Hey DPS, is that a view as to who clubs might take or just a straight ranking of the players?

I can't see us taking Hayes unless he is genuinely thought of as a potential forward (e.g. like Wright) and that currently seems like a bit of a stretch.

Based on what I've been reading I'd like a mid with pick 1 and Coleman-Jones with pick 2 (though CCJ that late looks to be unlikely).

Most of the players are put where they are expected to go at this stage. With Hayes im picking best available he should become one of the best rucks in the competition in a few years and although his forward craft isn't great it is improving and if he played out of a square at VFL next year he could just about be our leading goal kicker.

Dow would be my preference but with every week that passes he keeps getting rated higher and higher. CCJ is every chance of being available at our second pick but so is a player like Andrew Brayshaw and Trent Mynott, both of these players would had nice depth to our midfield. If one of Dow, LDU, Cerra, Fogarty, Rayner somehow make it to our pick of course id pick them before Hayes but im not sure any other mids after that are worth top 10 picks and Hayes would be a steal after pick 10.

I have Constable going at the pick after Hayes and he might be an option for our first aswell. He is pretty much a Watson clone but he is much better overhead and a longer kick than Jobe. Very slow but a stoppage specialist and he can even play behind the ball and take marks and set up play a bit like a Goddard. His kicking was poor early in the year but it has gotten a lot better as the year has gone on.

It makes it interesting that Hayes is that good (as opposed to being a token tall guy that is discussed as a first round pick because he's the best tall).

As is usually the case, I'm getting pretty close to doing a 180 on what I think we should do with our picks this year. I've been reading about a lot of athletic talls, South Australians in particular, and am starting to think that we load up with talls. I'm less worried about our long-term midfield now that Laverde has shown that he has hardly missed a beat (albeit as a forward) and Langford and Mutch are consistently playing well in the VFL.

If Begley was to graduate into the midfield for the rest of the VFL season and Laverde, Langford and Mutch all maintain their form it really changes the make-up of the list when thinking about what is the best long term fit.

I'd back Mutch to become as good as any one-paced midfielder who is likely to be available from pick 10 (which assumes that the coveted inside-out powerhouse mids will all be taken). It's not to downplay the quality of players I've seen nothing of but Mutch has significant runs on the boards as a VFL wingman/mid and he's still a kid.

Honestly, guys like Dodoro must lose a lot of sleep second-guessing themselves.

For me it's hard to get the first pick wrong it's extremely even from 10-25 and the player we get at our 2nd pick could be just as good as the player we get at 8-12. I think we pick Hayes there because he is best available. If we are desperate for a tall mid we go Constable or just trade it for Hopper if need be. There will be heaps of decent mids at our second pick although most will be on the smaller side. We could take a player like Clarke or Garner as a defender to allow McGrath to go into the midfield and both are agile and versatile to play in any position.

Not many key talls at our first pick but plenty of 3rd talls in Wooler and Allen could be available. I feel Dodoro will go best available this year and me personally if we can't get one of the better inside mids last to our first I'd just pick the best player available

The only game I watched in full was the Country/Metro match, and admittedly I was keeping an eye out for other players, but I didn't notice Constable at all. Went back and watched his highlights after the glowing reviews, and he seemed very good at getting into the right spot to receive, but very little contested work for a guy his size and nothing particularly exciting about his disposal.

Ive seen first hand that his contested work is top notch, not a bull in any sense just gets his body behind it and is very clean with his hands, very Jobe like I wouldn't say Jobe attacks the ball very hard he just reads the taps well and uses his smarts and bigger frame. Very clean in the wet and he is super consistent he is yet to have a game under 20 touches and that goes for Metro, TAC and school footy. He also has a frame to build on so he isn't winning contested ball on his size alone and added size could make him even better on the inside.

Here are the main contenders for our first pick at this stage

Big fan of Dow and Coffield, would love to take either of them.

Do you see Coffield turning into a mid at the next level? And with our midfield needing a big contested body, do you think Dow would be a good fit despite being 184cm?

Coffield can play in the middle but he has spent most of his TAC year in defence occasionally switching up forward to good effect. I'd compare him to Scrimshaw from last year who moves like a midfielder and a nice size to be a tall mid but had mostly played in defence and then would Switch forward at times and look dangerous. If a club believes he can be a mid I'd take Coffield as a top 5 pick I just havnt seen enough of him in the midfield to be confident that he can

Dow I feel would be similar to Parish but slightly taller and stronger in the contest in the Selwood or Cunnington would. Dow at this stage I feel is the most efficent contested player in his draft he is only 3cm shorter than LDU and if he was the same height I'd probly take Dow ahead of him.

I just hope Worp is around for our second pick :D Seems everyone has fallen out of love with him. Reminds me of Luke Parker in his draft year , should have been rated higher but for some reason being considered a little vanilla went against him.

I wouldn't say he is vanilla but his kicking is so inconsistent. Really loved his kicking against Country and he went into old habits after that game. Still tough as nails and would be a bargain at our 2nd

I am not over worried about his kicking mainly as it it not that he is a bad kick but more the fact he can often just kick it away rather than looking for a good option. Luke Dahlhaus was very similar for the Falcons. Went at an average efficiency in a lot of games because hunted the ball and just kicked it forward.
the games Worpel has played in the back half have shown he can get it right.

Yep your spot on there it's not his kicking action at all. Where do you have him personally?

Personally I rate him 15 - 25 but if you where picking in the 12-15 range he would be worth a punt IMO.
I think from last year SPP and Parfit where looked at as not the best kicks as far as decision making goes but both have done well.
It is a little hard to line them up as there are 7 or 8 midfielders in the 10-30 range that look good. I think Dow may end up inside the top 10 if he finishes the season in the same form.
As a group the midfielders are not as good as last years (which I think will prove to be the best draft of all time) but there are some really good prospects in the top 50 or so before it starts to fall away a bit.

With how our season is panning out and our draft position outside the top 10, i think we will draft one of Worpel or Petruccelle with Coffield as an outsider.
I think we will make the finals and win at least the first round which will give us a pick around 13 or 14. Ive got a crush on Petruccelle and think he will complement McGrath with his similar game style but more offensive side to balance McGrath Defensive attributes. Not that Petrooch lacks any defensive ability. Wpuld love to hear DPS take on the lad.

Top 20 is too high for me with Petruccelle. He has incredible speed and a nice leap but he is very hit and miss and can go completely missing in some games. His upside is good and when he does get it right he looks good but until he can become more consistent and play well against good teams I won't have him as a top 20 pick.

I concur with the consistency of him. Ive only seen him live once and noticed him go through the motions but then he can suddenly spurt to life. I wish I saw the game he kicked 6 goals. I think he has some value and could become something easy thanks to the AFL system helping him unleash his potential. Also honestly think Coffield is a bit vanilla and even though Worpel is a touch too I think Worpel has extra mental fortitude to crack on well withing the AFL system.

Coffield is far from vanilla, his game in round 1 he was the match winner up forward after dominating down back. Kicked 4 goals in the 2nd half in the best game I've seen anyone play this year

Who's rivalling the ridiculousness of 2001?

Just think as a group there will be more players who will be very good out of last years draft than 2001. They may not be Ablett or Judd or Hodge but as a group I think they will rank up with the best.

Eastern Ranges could have 5 players go in the top 20 this year. Trent Mynott is another Eastern player high on clubs radars. 185cm 73 kg inside/outside midfielder who can kick goals. An October birth so he still has plenty of growth left with his old man apparently a pretty big unit.

Mynott has played 4 games for Eastern his stats are
Game 1 18 Disposals, 1 Goal, 4 Tackles
Game 2 30 Disposals, 2 Goals, 7 Tackles
Game 3 31 Disposals, 1 Goal, 7 tackles
Game 4 27 Disposals, 1 Goal, 2 Tackles

He averages 26 Touches a game and has 5 goals for the year equal to Cerra who also averages 26 Touches and has kicked 5 goals. Both from 4 games yet one is rated maybe top 3 with Mynott hardly talked about.

He has been in the bests for all of those games. His game against SA for Metro he had 18 Toucches and 9 tackles.

Along with Jackson Ross, Dylan Moore, Tom North and Ryley Stoddart that's 9 players Eastern could have drafted this year.

Have known the Mynott's for quite a few years.
Family are all fitness fanatics, Old man Paul is not big height wise, Prob around 6'0 - 6'1
But definitely a ripped unit, Would put most blokes in their mid 20's to shame and hes now 50 years old.

Good luck to Trent hopefully you become a Bomber, Not a Saint :)
