Dons Passed on selecting any player at pick 51
Dogs bid at pick 53
Dons then matched the bid

I like many thought once you had passed that was it but that doesn't seem to be the case.

We passed because were looking to take 1/2 spots open for either SPP or have spots ipen for players during next year which allows us to actually see players play/train ect which is smart and seemed a constant move by many clubs

Dogs however kept plenty honest in us and fremantle with bids

Sam Power seems a very smart operator

I feel like a bit came back to bite Dodoro today and him trying to get Rioli from the tigers with them bidding on Eyre during round 2 just before our bid and the dogs maybe due to some Dunkley negotiations that didnt occur....but maybe im drawing a long bow

But people can play your game especially once its been worked out and you dont hsve any more bullets in the cap to fire
Dogs probably keeping us honest and little bit of payback over Dunkley but you dont bid on someone you dont want. They knew we would match, as we would have known with Rioli and Richmond. Rioli more a good luck charm given the number of Rioli's that have played in premierships.

You can choose to pass on a single pick or the whole lot of them. We did the former with Pick 51 since we wanted to still match Brand later on.

Other than Maher and Trew, is there anyone else people would like us to take in the rookie draft tomorrow?
I dont think wed be taking anyone

Surely we are looking to use it as SPP or during the year in the drafts

We had our chance on those players and wernt interested

I think there was serious debate around about matching. Wasnt clear cut from our end you could tell that by the video

We'll free up a spot for SPP or MSD when we put Mozzie on the inactive list. We probably didn't take anyone just to make sure we had a senior list spot open for a DFA (Kyle Dunkley maybe?) and so we had enough points to match Eyre and Brand without going into deficit.

Maybe Duval but I thought Maher had a heap of potential and can play forward so wouldn't mind getting him

Duval would be neat. I was gonna say we should get Kalin Lane but we're probably all talled out until like the 2025 draft.

Not sure if we'd go Dunkley instead of Trew or Maher just given that they're similar-ish players but probably with more upside? Not entirely sure though haven't seen a lot on either.

Duval sounds like he could be alright but I guess depends whether we see him as that line breaking half back or whether he's too similar to a lot of the medium defenders we already have.

So his first day as an AFL player

Breakfast: Make national headlines for draft tampering
Dinner: Get drafted in the top 10
Nightcap: Go viral as the self-proclaimed loosest campaigner in Portsea

Callow. Surely we haven't loaded up on enough talls.

DFA period is done. We can use a PSD pick but we can add another rookie so eh

I mean Dunkley we can just get outside of the rookie draft since I'm pretty sure he qualifies as a DFA? Can't hurt to get him and one of Trew and Maher.

Kinda hope Saints get him 'cause he'd suit their list well and they need another Jack. Feels like he'd be a trap for a team like us, even as a rookie.

Ah okay, thought there was another one post draft for some reason.

We have 15 KPP/rucks on the list, and that's not even counting guys like Laverde, Stringer, Francis, Ridley and Gleeson

Snelling must be the first outside midfielder with no apparent outside game.
You mean apart from his kicking skills, endurance and overall work ethic?

But those aren't traits we want in outside midfielders. Nope.

Can't kick it over 35m in the rare instance that he actually decides not to handball. Provides zero run and carry or aerial presence. Snelling is the very antithesis of an outside mid. He's an undersized guy that isn't good enough to play his preferred inside role and has been slotted onto a flank to lay a few tackles here and there. His effort is good but impact is negligible.

He doesn't kick it often enough I agree, but he does have a very good 30-45 metre kick when he does actually use it. He's a good, solid player that would thrive at somewhere like Richmond.

Your assessment is clearly not shared by the coaches as he didn't miss a game and finished top 10 in the BnF this year.

Yeah, but other than that, you'd have to say he's ok, right?

It does appear that there haven’t been any Dodoro specials where we pick a player no one has ever heard of, and have simply gone for guys that appear to be at worst AFL standard, with upside.
Exactly. Nothing left field or out of the ordinary. Just players that look to have a very good upside. Some would argue we went one tall too many but I suspect the Cox and Reid combo was just too good to pass up. We actually did need to stock up the future KP cabinet.

I think Richmond knew we would throw in a late bid for Rioli. There where a few whispers about us doing it before the draft. It was not in anyway due to the fact that they bid on Eyre. We where expecting bids on both NGA players somewhere after 35.

You would hardly be expecting a sub 180cm to have aerial presence. Merrett and Parish have none either.
His impact in a side that can not defend as a team was actually good.

We should have two SSP slots available if we put Mozzie on the LTI list.

The upside of picking someone up via SSP/PSD is that we can offer them a one year deal. If we took them in the draft it is two years.

With list spots coming down next year again and an apparent super draft, we may look to keep our [list spot] options open
