Cannot see Harper lasting past Sydney at 21.

For me I am hoping we take Josh Caddy at 6 a goal kicker, tough midfielder. Then back this up with someone like Viv Michie or Luke Parker at 30.
Really do like Caddy, would defs take him at 6 if we could get a quality outside mid at 30 perhaps Michie or Prestia if he falls.

can I ask some of our more learned posters - maybe u, TFLAU - what seperates Heppall from Tape? (haven seen much of either but from wat I've read heppell maybe being a better kick)... Seeing as though most posters would spend pick 6 on Heppall and not on Tape when the way I see it they would be drafted for playing the same role.

I've been really busy for the past week - I'll just try and catch up on comments here now.

Heppell is much more of a midfielder than Tape has - and unlike Tape who's always been a KPP who had to develop an attacking side to his game - Heppell was an attacking flanker/midfielder with outstanding composure.

Heppell reads the play really well - and cuts off attacks better than Deledio did in 2010. His left foot is a real weapon - and he has the capacity to go in and get his own ball in the midfield - something that won't be expected of Tape.

Tape has the capacity to play on a lead up forward - or quite possibly a genuine KPF - which Heppell isn't tall/big enough to do.

Main issue regarding Tape - is he big enough to play as a KPP? Is his attacking side good enough to be a taller Mackie?

Definately is very left sided but can get reasonable distance on his right but not very natural. Did you watch the AFL vision or did you youtube his SANFL finals vision where he had 19 posessions in the first half? Very impressive that game until the second half where he disapeared. That's my main concern with him - that he could be one of those players who can tear up a side unmanned but when the pressure's on put up the white flag.

On a side note there is an impressive article on the age website about Atley.

Yeah - Polec's a burst player - but consistency will come as he improves his tank. Finals atmosphere isn't the easiest environment to play 4 consistent quarters in - so the fact he had 19 possessions in the first half under such pressure is a major plus.

A lot of talk from the journalists over here in Perth that the Eagles should be taking Polec rather than Gaff.

Trevor Woodhouse has confirmed it will be one or the other and most people here seem to feel it should be Polec.

I thought Gaff was set in stone before this weekend but we may well end up getting trumped by the Eagles on Polec.

Brisbane appear to be big fans of Heppell but I wonder which way they will go if Gaff is available.

Also did anyone see that Emma Quayle had Reece Conca as a potential pickup at pick 6 for us... right out of the blue, but as others have said - she is a fair judge on these things.

As i have mentioned in previous post, I have really come to like Polec but would be just as happy with Heppell.

If brisbane & westcoast take Heppell & Polec for me our pick would have to be 1 of either Atley or Lynch.
I personally cant see gaff in the richmond team, on another note TFLUA_tiger whats your opinion on emma not rating both mitchell & harper in the top 25.
also noticed that shifter hasn't included mitchell in his top 30 either.

I'm really hoping we get Harper with our first pick :thumbsu: - I believe he should be ranked in the top 5 when it comes to actual talent. He offers flexibility being a Fwd/Mid(eventually) which will become important with the reduced interchanges, and is something Richmond needs (a mid-sized crumbing Fwd to replace Troy Taylor when he eventually lands in prison; only semi-joking here ). He has an "X-Factor" similar to Didak or Stevie J. and looked amazing last year. An interrupted pre-season AND mid-season this year didn't help him at all, but he has more potential UPSIDE than most other mooted high picks.

I'm hoping Prestia :thumbsu: lasts till our second pick (realistic chance). Won't speculate on later picks as that's where it gets way too hard to predict who will be available.

I don't have Mitchell in my top 25 either. I'm not at all surprised.

Emma quayle is still pretty confident Reece Conca is going to be a surprise pick at #6!!!!!

Im not fussed because i actually rate Conca, but im not sure he's worth pick #6, is a solid midfielder and a "safe" pick IMO, he will be a good AFL player!

Should we start to expect him at #6 or still stick with Polec at #6?

If we knew Harper would be there at 30, I'd be delighted with Atley at 6.

Yes, I know those assurances are unavailable....

Have to trust the recruiters I guess, but would be a tad nervous about the #6 curse continuing if we went left field with our first pick.

Tape or Conca would surely constitute left field, for that selection.

Just looking at Concas video he does look pretty good and he certainly ties in with the rumour that was going around about us taking a 185cm mid from interstate.

I really don't think we will take a mid for our first with basically Grigg, Houli, Foley, and to some extent, Contin (Hardwicks recent article suggest he may surprise) all basically new next season.

Talls also seem covered but it wouldnt hurt to get another.

Polec would be the preferred option being the outside runner but if hes gone, we may go for a smart half forward type like Harper, Farmer or Lamb?

Bit of a reach but we need a Didak Lecras type.

Personally hope we take a slight risk this year with pick 6 unless heppel is there.

Also what draft watchers(TFLUA) what is Cook like in defence?

This is probably silly, but something inside me says that if we take Polec over Lynch, it could end up very similar to taking Fiora over Pav. Polecs credentials are very similar to what Fioras were. And Lynch is similar to Pav i reckon. Just my 2 cents

Polec's great if you like Clinton Young - except that Polec can only kick long looping floaters on the left ... Mark my words, we WILL take Harper :D

from what i read of what she said on twitter, she still believes polec for pick 6, followed by tape and conca. so seems like polec is still the one

The Age again going with Conca at pick 6.... Nothing definitive and not an EQ article, but certainly a hot story.

I doubt/hope we wouldn't go for a "shock pick" like a Tape or Conca type if one of Gaff/Heppell or Polec are there at our pick which they should be. Yes, the draft is even but they would be pretty big reaches. Don't need to get cute with pick 6, we can't afford any more stuff ups with first-round picks in this stage of our development.

Can someone opine as to whether (and why) Atley would be a bad idea at pick 6?

Kicking is pretty average.
