon to trade out 6 7 8 most likely hold 3 picks into the draft
  • Bombers/Hawthorn have looked at Perkins if he gets through North want him at 11
  • Macrae 10-15 could get to Richmond at 17
  • Crows looking at a midfielder at 9 if they go Thilly/McDonald
  • Hawks spending a lot of time on Phillips depends a chance someone falls out GC will take him if he gets to 5
  • DGB linked strongly to Swans and Roos likely Holland
  • Most likely Thilly is gone by GC at 5 said with a wry Smile
So looking at that

1. McDonald
2. Ugle Hagen
3. Holland
4. DGB
5. Phillips/Thilly
6. Phillips/Thilly
7. Perkins
8. Bid on Reef if we want him
9. Cox/Reid

Was Cox 81 kegs earlier in the year now 87? He looks to be filling out

Interesting the 6 midfielders that could be at the club the dons released on their website was Hollands, Phillips, Perkins, B.Campbell, Bruhn, Macrae

Not sure anything in that or not. Doubt there is but Bruhn and Macrae seem to be the popular names for the last pick

And as M.Balmer says who has some contacts at the club dont rule out C.Stone

Think that may be based on Cal Twomey's rankings so they only take the top 6 at each position based on that.

Phillips moved out of the fab 5

Yuck. Hes small and looks a poor kick. Im sure Worpel was every bit as good as what ive seen in him. I know he will have immediate impact but not always the best thing.

Size, Speed, Skill i feel if your lacking in 2 of those areas you dont cut it too often

If we were to bid early on R.Mcinnes

Would the pies consider bidding on Brand at 16 (Which is likely around 20-22) when the time arrives?

Especially if all the other key talls are gone ie Cox, Reid, Chapman

I very much doubt it. There are plenty of decent players still available at that pick. We wouldn’t be matching at that pick I’d say

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I think you have missed the board by a long way here.
