eDPS Given Bruhn's injuries and still featuring so high on most boards, I'm guessing he was projecting as a pick one candidate at the end of 2018?
Not quite pick 1 but certainly a top 3 chance. His injury history hasn’t hurt him as much as others as he has been able to keep himself fit and is in the same boat as a lot of other kids this year. Unless he got a very bad injury this year he was always going to be in the top 10 mix.

He has had so much less exposure than others this year as well, hasn't he? So must have been projecting well to still be rated so highly. Very light though compared with his peers... are we talking Ham-light?

I remember getting roasted by somebody on Twitter for not having him top 20 at the time haha and to be fair I also had Zane Trew at 8 which is looking just as off the mark.

Edwards didn’t have a point of difference or anything he’s really good at that will allow him to excel at afl level and I always thought he’d plateau this year as more kids blossomed. Trew I was more bullish on and I was excited to see how he went during champs. I still think trew will be a 150 game player where ever he ends up.

I have noticed that a great deal hasn’t changed for my rankings, only 5 players have come out of my March top 20 rankings and it’s not like they are far from it either

Zane Trew
Sam Berry
Bailey Laurie
Brandon Walker
Finlay Macrae

Yeah only 4 have changed out of mine, really only 3 because Baldwin would still be in there if he didnt re injure his knee.

I think there has been a lot floating around about Edwards that has been drip fed by his management.

Stories on the AFL site like this helped push the momentum.

Thought he was pretty good for SA last year but If his name was not Edwards I would have been looking at him as more of a middle of the draft pick.
Like you say he had no actual outstanding area. In saying that it is not always a bad thing. There have been a lot of kids like him who play okay and end up getting drafted and are handy enough players.
Have not seen any of his games this year although I do know he was playing SANFL reserves.
Would be fair to say not being overly quick may hinder him.

I'd like to see us go
6. Perkins
7. Cox
8. (Or 14.) Macrae
I think if we go Perkins, I'd like O'Driscoll as well. And if we go McDonald, I'd like O'Driscoll.

Not sure how likely the Perkins, Cox O'Driscoll trifecta is, but I would not be unhappy with that either.

Would be utter negligence to trade 2 x top 10 picks for an 18yo tall from WA unless another first round coming back.

put it this way. In 2 years time if he ticked all the boxes, we wouldn’t get 2 x top ten picks in a trade back to w coast or freo.
So if the club identified lance franklin as a generational player in his draft year it would have been a mistake to offer two first round picks?
what bollocks. You have to treat each player on their merits. I would give up 7 and 8 for norths pick 2 and perhaps future second rounder for JaMarra, MacDonald or hollands in a heartbeat

I view it as an exercise in risk management. Given NOD, physical profile I reckon he’s pretty low risk and has quite a high floor as a Maynard or Curnow style bash and crash player.

Those lighter frame player tend to be higher risk so you’d want to pair that with something a little safer. Phillips is the ideal because you’re basically getting a lock in for 200 games in my eyes.

Mcdonald isn’t a generational player
hollands is IMO but he’s done a knee
Jury is out on jamarra until he’s improved his kicking

There is safety in numbers with multiple picks. The chances of finding multiple serviceable players is very high with the picks we have.

We should be trying to maximise our chances of landing an AA level 200 game player.

Finding a gun is more beneficial than finding a dud is harmful.

good for u. I wouldnt. There’s not many established A graders that generate 2 x top tens in a trade.

and for every buddy there’s 20 Mitch Thorpe’s.

you have to back yourself in when evaluating key forward talent.
two first round draft picks means less in a star barren draft and your picks are unlikely to nab a really good tall without even greater risk. I am not sure you would have taken a punt on Matthew Lloyd.
if 6,7 and 8 would get you Ben king Bailey smith and one more good player fine and dandy
but we are talking about tanner bruhn who is really unproven, Archie Perkins who has star potential but played limited nab football and Nik cox who again potential high absolutely unproven even at nab level. In comparison as an 18 year old logan made wafl team of the year. Seriously you either don’t watch a lot of junior football or you are negative by nature.
‘I would take mcdonald and say bruhn over 3 players every single day of the week as would a large majority of recruiters- seriously.

Wouldn’t say Cox was unproven at nab league level, had a great year down back as a tall and when he played forward he kicked a bag of 4. He would’ve dominated this year if he had the chance to play.

Perhaps i was a tad harsh but you cannot compare his performance to McDonald’s effort at all
swap bruhn with cox and you hope we get our buddy and roughead

McDonald has performed at a level no 18 year key forward has performed at in the wafl maybe ever
granted the wafl is weaker than what it was but the kid can flat out play

Well you can’t compare them because one is 17th year and 1 is 18th year. Look how Mcdonald went last year, whose to say cox wouldn’t have popped this year aswell. McDonald’s performances in the wafl are getting blown out of proportion I feel, he started the season really well with 3 good games and played okay for the rest of the season. The question is, if his performances in the wafl were so dominating, why isn’t he a clear no.1 pick already not just being talked about as a top 4 - and that’s without the Victorian kids playing at all. You’d have to think if Victorian kids played 3-4 kids would really push their names to the top of the order after really coming on in their top age years - maybe Bruhn? Phillips? (we saw walsh go 1 in front of talls after being so dominate, Phillips would’ve been the same ), Cox? Perkins?. So my point is why would he give away so much capital for a kid that might only be the 8-10th best player in the pool. Yes he’s a good player and will have a good career, but is he the generational forward you trade up for, no.

Where have I said he can’t play, I rate him as a player. He will be a solid full forward for the next decade kick 3-400 goals play 150 odd games. But is he going to be the domiant forward of the next decade, no he isn’t. To be a generational player imo you are unstoppable when you are red hot, no one can do anything to quell your influence. As weve seen with buddy and martin their strengths/ athleticism allow them to play at a level many other can’t. These days as forward you need height and leap to be unstoppable or elite speed on the lead/ agility at ground level. Max King has a chance to be the next generational forward as he possesses these (think his true reach is close to 3m) and once he fills out his true reach will be unstoppable against defenders.
Mcdonald is only 196 - with an above average vertical 82 ( in perspective Archie Perkins has a higher true reach than Mcdonald) that combination won’t scare defenders as it’s about average in afl terms.
Mcdonald isn’t overally quick like JUL or buddy on the lead to burn off defenders and he doesn’t possess elite agility to be a massive threat on the ground. If recruiters were that excited by his season and potential upside once he reaches afl level, he’d be being talked about as the consensus no.1 pick - take out JUL.

The best are not always talked about as number one.
Anyway you speak like McDonald has no upside.
I can not make a call as I have only seen the kid play via video on my computer. In my experience you need to see someone play live 5 or 6 times before you can be making a informed call.
I know a bloke who watches a lot of WA footy and he says he is the best junior forward since Buddy.

I thought similar pairing Perkins and ODriscoll. I don't think Phillips makes it to 6
