likely. though no harm in trying to get some future collateral for it.
Once Brand/Eyre get into range where 44 isn't needed to match, should move the pick.
Given Gold Coast's pick trades lately they'd probably give us a future first for it.

Whoever suggested Reid AND Cox must be a real masochist.

Not addressing the midfield is a great way to make sure they are eternally trailing guys in that are taking uncontested chesties or standing in the forward 50 watching the play unfold 150 metres away.

Wouldn’t mind 1, 2 is bordering on self sabotage

if we wanted both, we could split 8 into 14 & 16.
Pies get in ahead of McInnes
Take 2 mids & 2 KPPs plus another 2 via NGA.

i prefer that option to looking at a DFA tbh.

Okay, serious question, why would Collingwood accept the third of a three pick stretch? There's a reason you'd prefer that option, and there's a reason Collingwood would be asking for 6.

Have you watched those games though?
you game watchers don't seem to really "get" those of us who form quick impressions on limited info and then stick passionately to our positions.

show a little compassion. this time of year isn't easy for us.

Would depend who we take at each pick & who they'd be targeting.
Doesn't work if it's Reid or Cox. But if it's someone else, 8 or 6 doesn't matter to them.

Deal may still be there, or may be gone if we take Cox and Reid and they're the players.

the first 10 picks (bids incl) will make this a very fascinating draft.

It definitely matters.

What's the point of trading up to pick 8 if we take the player they want with 6 or 7? They'll be gunning for pick 6 if there was any deal to be had. I guarantee it

I mean:
  • We picked up Caldwell in the trade period, so there's one mid already
  • We've got three first rounders, so we can easily take Perkins or another mid with 6
  • We'll have rookie spots available so we can get mids in the rookie draft, supplemental selection period, or mid-season draft (or in all three, spots permitting)
  • Next year is supposed to be a mid heavy draft and we'll probably have a top ten pick, plus Dunkley might still wanna come and we should be able to get it over the line (finally)
  • Plus Cox can play on the wing and we're definitely in need of another winger (Langford's got the other wing locked down imo)
I wouldn't be surprised if we only got one of them, but I'm all in on getting Cox and Reid next week. Perkins, Cox, Reid, and the NGA boys (Brand and Eyre) sounds like a really great draft haul to me.

agree.
Hence if they want Reid or Cox, and we take both, we'll find there is no deal at 8.
Really depends who they want...or if that matters vs. getting in ahead of a McInnes bid.

Find their hand quite strange.
They've landed 2 picks right in the danger zone (one as part of kicking treloar out)
They have no picks after them to match points for McInnes. they're shopping their 1st next year around due to Daicos.
And they have something like 7 spots to fill for min. list sizes.

Guy must have a strategy, but ****ed if i can work out what it is.

Ideal draft.

Pick 6: If Hollands doesn’t slide, trade To Adel for pick 9 and 23.

Pick 7: Perkins
Pick 8: Cox

Trade pick 9 and future 3rd for Pie’s pick 16 and future 1st.

16: Macrae
23: O’Driscoll
Brand and Eyre

I wouldn't be too hard on yourself for not working out their strategy. Looking at their approach to trade week, strategic planning didn't seem to be one of their strong points. Was a bit more of a make it up as we go along approach and hope to offload some coin. I think they must have expected clubs to chase some of their players harder but it didn't play out that way and then they got desperate, which has also left them all over the place for the draft. Anyway, nice to see them in a bit of a bother.

I think if a trade is done then its when pick 8 is live and a player they're very keen on is still available, eg. if they're keen on Reid and he's still there they may try to do a trade then.

But you're right doing a trade then would be suicide for them, we could bid on McInnes at pick 6 and they've effectively traded 2 first for McInnes when they could've only used pick 12.

Cox seems to think he's more suited to HB.

I like the idea of he and Langford playing tall, athletic wings with tidy disposal going inside 50.
Both being able to get to the HF line is handy as well.

Shame we didn't do F1 & 8 for Dunkley & 14.
Perkins & Cox + Powell/O'Driscoll/Poulter would have set us up nicely.

Or we could have moved 6 into 16 and F1 from Pies and maintained that presence.

Dunks + Caldwell + Pick 7, 14 & 16 from the draft.

We’re not going to be able to fix the midfield this year, there’s enough holes in the list it’s going to be a multi year effort.

get a bunch of talls now and some mids next year

Makes very little sense to me, where do we in good conscience expect to fit those two in in addition to Brand and Eyre and Jones and Bryan AND Francis and Ridley?

We’ve tried amazing spine with substandard midfield before and it turned into absolute dogshit, I don’t want to repeat the dose

I don't know if we're gonna do any pick swaps with anyone tbh. Think we'll back in Dodo and co to find some good kids with our first rounders.

Cox can play wing, so he's sorted. Hooker's out of contract end of next year and might retire, so there's a spot available. Hurley and Ambrose won't be too far behind him, so there's another two backline spots freed up. Stewart's not a spring chicken, might be done by 2025 or earlier, and is 100% the kind of player you want a young KPF to push out of a side. So there's another spot up for grabs.

With how long talls take to develop and the understanding that not all of them are going to become guns or even going to stay at Essendon the whole time, it's definitely doable and manageable. As long as we're also getting mids through the draft and trade periods then we'll be fine.

Specimen...god I hope he gets to us
Let me take you on a little journey of a player that looked like Tarzan... but played like Jane:

Collingwoods strategy is to get 2 picks in before McInnes. They will have to then trade in some picks to help match that bid. They have extra future picks for this already. They want 1 of Cox/Reid. Their future 1st is on the table as it will be used for Daicos straight up. The strategy is a little weak because 1. everyone knows thats what they want to do 2. If they wait until their 1st pick at 14 both Cox and Reid will most likely be gone 3. A bid for McInnes is a good chance of happening before their 1st pick at 14, meaning they only get McInnes and their 2nd pick. We are in the best position to help. 8 and 2021 3rd (and a handshake not to bid) for 16 and 2021 1st.

It’s certainly doable, no ones disputing the fact that it can be done but I don’t think it’s even close to in our best interests, it’s essentially setting us up to fail.

You can bluff your key posts if your small brigade is controlling the game but it doesn’t work the other way around. We’ve seen all these gun key position players look like mugs when the opposition midfield is rampaging out of the middle and we all bemoan it, why would we elect for that again?

Alot of

N.Cox
T.Bruhn
Connor Stone

Mentioned with us with Cal. Still Perkins a chance but keeps saying could slide to North

Still wont put it past us trying to make sure hes not going top 5 at the moment
