Sounds like it’s designed to eliminate the Qaynor type bullshit but will make it easier for clubs to automatically list later round selections.

Probably not the worst idea in the world.

Yep especially when other clubs don't like bidding

Will this include the davey brothers?
This is for NGA, not father son

I think in principle it is a great idea however i can only imagine the howls of despair from Eddie and other non NSW/QLD clubs if it doesnt apply to the northern academies.

For what its worth, i would allow Northen Academy teams to match bids in the first round if there are strict provisos
1. Club must match 100% of the points, no 20% discount.
2. Players must be a registered part of their academy for at least 4 years (i.e all of u16s and under 18s) to be eligible to be matched. This preserves the Heeneys/Bowes/Mills/Hipwoods/Budaricks who were in the academies from 12 years old and would have played other sports if not for them. Also stops the Blakey scenario who was only in the Sydney academy for 2.5 years

Good points.
It will also be 20 years before GC & GWS can have father-sons so they definitely need access to academies.

I wonder what impact changes to list sizes are going to have on drafting. I can't imagine it would make a huge amount of sense to delist a known quantity just so you can draft a victorian kid who has hardly played in a year.

This game is on the 7AFL+ app

Might catch this when I get a chance sometime this week

Perth play again in the 7 game this week, McDonald will go up against Denver Grainger-Barras. Zane Trew might get a debut hopefully

As things stand we have 558 points after our first. The point of no deficit if we had back to back bids on Brand and Eyre is 37 and 38, but I'm expecting to lose the points of pick 72 from compensation to Crouch, Williams, Daniher and maybe Atkins and Isaac Smith.

Hopefully Geelong and West Coast don't do so well to rob us of their picks. Gold Coast too.

Its incredible that the variation in assessments of some players between draft watcher are as large as they are at this time of year.

Not playing junior footy in Victoria and a lack of it elsewhere has really thrown this years draft in the air.
I think there will be some kids that are more easily hidden by clubs this year as well. Be interesting to see how it lands.

Yup. I think of guys like Eyre for us who might have had big top age years who have now been put under wraps.

I imagine that mock drafts are going to be totally useless until about november as no one has an accurate idea of how to judge victorian players at the moment, which is normally at least half of the draft pool.
