Wouldve liked another small

Rather throw 2 darts at a Dusty,Degoey,Bont,Petracca,B.Smith,Rozee type than just 1

But looking at it maybe they simply wernt there. I think Bruhn was the one we were taking if not for going 2 talls

Its hard to see how all the talls fit in i dont see how they can i think were playing a cox/reid as the new 200cm HBF role that we have invented over night

Let see how it works

I dont like investing heaviliy into defenders early i think you can find guys much later to do those roles. Id use early picks on match winners that are centre/forward

Maybe Cox can fill out and surprise like a Naughton as a KPF
grab Bruhn in 2022. kid really didn't look happy going up there
Possibly the prospect of 3-4 games a year for the next 24 months.

Im surprised with Bruhn he was clearly willing to leave the state. Sydney, Freo, GWS, Crows all heavily linked to him and barracks for the eagles. So hed clearly made clubs aware be was happy to move whereas Perkins was only linked to Hawks, Dons, Roos and Pies (Clearly not keen to move)

I must admit would be tough going to GWS and getting a midfield gig with Hopper, Deboer, Taranto, Cogs, Tom Green on the inside. Josh Kelly on the outside spots are very limited

He looked like he was trying to hold back tears of disappointment though

I kind of agree with you. I thought the safer bet was to go for 2 mids and a tall but we have lost Joey, McKernan and Bellcho and have Hooker and Hurley near the end especially Hooker. The real problem is just how many talls we need to try and develop given McBride and Bryan also. Anyone else I am missing? But, it was a draft for good talls and they take longer to develop. The midfield is still decent enough albeit maybe not balanced. Can really build around Draper, McGrath, Ridley, Parish, Langford, Caldwell and maybe Francis plus the new guys. And hope the likes of Guelfi, Cahill, Mozzie and Ham develop plus have many good years to come out of Stringer, Walla and a couple of others. An early pick next year, plus another if Merrett leaves can then really set us up down the track. This is a much better framework than we have had for some time. Plus should have cap space to throw $$$$ at FAs as others move on eg Hooker, Hepp, Zaharakis, Hurls (in a couple of years). May not be a great next year or 2 but well placed if we can develop these guys (big if for us).

So, three top 10 picks and no mid?
Perkins will be a mid! You build a premiership team around a solid spine.

Brand
Reid
Perkins
Eyre
Jones

Place the bells and whistles around that group and build for the future. A 183cm Bruhn wouldn't have addressed a massive need imo.

Heppell 28 Shiel 27 Merrett 24 Langford 24 Parish 23 McGrath 22 Caldwell 20 Perkins 18

We're good for mids!

When he hugged his dad he looked like he was about to cry

I don't mind it. A couple of years to see how sus his knees really are and for GWS to build him beyond 25kg, then we can swoop.

Can see Geelong pouncing in two years especially with Danger and Selwood done

If theyre all staying and fit playing footy each week then it seems okay but there really isnt much to come into that group if injury or a player leaves and that wont be the case for a few years now unless we manage to trade another in

I just think our list demographic is out of whack

God knows who our 2nd side midfield will be?

Usualky you have 3 wingers, 4 onballers and a high Half fwd who is a mid (Caldwell, Parish or Shiel)

I think by grabbing another small it also gives us more options with finding a HBF through a Heppell or Zerrett or even Mcgrath if things became worse case. We dont have that option with this list IMO

Can someone fill me in?

We passed, and didn't select Brand, but reading this seems to suggest we got him.

And something about screwing the dogs over in it?
Essentially if you pass you can still match a bid on a player.

So from the 43 list the 'midfielders' we have are

Z.Merrett
Shiel
Heppell
Mcgrath
Caldwell
Parish
Langford
Perkins?

D.Clarke (No good)
Ham (Questionable being so small and not super quick)
Snelling, Hird and Cutler are (outside) midfielders with question marks too

Watching our mid-field, I think our problem hasn't been an inability to get the ball but the lack of functioning forward line which has meant that instead of driivng the ball forward our mids play pass the ball around which looks messy and often leads to turnovers because the mids have a terrible habit of handball at players either out of position or in a way that disadvantages the target.

Was he bid on by someone else?

Dons Passed on selecting any player at pick 51
Dogs bid at pick 53
Dons then matched the bid

I like many thought once you had passed that was it but that doesn't seem to be the case.

We passed because were looking to take 1/2 spots open for either SPP or have spots ipen for players during next year which allows us to actually see players play/train ect which is smart and seemed a constant move by many clubs

Dogs however kept plenty honest in us and fremantle with bids

Sam Power seems a very smart operator

I feel like a bit came back to bite Dodoro today and him trying to get Rioli from the tigers with them bidding on Eyre during round 2 just before our bid and the dogs maybe due to some Dunkley negotiations that didnt occur....but maybe im drawing a long bow

But people can play your game especially once its been worked out and you dont hsve any more bullets in the cap to fire

You can choose to pass on a single pick or the whole lot of them. We did the former with Pick 51 since we wanted to still match Brand later on.

Other than Maher and Trew, is there anyone else people would like us to take in the rookie draft tomorrow?
