I'm coming around to the idea of taking Phillips if he's available. Yes he would be adding to the mosquito fleet but we don't really have another player like him. He's a mature kid with great leadership qualities, teaming him up with blokes like Merrett, McGrath, Ridley who are all professionals about the way they prepare can really help drive a winning culture which is exactly what we need right now.

If we could get Dunkley next year too that's an outstanding leadership group for the next 10 years.

I don't see how the likes of Bruhn, Powell, Macrae give us a point of difference in our midfield. They're all the same type of players as caldwell, parish, Shiel, McGrath and Merrett. Sub 184 players who aren't and never will be big enough to win the inside ball, and even then play the same way. We either need a 187+ extractor, or someone of a similar build but who could be anything (Perkins). That being said someone like Will Phillips would be too good to pass up.

I'm no expert, but based on highlights and write ups I hope we do something like the following:

#6 - One 'high ceiling' tall midfielder, such as Perkins or McInnes. Both are somewhat unknown in full time midfield roles but we have 3 top ten picks so let's roll the dice on one of them. Could be the next superstar or complete bust but I think the risk is worth it given we haven't had a legit non-father son superstar for 20 years.

# 7 - Cox - seems too hard to pass up, if he doesn't work out in one role, try him in another.

# 8 - A proven contested ball winning mid like Phillips (if available), O'Driscoll, McRae. Reaching for O'Driscoll or McRae might not be so bad if our pick up 8 ends up being pick 11 or 12 with all the academy bids.

I also hope we only feign interest in Thilthorpe so we can trade picks with Adelaide if he slides to our first pick.

Alot of

N.Cox
T.Bruhn
Connor Stone

Mentioned with us with Cal. Still Perkins a chance but keeps saying could slide to North

Still wont put it past us trying to make sure hes not going top 5 at the moment

Also Macrae aswell
that's a funny way of spelling Perkins, Cox and Reid :P

we should be less concerned about Perkins going top 5.
If he does it means someone has slipped, and we either get one of them or bids for 6 start coming in.

I don't mind a player being under 6 foot, as long as they can win it, distribute it accurately and tackle. Will Phillips (WiPhi as I have dubbed him) is the best midfielder in the draft, and he wins the ball.
yeah, im cool for Phillips @ 6.
Perkins, then Cox/Reid would be good.
And if Perkins is gone, then Cox or Reid & a split of 8 for a couple of bigger mids later in the first.

Matt Balmer in the Fox Sports draft Q&A just said he thinks GC might take Reid. Must admit I got a little bit tingly at the potential to get Cox and Perkins as well as Thilthorpe/Phillips. I know Phillips is in the mold that we don't necessary need, but he's got plenty of talent and isn't such a bad pick if we also get Perkins.

That would probably be the best possible outcome imo.

If Cox, Phillips and Perkins are available I’d hope we don’t try and get too exotic.

Just take the guns and run.

Wet dream stuff, all Victorian lads, can all use it well, are all aerobic machines and Perkins and Cox in particular offer a real point of difference, they’re not just your run of the mill forward flanker or beanpole tall.

It’s fast becoming my favourite haul possible.

All 3 are quality mature “non-dickhead” kids which are worth their weight in gold.

100% extremely happy with that haul. All different players who offer something different. Perkins and Cox both have huge ceilings and Phillips has a good floor. Throw in Brand and Eyre and it'd be a great draft for us.

I like it except for the fact we're drafting an undersized inside midfielder that won't help us at all when we already have McGrath, Parish, Shiel and Merrett as well as Caldwell not being huge.

I can't wait for Lachlan Brooks to have a fantastic championships next year and everyone to start bandwagoning for him too

Me and eDPS already want Arlo Draper

I agree that Phillips' size is not ideal given what we already have, but he is part of the fantastic 5. Have to take him if he slips and becomes part of the awesome 8.

Well we better hope he doesn't slip. Or that if he does a team offers overs to get up for him

As I've told him, I want Draper, Sinn, Andrews and Johnson. All of them
I take it all of them are big bodied mids? Completely clueless about next years draft but it should have some impact on who we draft this year so would appreciate the insight.

If he fell down to pick 6, would you skip Phillips with all 3 picks?

Can I ask why people want to keep a pick for a dfa? Is there really anyone that doesn't look likely to get contract at another team currently worth more than a potential 18 year old at pick whatever?
