Curious to hear why anyone would be unhappy with that haul.

Well **** me that was a long draft. Imagine if they didn't cut list sizes and it went for another 30 picks lol.

In a perfect world I'd have liked another mid but based on what I've seen/read, very happy.

Do you think Richmond would have matched rioli jnr at 40ish? And is that the only reason they bid on Eyre so we couldn't take Rioli as they wanted someone else first.

I assume that was the case but I'm not great with the draft

Some people thought the midfield was the more pressing need and we could cobble together a functional forward line from delisted free agents or something

I wonder if some of those guys had some character issues that weren’t apparent to the guys who don’t get to actually interview players
Maher was going to be skip surely not
Trew had issues
Baldwin double acl
Callow no clue

Because the mechanism is in place so clubs can pull up stumps, not pull up stumps then decide to jump back in if and when it suits them
Clubs pass on a pick. Not the draft.

We'd have still had to pass on our subsequent picks wouldn't we?

Just on this. A lot of the under agers would have played outside the centre square in there under age years and then going into 2020 would be more midfield centric. The (midfield) guys good enough interstate played senior football but never dominated as one would expect and the chance all midfield kids had to show there wares (championships) was not on so we simply went and stockpiled the better key position players with the ‘Bolter’ in Perkins breaking it all up.

I don’t mind it. I’d like one of Maher or Trew if we are to list someone as a SPL before round 1 though.

Quite possibly. We still have a spot open as well as having Mozzie potentially on the inactive list. Though I suspect Baldwin is for the 2x ACL.

So we have a list spot open plus i think we can put Mozzie on the LTI after the draft and get a 2nd rookie spot.

I imagine we use one this offseason and one at the MSD next year once we seem some 19yo's dominating in the NAB league?

I was under the impression that you got all your business done (including rookie upgrades, back when they were a thing) then passing meant you were out and all your subsequent picks were also passed. Clearly not so with NGA such a big thing now.

Not a huge deal, I just think it’s a little weird and convoluted.

Anyhoo, does anyone know whether we can take a PSD pick tomorrow if we want, wouldn’t mind a look at Trew.

Anyone here have any thoughts on the effect having a year off footy will have on the development of the Vic kids?

Is this something that could permanently hinder them or is it something they’ll catch up on quick enough? I figure it might not be directly comparable to a listed player missing a year through injury because the kids might do a lot of their growth and development in their final year of junior footy.

If he's not at least 196cm tall I am not interested.

We can, or in the rookie draft as well

Wouldve liked another small

Rather throw 2 darts at a Dusty,Degoey,Bont,Petracca,B.Smith,Rozee type than just 1

But looking at it maybe they simply wernt there. I think Bruhn was the one we were taking if not for going 2 talls

Its hard to see how all the talls fit in i dont see how they can i think were playing a cox/reid as the new 200cm HBF role that we have invented over night

Let see how it works

I dont like investing heaviliy into defenders early i think you can find guys much later to do those roles. Id use early picks on match winners that are centre/forward

Maybe Cox can fill out and surprise like a Naughton as a KPF

I'm very happy with the haul and I like that we took 2 talls and one medium utility type. Remembering we also picked up Caldwell and honestly we have plenty of good midfielders we just don't have a lot of elite ones. Next year is probably a great chance to add an elite mid with our first pick. In my mind this year and next is going to be a mini 2 year rebuild. Its not about addressing every possible need in this one singular draft.

Not to mention not every draft is deep with talls, a lot of them are very midfielder centric. Next draft we can focus on an elite midfielder, then some smaller defenders and possibly forwards. Meanwhile by then we'll probably retire about 2 key backs (Hooker and Ambrose most likely) and we'll be thankful we have some guys ready to step up and become our future spine.

They were still able to train, I would suggest its going to be match sharpness awareness
