Will, Tom or Andrew?
Will is a possible Gold Coast draftee if they don't move up the order. It's notguaranteed yet but they like him

Thankfully for us your wish is unlikely to come true
He will be a gun. It doesn't bother me that he's only 180cm, he's a ball winner and tough. If he does go to GCS it will be awesome to see him and Rowell together.

He could be a really good player. He just isn't the right player for us.

If he's available we will take him. The thread is right though, he will be gone so I'll move on. One thing is for sure, there is plenty of talent up the top end and we are getting at least one. Whoever it is, I'll back 100%

Dont see the need to take a risk on a tall rangy unproven type at 6-8 range. Id go fsirly safe with guys who have runs on the board.

Any of Perkins, Bruhn, Cook for me at that range all could play flanks/wing early and hooefully develop into something more.

O'Driscoll wont go that early he will likely still be around at pick 20 if we get something off the cats/lions which is certainly an option.

This is where id probably take one of those talls if available eg Cox.

I dont think we need KPD, we will get Brand, Eyre capable there aswell, probably starts his career back. If Reids somehow available after 15 then grab him.

Hurley 3 years
Ambrose 3 years
Francis 8 years
BZT 8 Years
Bryan 10+
Brand 10+
Eyre 10+
Ridley 10+ (as a capable 3rd as he fills out)

And we even still have Hooker but i dont think hes red and black next year.

Not many teams have 2 huge hulking fwds anymore.

2nd talls:
D.Fogarty
Hipwood/Mcstay
C.Curnow
Mihocek
R.Lobb
J.Cameron
Gunston
Riccardi/Finlayson
L.Mcdonald
J.Bruce
Darling
S.Reid/Blakey
S.Day
Weideman
J.Riewoldt
Membrey
T.Marshall

Im also pretty confident that Francis can play on any of them very comfortabley and not be out sized if we were to cop an injury to Ambrose or Hurley and choose not to play BZT

To the draft watchers out there....thoughts on Nick Cox?

Just watched his highlights and super impressive - his kicking looks elite and moves really well for 199cm.

Body is obviously an issue.....any other knocks on him?

Super talent; I rate him really highly. No really knocks on him other than he needs to adds size, which he will, his dad was filled out when he played vfl. He’s one who could’ve gone top 5 if he played this year. Could be a steal. He has the tools to be the best wingman in the game.

Mainly is very raw and needs to fill out to me we have to pick him or Reid

Not ideally the player we are looking for but he is a seriously good prospect and you play with fire not taking best available early in the draft.

Like we've tried going best available early in the draft previously and that's partly what's gotten us into this hole.

Actually it really has not. Stuff like picking Morgan and Redman (both flankers) with consecutive picks has.

Best available early has given us an unbalanced midfield because all the best available inside mids were small. Morgan was absolutely a fail.

Very often the best available are good midfielders with no skills/qualities that sets them out from the pack. Picking them is the safest option but to really improve on your list you need to back yourself in to identify the difference makers in a draft.

If we needed a midfielder like this in the future they're easier to trade in. One of the best is available for a first round pick with salary part paid and there are still no takers.

Going and reaching at 6/7/8 is ok with me, just ensure you get two quality kids with the other two picks.

Im actually really starting to like Tanner Bruhn, many people more educated than I seem to rate him as the best of the next group. Perhaps going him with Perkins and then possibly reaching for O'Driscoll at 8 would set us up fairly well.

Perhaps we end spliting pick 8 for two of Geelong's (nee GWS') selections and off loading one for Jye and then taking O'Driscoll with the actual draft selection.

Would give us

pick 6 - Tanner Bruhn
Pick 7 - Archie Perkins
Pick 13 - Nathan O'Driscoll
(Pick 20 - Jye Caldwell)

The Geelong Falcons midfielder burst onto the scene as Vic Country’s Under 16 MVP in 2018, but injuries have cruelled him since; having initially required knee surgery after a 2019 preseason incident, and undergone a follow-up procedure that would have had him in doubt to feature early this year.

Thats what worries me injuries for years last two seasons

Yeah ok, I didn't know about that. Red alarm bells. In saying that, with 3 early picks, can we afford to take a risk with one of the three picks we have?

I would rather risk someone that has buckets of potential and a little raw.

Players like Cox, Perkins, Poulter, Macrae or Carroll

Plus he's a 6 foot tall midfielder which along with Caldwell we have a heap of

So we should have picked the best available dud ?
Parish v ?
McGrath v Taranto.
I think you can expand on that. It is not only picking the best available. It is the fact we have waited until late in the draft to pick guys that actually play midfield and not looked at picking midfielders with second or third round picks.

I just think there should be a tweak into "best for our needs". I think the more successful teams all do this when they were down the bottom.

And yep, I would agree.

Just not a fan of not picking what you think is the best inside the top 10 unless it is very marginal.
I actually do not think most good sides do it. I know when I was involved the top 10 was always best available player and then work the rest from there be that via next round or trades or FA.

I suppose my thinking is more around not having 3 picks inside 8. If we do then we can reach for a tall to change up drafting 3 similar types
