How does the draft work this year? Is is still the first 20 on the first night, with the rest on the second night?
Nah all tonigt and RD tomorrow (I think)

This would simply never happen in the NFL where Eli Manning refused to go to San Diego, got taken by them at pick 1 and successfully demanded to be traded to NY.
That one time

His limits is not being able to play football interstate while getting paid sh*t loads of money. Give us a spell, he just wants the comfort of staying in inner East Melbourne
So you wouldn't have drafted Bailey Smith (WBD) then if we had the opportunity to?
Fairly sure its the exact same situation...

What if Logan Mcdonald did the same? Would everyone have the same view as its ok

There is no doubt saying something like this is a bit of a hit to the character and i have no doubt thats how its seen amongst AFL clubs aswell

It’s not a totally different situation and not comparable.

How is it not? Remove the emotion of it and the reality of the equation is an 18-year-old having the maturity to know whether a career move interstate, away from family is in his best interests.

He knows his value (which is that he has suitors in Victoria) and is factoring that into his decision.

Think Bruhn is going to be an inside mid/half forward flank similar to Caldwell/Parish at AFL level. He may start in a wing like both but im not sure theyre athletic traits suit the wing. Im not sure what his aerobic running and marking is like?

Im very happy to take the 3rd best bonafide mid

Sydney still mentioning him at pick 3 even if its just a mention. Was impressive training at of Geelong apparently

Dodo covers all avenues with this pick instead of being called draftig HFF and trying to turn them into mids.

I prefer the SA lad Powell but thats from a very short video clip and not seeinbg Bruhn at all. The fact the swans are still talking about him at 3 is enough for me to be happy and back our recruiters in

is he the third best midfielder? Or the third best midfielder 2 years ago when he last played?

Would you rather know now than in two years when he's requesting a trade to WC, who have **** all trade capital after winning the premiership and we have sunk two years of development?

If your grading him on whether he works hard I'd say the amount of size he put on in the last 12 months is a greater indicator of his willingness to work than a comment about not wanting to go interstate.

How many good players have wanted a trade home at age 21+ and it's not seen as a sign of poor attitude to them but it is for an 18 year old to not want to leave home?

Not saying he doesnt work hard. Maybe wrong terms used

When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Is he mentally going to be tough when required or is he going to be finger pointing and blaming others

To be ruling out half of your employers after not kicking a pill for 15 months is a ballsy call and one that wouldnt be looked upon kindly by even those not ruled out

Will leave it there, happy to still take him but will see why clubs pass

Youd be ok with L.Mcdonald walking to the dockers at pick 15?

For me it's not that he said it it was more in the way he said it, he came across as a bit arrogant I thought ?

I actually like what Perkins has said, it's honest, it means interstate clubs are not going to draft him which saves them a pick.
It's kind of nice hearing somebody say something like that in the media instead of the cookie cutter stuff that's usually said.
Do I want every player doing it? No.

He's no doubt cast himself in the role of other talented players with the mindset of "could I just leave the league at age 26 because I want to do something else?" though. That's a concern, could really slide now.

far out those 3 times
Bo Jackson, Dimitrius Underwood, Steve Francis plenty of others have done it and that's just players who refused to play with the team that actually drafted them, plenty of other players have threatened to not sign if drafted by specific teams.

Who said he would, it would get to a point before then when a club would say the risk is worth the reward.

To tidy up my previous comment, I'm more suggesting that having a more informed view of the selection can only benefited a recruiters decision.

You would rather know the player's honest mindset and his thoughts beforehand s you can make a selection with as much information as possible.

Think it’s another case of someone having the courage (or thick headedness) to say what a lot of this cohort is probably thinking anyway

Where did I say about not drafting them? Yes he did the same thing and it’s wrong, it seems in Vic only kids from 2 teams areas tend to do this. Don’t see kids from cannons doing it, or knights, or jets or power they are all just thankful to have the opportunity to get drafted. Maybe rayner should’ve told lions a couple of years ago he only wanted to stay in vic.

Its very rich from a year of 12 months off and im not sure he exactly proved a heap last year? Other than being very athletically built
Maybe the 12 months off is part of the reason he is so definitive. What if they close borders and he doesn't get to see his friends or family for the next 12 months?

A lot of people are experiencing existential crises at the moment, moving closer to family, moving in with family, moving out of the cities or whatever in case it all comes around again. It's really not shocking.

Yep. Rich kids are a bigger issue for it than those who are happy to just have the chance. There’s exceptions of course, McGrath would’ve played in Timbuktu I reckon, but it does feel like there’s a correlation.

Something different

That’s pretty interesting, the teams at the top there haven’t had many top ten picks (except for Sydney with academy picks) so their slugging score has gone up because of their ability to get games into their later picks.

Shows the importance of culture and development.
