Then in November, the Calder Cannons found out that the young tall forward's great-grandmother was Indigenous. The news was soon passed onto Essendon, who gladly accepted the Kilmore product as a member of the club's next generation academy.

This is the problem with the academy, hey you have a tiny little but of aboriginal in you go to Essendon

I don’t know if I’m losing my marbles but Thilthorpe doesn’t excite me anywhere near as much as others. The way he moves to me doesn’t scream ‘athletic’ and once he fills out even more he’ll become quite heavy.

In his under 17-18s footage he bullies people out of the way because he’s twice the size of them.

He’s compared to Tom Lynch, but lynch is very explosive, and lean. I don’t see that with Thilthorpe.

🤷‍♂️
Really? He moves extremely well for a big man from what I’ve seen. I really hope he falls to us.

you make him sound like the next Sean Darcy

If bids for Brand & Eyre come post- Pick 44, which i assume will move up in the draft, what do we think we'll do with the pick?

Neale for ruck depth?
Rioli jr for small forward?
Lord/Callow for KPF project?
Or just take Brand and keep the spot open for a DFA?

There's a reason the latest 2020 Draft Report just released last night from the Draft Central guys has him projected to go in the 1-10 range...

A lot of talk out there that he has OP issues that could take some time to settle. Could be another Daniher, or worse.

Yep Perkins went to GC
thats a shame.
I think if we took Phillips & Cox, i'd be looking at Reid too.
One mid, 2x KPD's. Loads us up to sort the backline and midfield out over the next 2 years.

Then focus on the KPF gaps when we see more from Jones, Wright & Eyre.

Yeah I'd love to get Perkins and Cox.

If we went Reid I think it's good insurance, if BZT or Brand develops into a solid KPD then Cox can shift to a HBF or wing position I think. If neither come on then we have Cox and Reid as our two KPD. My preference would be to take Perkins and Cox and then trade back and go someone like O'Driscoll though.

Wouldn’t be disappointed if that’s how it plays out. Phillips, Henry & Cox would be a good haul.
If we're going to get Phillips, then we simply have to get O'Driscoll. I don't even care if we're reaching. Balance over draft order.
We can't keep avoiding big bodied inside mids.

Completely agree.
I can't help thinking we're leaving up to chance drafting an inside big bodied mid next year or the year after.
Dunkley maybe next year, maybe not.
We paid overs getting Shiel, now can draft a few similar to him, but we meander about getting that big mid.
If we split pic 9 we are going to look like right mugs if we then lose out on O'Driscoll.

We need this guy. The best our forwardline has looked in the last decade was in 2017 with his past version running around.

there's enough around outside O'Driscoll.

But ideally i'd like to see at least 1x big mid (Perkins being the preferred candidate) & 1x KPD (Reid or Cox....i don't mind the idea of both given they can be flexible too).
If Phillips slides and he's too good to pass up, i'd take Cox then split the last pick with a hope that Reid might slide, but we can get to a bigger mid as well.

I might be losing my marbles then. I’m biased, I don’t rate ruckman as highly as others. Maybe that’s what it is.

... if we draft him I’m still going to be calling him the next Grundy, I make no apologies for this

Yeah but nobody else drafts Riley’s or Rory’s

Cox seems perfect for us. Can play both ends so we can start playing him as a defender for a couple of years and then move him forward once we give up on the Stewart/Wright combo and try him there for 3 years before moving him back and forth between defence and attack just like Hurley, Carlisle and Hooker before him.

A lot of the highlights are of his SANFL form too. If his groin isn’t shot I’d bloody love him at 6. Mindful of the fact 2021 is a bit light on for talls and we’re not flush with elite tall forward talent.

Could be Riley or Brodie so calling him the next Grundy at least you cover both ends of the spectrum
