I'm facebook friends with eDPS and we were discussing this yesterday in messenger, he reckons Eyre will still be bid on 40+

Ohhh, is that whom you politely tagged in my comment yesty?

Lots of work to be done but 4 first round picks is possible given we’d just match a bid on Brand and ‘buy in’ to the first round to match, critical nexus for us.

Picks 6, 7 and 8.

What are the chances we walk away with a trio of:

Will Phillips
DGB
Riley Thilthorpe

?

In the realm of zero. Highly unlikely any make it to 6. Maybe an early Campbell bid throws things out.

I think that with so many reasoably sized midfielders/utilities outside the first 15, we could afford to go for Will Phillips (sorry eth-dog) and Denver Grainger Barrass with two of (hopefully) these three picks we acquire.

Would be utterly brilliant if we could send two and move up to get Logan McDonald. Would be a perfect fit for us and with Eyre coming in, would give us a spine to look forward to for the next few years.

Apparently Sydney are keen on DGB, Thilly won't get past Adelaide, Phillips linked to Hawthorn

If we are smart we split our first rounders 6 7 8 could be split with Geelong/GWS so we can grab players like Driscoll, Cox, Reid, Cook, Carroll, Trew, Neale, Poulter

Ideal for me if we don't split

6 Cox
7 Reid
8 Midfielder

Set up the spine this year

eDPS foj1 what does Denver Grainge - Barrass offer that Brand doesn't?

DGB is obviously a more exposed player and seems to have a better interecept/offensive game than our Cody. If we manage to get 6, , & 8, I would hope that DGB slips to our picks,

My absolute dream scenario is;

6. Riley Thilthorpe
7. Denver Grainge - Barrass
8. Will Phillips

Obviously won't play out like this but one can dream :p

Flip our Fantasia pick (hopeully circa pick 26 from Port) into Caldwell and we could do a Port and boune back quicker than we thought in 24 months.

Brand will likely be a slightly better stopper but DGB is better than him in every other area. Wouldn’t surprise me to see us play him as a forward or mid either, personally I’d try to develop him as an inside mid long term.

I have said this before, but its a no from me on Thilthorpe who had groin issues to start and end the year.

The PTSD associated with using a high pick on a 200cm forward/ruck with groin issues is too much at the moment thanks.

All this talk about setting up the spine, where do we honestly see Bryan and Crauford going forward? Key back and Fwd providing ruck relief for Draper on the occasion, or strictly ruck depth waiting for opportunity in the reserves? Not sure what 2MP could provide that these guys can’t?

If we want to improve our kicking, we could go:

Bruhn
Perkins
Cox (value relative to alternative CHB)

I really like Reid as a KPD, his kicking for a guy who is 202cm is ridiculous. He and Brand can be our defensive spine for a decade.

Perkins is the explosive x-factor we need forward of centre with Raz gone and Mozzie out. I really like him and tbere is a bit of Connor Rozee about him from his highlights.

O'Driscoll is a slight reach, and if we can trade back i to the teens with Geelong might preferential but seeing this pick is likely to be 11 anyway, doesnt matter.
Big, tough, competitive, aggressive and understated athleticism. Can play off half back/wing next year before moving into the midfield after he fills out.

From what I saw last year Reid is like fletcher with his kicking

I thought the only benefit of getting Caldwell is that we wouldn't be discussing Phillips anymore.

What style of player is McDonald?

Reading between the lines it seems to me he's in the Lukosious mould of big flanker than he is a high marking player like Wiedemann (to take 2 guys of a similar size and shape).

Luksious went at pick 2 of what is almost certainly going to be the best draft of all time because he was supposed to be a key forward.

What is it being suggested we would dilute a few excellent picks for?

McDonald is a bit like a mix of Nick Riewoldt and Tom Hawkins. Which one he becomes closer to will depend on how he is managed with his size and strength.

In the end, you would be hoping you are getting at least a Jack Gunston style "key position forward". Someone capable of kicking 50 goals a year.

I’d like to order a Tom Hawkins with the work rate and endurance of Nick Reiwoldt please.

What seperates McDonald and Thilthorpe then? That is probably the more important question.

Would people be ok if we traded up into the top 3 to get Hollands? Exactly the type of player we need.

McDonald is more a pure forward type, Thilthorpe will swap forward and ruck a lot in his career I reckon. Also feel McDonald moves that bit better and is more likely to take more marks up the ground and use strong body work closer to goal. Thilthorpe will rely more on his reach
