I suppose my thinking is more around not having 3 picks inside 8. If we do then we can reach for a tall to change up drafting 3 similar types
Reading the phantoms around and no real high end (certain) talls seem to be around those picks. Id be ok with going for 3 (non KPP) types, be it inside midfielder/utility/runner.

Just not a fan of not picking what you think is the best inside the top 10 unless it is very marginal.
I actually do not think most good sides do it. I know when I was involved the top 10 was always best available player and then work the rest from there be that via next round or trades or FA.
I think the best example of it is GWS. They clearly have a policy of best available, which tends to end up being the mid sized midfielders, which results in limited opportunities for them to play (with those picks then asking to be traded for more opportunity) whilst leaving gaping holes in their list elsewhere.

GWS have drafted a fair range of players. Not sure anyone compares with them due to the number of first round picks they have had.

In the last 3-4 years they've had extra picks but not so many that makes them irrelevant.

They've drafted Bonar, Caldwell, Hately, O'Halloran, Ash and Green in the last few years. 3/6 have gone/are going in part to not getting the opportunity due in part to most being similar players as well as being players where GWS have an excess.

Phillips at 6, from what I’ve seen he’s a genuine nose to the grindstone ball rat that plays with his head on a swivel. Better version of Serong with a low centre of gravity.
Poulter at 7, rangy athlete, can drill the footy, looks to have a frame that will seriously fill out.

I’m not sure we retain 8 and at the very least it is likely to shift back a little. I’d bid on Jones if it hasn’t already been done, I’d look very closely at O’Driscoll who I think could be an amazing small defender and Bruhn if still there might be too good to pass on.

I’ve got a sneaking feeling Brand will be bid on between 25 and 35, not sure where that’s coming from but we will clearly match so not really an issue anyway.

Pretty exciting times to be honest. Worst case scenario in the next 24 hours is a stack of draft ammo

Zach Package

I got a feeling a bid from Hawthorn could come at 24 as a fu** you for Mozzie

Could well be, I think we’re getting a good one so not really fussed, suspect if he had the chance he’d be looked at as very high floor but potentially low ceiling and someone that could have snuck into the teens.

Eyre, who the hell knows, eager to find out though

Eyre is great grew like anything this year didn't loose his athleticism

Could set us up

I am pretty sure that if it came to it and we went into deficit to match academy bids the deficit would be taken off our own pick next year in the same round of the draft. If we don’t have our own draft pick in the same round... 🤷‍♀️

So we may well lose next year’s second/third rounders to bid matching if we still have them and don’t have picks this year.

If the bid is after 54 it won’t cost us any more than our next pick.

If we take 6, 7 & 8 to the draft and looking at the u/25s.

Redman ??? Francis
Ridley ??? ???
Merrett ??? Langford
Parish ??? ???
Jones Wright ???
Draper McGrath Caldwell

Forgetting the bench.

Eyre & Brand into CHB and CHF spots.
Where do we focus this year with the 3 picks? Feeling sliding 8 back to add 4x top 20 makes a lot of sense.

BZT at FB too. I wouldn't mind us to trade one pick for 16 and pies future and another for 13 and 20 (use 20 on Caldwell). That leaves us with pick 6, 13 and 16 this year and 2 futures next year without the Dunkley trade.

If that were the case I'd like one of the picks to be Cox, I'd play him as a back flank/wing role and use his long and accurate (from what I can tell from the highlights) kicking to be our launching point from half back. He also seems to read the ball well in the air and can take an intercept mark. The other picks are probably really going to come down to who's available. Maybe O'Driscoll if we miss out on Dunkley.

im not on the BZT bandwagon yet. jury is out for me.

Jury is still out for me too and not sure he'll be a star regardless but I think he can be serviceable, probably best suited to the second tall forward. But I guess when you look around the league very few teams have that star full back and there's probably even fewer younger ones that you can really look at and say they'll have a bright future.

the good ones have the combination of a good system and a gun key back.

Bris w/Andrews
Port w/Jonas
Rich w/Grimes
Geel w/Blicavs
WCE w/Gov

Keen on Reid for this reason.
