Getting Thilthorpe would be worth losing out on Perkins.
I'd still grab Cox then figure out pick 8 from there...split, reach for an O'Driscoll, look another mid, start bidding on McInnes, Jones, etc.

Reid may not be the worst option either.
Draft would net us some good spine options.
Thilthorpe (FF)
Eyre (CHF/CHB)
Cox (CHF/CHB/wing?)
Brand (CHB/FB)
Reid (FB/CHB)

Allows one to not work out (as well as Zerk).
Though does go against my preference to pad the middle out.

Wouldn't spend 2 top picks on KPPs and take Eyre and Brand. Definitely no defender in top 10.

If Eyre struggles forward at 198cm with his athletic profile he's the defender.

I don't mind Reid and/or Cox.
Cox could be a winger if we find we don't need another bookend.
He and Langford on the wings could be interesting as a mix. two tall outlets out of defence.

If we're adding Perkins into the middle, we get a good balance
Thilthorpe slipping does change that a bit though. 5x talls in one draft.....

If he slipped that far, i'd expect the Crows to make a move on pick 6 as well.

We are sitting nicely having those run of picks.

Personally I think we'll go Hollands or McDonald with Pick 1. Crows have always held true to their talent order, and Thilthorpe just doesn't rate inside the Top 3 by anyone's measure (those that matter). Twomey has him at 4, eDPS has him at 6 and the Draft Central guys have him there as well.

I find it a bit bizarre that, despite the fact we've always historically drafted on best available talent (eg went for Dangerfield instead of Ebert), that a lot of Phantom Drafts have us taking Thilthorpe at Pick 1.

My guess is that if he gets to the GC pick there'll be a flood of offers coming in to get him. If GC pass on him altogether and elect to go for someone else then you'd have to start wondering if there was a reason he's sliding so far. Reportedly has some OP issues that clubs are looking into.

i think its a safe bet prediction by pundits.
they see SA kid, Adel holding #1, he's close enough

It is hard to predict who you go. Whilst there is a clear top 5 non-aligned crop, who the best is isn't clear.

So a flood of offers for pick 5 if Thilthorpe slides. But if GC dont trade the pick everyone starts worrying about OP? Interesting take. I suppose if he slid all the way to your 2nd pick you'd begrudgingly take him.

Some Bits from Cal Today

  • Best Key Forwards in order JUH, McDonald, Thrillthorpe, Cox (Essendon are interested), Matthew Allison
  • Crows working on McDonald/Hollands/Thrillthorpe
  • Collingwood keen to bundle 14 16 and future 1st
  • Gold Coast wanted to move up from 5 to 2, North Rejected the swap
  • Essendon linked to Cox, Interested in Archie Perkins and so is Hawthorn would be a surprise if he went at 4
  • Unlikely for Essendon to trade up
  • DGB the one least likely to fall out of the top 5
  • Nathan O'Driscoll likely 15-25 range a bargain after 25
  • First 5, Next 7, then Next 10 in groups of talents
  • Hollands too good to slide no one has shown this year that they are better. Covid hasn't done us favours here. Back up and running

Assuming they (Cal Twomey) didn't give a list but we could narrow out down easily enough?

Riley seems the most likely of that big 5 to fall, with us holding 3 selections early we could use the risk and take him imho. Although he may be very simialar to Josh Eyre as a more athletic jumping tall forward rather than a hulking power forward we so desperately need.

Admittedly this year has been wiped out foj1 but were there any U16 kids doing well last year? Be curious to know if we can by pass a tall forward (take Eyre obviously) and look to load up on a younger KPF in 2021.

No I reckon if he slides to 5 or 6 we'll put bids in for him, but I don't like our chances. I think GC either want to trade up in the Draft, or into 2021, so I'm not really sure what we can offer other than our 2021 1st, which we'll want to keep. Essendon will take him if he's still there

Would be excluding academy pick I think so assume it's:

Bruhn, Perkins, Reid, Henry, Chapman, Macrae and Cox based off of his rankings

He didn't, so first 12 are split into two as below

Said the Fantastic 5 so we know that to be
  1. McDonald
  2. Hollands
  3. Phillips
  4. DGB
  5. Thilthorpe
Next 7
  1. Reid
  2. Perkins
  3. Cox
  4. Bruhn
  5. Henry
  6. Chapman
  7. Macrae
Then the Next Group of 10 you can throw a blanket over

With Cook potentially breaking into the next 7 clubs like his goal kicking

Powell/Laurie other names mentioned in the Next Bracket

Yeah fair enough, that makes more sense than your first post. I think Collingwood, GWS and Geelong would be eyeing off our picks as well.

I am quite excited by the prospect of both Reid and Cox but it just seems too many talls with Brand and Eyre to come (and given other talls yet to get a game). The approach may well be to grab them now given they take more time to develop, go for another mid next year and throw money at available free agents. If Cox is that agile, maybe it does work.

I like the idea of both too. If all talls work out then worst case you can move Cox to the wing as a utility.

As you say they take longer to develop so if we're starting a rebuild we need to get the talls sorted ASAP. As you said we have options to get class midfielders in. We also got Caldwell who is still in a similar age range as the draftees so it's not like we've completely ignored the midfield this off season.

Seems its Cox and Perkins for us.

Id take Thilthorpe without even thinking though if available which then id strongly consider skipping on Cox

Although the gun mids dry up after Hollands, Phillips, Perkins it seems. If all are gone by our pick I'll be disappointed

Henry seems such a big hit or miss type

Think its either going

Adel - Thilthorpe
North - L.Mcdonald
Sydney - DGBarass
Hawks - Hollands
Gold Coast - Phillips

or

Adel - L.Mcdonald
North - E.Hollands
Sydney - DG Barass
Hawks - A.Perkins
Gold Coast - Phillips
Ess - ? Thilthorpe/N.Cox (Maybe both)

Cox Perkins Brand Eyre

Trade 8 to Collingwood

It’s always the option with the athletic forwards when they get drafted. If it doesn’t work up forward, the backline is always an option. Think Darcy Moore, bloody Liam Jones, Tom McCartin etc.
