That's never stopped them before
and that’s why they are in the hole they are in. Terrible draft strategy and always burning picks to move up. If they were smart this year they’d take all 4 1st rounders to the drafts there’s heaps of talent in the 10-30 range that could easily be better than some of the top 10 players. But what they trade most of them just to try and get a top 5 pickz

If i was them I'd do the opposite. Every year they are taking multiple first round picks in the draft. 2 years in none are able to get enough games so they bail looking for gametime. They should be looking to package them all and get as high up the draft as possible. surely they could get to 1 with a combination of their picks, that way they only need to find room for 1 player in their team, which is much more doable than finding room for 4.

just a thought

They need more depth at more positions, if they hadve drafted better in the past their list build would be in a much stronger position. Inside of just continually drafting midfielders. They get multiple picks sometimes because of their academy, this draft is different as a lot of kids haven’t played and many kids that could go later could actually be better than ones that go early. So I believe there will be plenty of gems later on, why wouldn’t you want 4 picks. Imagine getting say Cox, Henry, Cook and Laurie would add so much to their list. The reason kids don’t get games and leave is because they are all fighting for the same spots, while they have gaping holes in their forward and back lines. Say if they drafted Butters instead of Caldwell and Clark instead of Hately, both boys would’ve played every week and made the giants and much better and even side.

I agree, but in two years time when they might have only played a couple of games each then they carousel happens again, 2 or 3 of the four want to leave and all they get is a Caldwell situation where they only get 2nd rounders back. Geelong will have a huge age problem and will be after Henry, SA teams be hunting after Cook.

I also think a lot of the bolters from this years draft wont get drafted. Will play NAB league next year and then in the 3 mini drafts they will be nabbed. We will have a great opportunity I believe to nab some of these 19 yr olds that miss due to the likely hood of us being nearer the bottom than the top

Yeah but they have a lot of spots up for grabs so they kids will get games and that will lower the chances that they will leave. You don’t think if they package 3-4 picks up to get Mcdonald/DGB/ Thilthorpe that clubs from the those states will be all over those kids, it’s the same thing.... if anything there is more chance that those kids go home over Victorian kids.

Not bolters that didn’t show anything last year, rather kids who were rated just haven’t got a chance to blossom with more time in their preferred positions this year so they’ve fallen back a tad in the rankings but they’ll still get picked up.

We'll have to agree to disgree, I understand your point though. I think they will be more hunting for delisted free agents as depth rather than kids. they will think they are still in the window, this year I feel was an anomaly and not the new standard for them. I've just read they are after Shane Savage if he gets delisted from the saints

We should send a **** you very much to a couple of clubs.. trade 7&8 for Pick 2, bid on JUH, Braeden Campbell and then take McDonald when they're matched, wiping out Dogs and Swans early pick. Then bid on Lachie Jones with Pick 6 and take Bruhn or Olly Henry..

I hear were genuinely keen on Lachie Jones. Port only have enough points at the moment to match bids after pick 10 I think.
Would he actually be a good pickup? He seems like someone who could lot into our round one side, but doesn't really have as much scope for improvement as other players around that mark.

That isn't even close to being true. They have points for a pick 5 bid with some to spare.

Port will be matching any bid

"Port Adelaide is also a fascinating case as it’s been talking about Lachlan Jones (NGA) and Taj Schofield (father-son) like they’re already in the door. Ideally for the Power, Schofield slips through to the rookie draft, allowing all of their national draft focus to be on Jones.\

The Power, who hold Picks 35, 47, 57, 59 and 73, will be hoping a bid on Jones comes at Pick 10 or later to avoid going into draft debt. The issue is the pick-loaded Essendon is keen on him and could use one of those three selections to bid on him, while Adelaide (Pick 9) is renowned for bidding on academy/father-son prospects.

Still, even if Port does have to go into debt, Jones is a near certainty to end up at Alberton in 2021."

That's without factoring in a likely bid at pick 2 or 3 for Jamarra Ugle-Hagan which will move 35 to 34, 47 to 44, 57 to 54, 59 to 56 and 73 to 70. Which adds another 170 points, and then there's a likely bid on Campbell before him as well, which will probably bring in approximately another 100 points.

Do you go;
Reid over Cox
Reid & Cox
And if it's both, Perkins or O'Driscoll?

This is about the only conundrum i have with my draft wish list.
Think Cox will definitely be ready to go earlier than Reid (body more physically ready) but either would be great. Really would bloody love Perkins. Looks like he loves the contest and has some serious X factor about him which we definitely lack. Maybe if we make the trade with the pies for 16 and the future 1st we can have both.

yeah. i've spent some nights watching highlights, reading reviews, etc.
This kid looks like the best that will be available at our picks, and he adds something we sorely need in terms of game impact.

Feels like that Dusty/Danger type role where they're strong in the middle but also effective upforward.
Classic pick for us (the hybrid mid), but one suited to it.

Has a bit of the Rozee's about him.
