Mate you just need to channel your inner doggies for a little bit and suddenly you'll see the wisdom in asking for insane overs, not budging, and having the other side lambasted by the media for being unwilling to play the Alan Bond to your Kerry Packer. Proven formula.
Except we are Essendon, not the AFL media's darlings in the Bulldogs, and cant get away with whatever we want because we are a small club that went on a cinderella run 5 years ago.

If we were to ask for the deal you quoted there would be 10 stories published about how Dodoro is hard to deal with before the end of the draft.

Not that that's a reason not to negotiate strongly, but asking for a 2021 top 3 pick and pick 9 for pick 6 is bonkers, and no list manager would ever say yes to it.

why do we care about media reports?

Thilthorpe is rated top 5. Is a good chance at 1.
And is a mobile, talented key forward (we need one of those?)

Simply saying, we take him unless Adel or Freo offer up more than a later 1st and future 2nd.

Had Adel tried that for, say Lukosius, do GCS give up Luko for Caldwell & Schoenberg?

We don't the the ability to re-hab a kid with bad anything right now.

Leave him to the Hawks, who have done great with Jager and get 3 more seasons than anyone else could.

I'm not a fan of bringing in a kid who is busted and getting 4 years out of them, when we're in the pick range where we should be looking 150+ games from 6, 7 & 8.

The chicken little syndrome. Has had very minor groin soreness. Not like he has been broken down. He played.
We also have the Hawks former second in command as far as the fitness department goes.

Wright, Thilthorpe, Jones & Eyre give us a bit to work with as well.
Could really build out the bookends this draft.

Brand, Eyre, Thilthorpe, Cox plus a good mid in Perkins would be a nice haul.

Last year GWS gave up 2019 pick 6 and their 1st 2020 pick to move up 2 places to pick 4. If crows want pick 6 for pick 9 they also should have to give up their 2021 1st or one of their 2020 2nd picks and their 2021 2nd pick.
If the Crows really want him then they will take him with their first pick.

Im not sure bringing in Josh Eyre will have any bearing on us going after a KPF. Brand as a more proven and higher rated player may have some bearing on who we go for in the top 10.
Plenty of people say Eyre is the bloke that would have shown a decent amount of improvement if they had of played games this year.

would be a bit of a reach, but the Crows could really do with a Phillips.
Kid oozes future leader. Something they've really struggled with.

Got a feeling the Swans might go Riley if he's there
Missed Daniher. Buddy & Reid struggling to get out there
Their ruck stocks are f'd too.

Read my damn comment. I was responding to the post i quoted. I dont give a **** about media reports.

Ok lets use your example of Lukosius. Adelaide in the draft had pick 10, and GCS took Lukosius with pick 2. So you are trying to jump eight spots, and more importantly 8 teams who will likely take him. In that case. You would expect to pay a premium to move up that much in a super strong draft.

Compare that to our situation. Adelaide would have to jump just 3 picks, but only have to jump one team (us) in a draft which is way more speculative. Why would you pay a future pick 1-3 to jump, in effect, one team for a player.

All of this is moot however. Adelaide would never do that deal, and demanding it from them will just end negotiations on the spot. If you are really wanting to trade, extract as muxh value as possible (maybe their pick 9 and 22 this year and future 2nd) but to aks for their first this year AND pick 9 is delusional, and probbly worse than the bulldogs asking for pick 6 and a future 1st for Dunkley

I could certainly see this happening. Would change the complexity of our draft strategy completely.

So many different combinations of how the draft could unfold on draft night,

fair enough
just saying to give up access to Thilthorpe, would want more than 9 and a future 2nd.
9, 22 & F2 is probably that deal.

On their F1, they're not as bad as their position this year. That was one of the more obvious tanks i've seen in a long time. They should have spanked us by 5 goals. They nearly accidentally beat us.
Which has me thinking they'll grab Thilthorpe at 1. they've surely monitored him and positioned themselves.

might be a bit like the McGrath pick for us, but they could do with it. Doubt they will, but from the outside looking in that move makes a lot of sense.
Their midfield is bleeding too.

Understand this but it feels like people are pinning there hopes on what ifs.
Same thing can be said about Brand or anyone else this year. From all the info I have Eyre is the player out of the two who they think will be the best. Brand is a good defender but Eyre has a bit more X factor. His testing results showed that.
The fact is there are always what ifs. We already have two young blokes we drafted last year in Jones and Bryan who have have actually played limited games of footy in the last 12 months. You can add McBride to that list. We traded for 2MP. That is 3 unproven and 1 needing to find something already.
If we take one more KP prospect in the top 10 that will actually leave our list with 6 unproven KP prospects. I think that is a reasonably strong position as far as finding a couple of decent players out of them.

My thoughts which are not backed by any sort of untold wisdom other than conversations behind the scenes is the Crows will pick either McDonald or Thilthorpe. I know that is not rocket science but they will go with the guy the rate the best. There is some comment that it will be McDonald but that is not from the Crows.
Personally I will be surprised if Riley makes it to us. I can not see 4 clubs passing on a mobile skillful marking forward that can also play in the ruck.

yep.
You'd like to think at least 3 will work out
Wright isn't exactly an unknown quantity. He looks a decent enough player. Dew just didn't like him over Day and King. Two top 3 pick KPFs.

The likelihood someone like Thilthorpe doesn't work out is fairly low (barring injury)
Most top 6 picks (KP or not) work out.

my gut feel is he goes top 4.
Either Crows, Roos or Swans take him. If he doesn't, then he may be a chance if the hawks and GCS keep their picks.
I can see the Hawks going a skilful mid (Phillips, Perkins, Bruhn) & the Sun looking at DGB/Reid/Cox. They're fairly well balanced but a skilful KPD would complete them nicely moving forward.

Essendon has become the latest club linked to first-round draft bolter Conor Stone as the club considers a trading of picks with Collingwood, reports The Age.

Foxfooty.com.au reported on Thursday that Stone had been closely tracked by clubs holding selections in the second half of the draft’s top 20, including Adelaide (Pick 9), the Giants (Picks 10, 13 and 15) and Collingwood (Picks 14 and 16).

But The Age reported on Friday that Stone, a versatile 189cm prospect that averaged 71 Champion Data ranking points and 4.8 score involvements per game in Oakleigh’s 2019 NAB League premiership campaign, had been linked to Essendon, as well as East Fremantle’s Jack Carroll.

Hope we keep it simple and:
  • Bid on McInnes at 6
  • If Collingwood match, take Perkins instead. If Collingwood don't match, take Perkins at 7.
  • If Collingwood matched McInnes at 6 and we took Perkins instead, take Cox at 7. If we got McInnes at 6 and Perkins at 7, take Cox at 8.
  • If Collingwood matched McInnes at 6 and we took Perkins instead and Cox at 7, take one of Cook/Henry/Macrae/O'Driscoll/Poulter at 8. Or split 8 with someone (maybe GWS?) and take O'Driscoll and Poulter or one of them and a key position player.
Basically I hope we get two tall mids and Cox. Reid's good but Cox is better and fits our needs better imo.

Cox really does seem like all that, except he just doesn't feel like he'd be able to hold down a key position as well as Reid. He seems like he could be a gun flanker or winger, which is why I think that him and Reid are mutually exclusive.

My 2 cents worth is the right balance is 2 mids and 1 tall. Don't see how we can go for Cox and Reid and Reid seems to be the safer bet. Hoping for Perkins but not sure beyond that. I also don't mind the idea of trading 8 to Pies for a round 1 pick this year and future 1st. Seems 10-20 is pretty even so don't mind losing pick 8.

Surely we have more pressing needs than a medium forward. We've already got Laverde and Stringer.

Unless he's the latest attempt to fix our midfield issues by drafting a forward instead of a midfielder.
aka the Begley

Talks of his versatility in recent Twomey stuff. Wouldn’t be opposed if the thinking was a Zach Bailey plug and play where ever type.

You guys realise that Stone is a similar type to Perkins?

It looks a bit silly to complain that we are looking at a medium forward, when a consensus pick on this thread is a medium forward. Perkins has only 1 NAB league game where he had 20 disposals and had 8 clearances in the entire year.

If we want players who have midfield experience we should look at Poulter, O'Driscoll or Carroll.
