All sources here in the west are saying Gaff to West Coast is a done deal.

They need someone who consistently wins the ball and they have settled on him. I think Matty Lloyd is correct on that one.

Mind you stranger things have happened... By no means am I making a statement or anything just passing on what is being said by people in the know here.

Perth is small, word on these things travels fast.

Our first pick will come out of heppel, gaff or polec. I suppose it depends who west coast and the lions select and I’m not sure who our preference is, however I know it will be 1 of those 3. This was highlighted at a club function last week.

As soon as work ethic is mentioned (Bennell) I say run a mile, to me he looks like the biggest potential 'bust' of the top picks.

Heppell likens himself to Josh Drummond... PASS - Don't need loose half backs who don't shake tags.

That means we get the player that can run, win his own ball, has defensive potential, has a big frame for a mid and has a ferocious hunger for the footy.

Richo trust me, he is no unaccountable soft HBF. He played there this season because of an injury interupted pre-season (shin splits). He knows how to shut down his man as well as how to set up a counterattack. The guy is a CLASS midfielder who can play inside and out. His decision making and skills are AFL level. I would take him at 3 yet alone at 6.

With Bennell, do you think he reminds us Tigers supporters of Richie so we maybe are more wary?

Dosent really matter. He wont be there at our pick for us to have to worry about it

Definitley the case I think.

I would pick him up but he definitley has that Richiesk qualities...OR STEPHEN HILLE.

Cannot not draft indigenous kids because of 1 that didn't come through.

I agree although i think we have had a few drafted high that haven't come on. I would not use a super high pick on one personally as there is more associated risk then other draftees I think.

Good.

Hopefully it's Heppell but not really bothered either way. Would be happy with any of those 3.

PRE are saying we might take Reece Conca at 6.

Seems to be something Quayle is floating, but she's floating everything, sunken ships are being brought up from the oceanic floor - she has 30 different players possibly going to the GC. Not saying it won't happen, who knows. It doesn't seem like the best scenario available to us though.

I read on BF somewhere that the Lions have gone off Hepp a little due to a potentially dodgy groin. Anyone know anything about this? I reckon Heppell would become a real general for us on the field, he really controlled games for Country.

Oh God help us...

2008: Chris Yarran to Carlton from Swan Districts (WA) - 22 games.
2009: Gary Rohan to Sydney from Geelong Falcons under 18s - 9 games.

Generally speaking, what a list of nuff-nuffs.

Are we doomed? :o

Wow thats depressing. Salopek would be handy minus all the injuries. Lets hope we can change the trend around

Yeah, and hopefully Gary Rohan helped to break the hoodoo. I think he'll be ok, but with Roos gone, who knows.

Its pretty amasing really that there havent been more solid players at this relatively high pick. A few smokies chosen perhaps outside the usual top 2 or 3

i think the problem pick 6 has is that usually the top line talent is gone, and rather than go for the best of the "solid" players, club get seduced by the "potential" and the desire to get that top line talent (that they were so close to getting had they been a pic kor so higher).

If you look at the list of guys taken at #6 (especially sinec about 2000), most are that high risk, high reward type. Unfortunately most have failed for one reason or another.

Perhaps we should continue with the high risk and hope that the law of averages helps us ....

Personally i would prefer us take the more safe better (such as Caddy or Gaff if either are available) rather than what i would consider the more risky options such as Polec.

Caddy or Gaff would be my two men for pick 6. Perhaps neither will be game breaking stars, but most are highly likely to have long AFL careers, be solid above average AFL citizens and be crucial to a successful team.

Considering there has been so much success with pick no. 7

Do people think Polec is risky just because he has some flair?

The guy is a hard runner and has been playing SANFL senior footy and at times dominating. I would think the kids that are yet to play against seniors including AFL listed players are the higher risk....crazy idea I know!

Yeah I pretty much agree with this, not that I know a whole lot about him.

I think some people have pigeon-holed him to an extent, as a player who flashes in and out of games. I'd have thought that was more the Kieran Harper profile.

Couldnt agree more. Polec in my eyes is a more sure bet than the other lads. Hes been playing v Men for the last 12 months successfully. Only have to go back to our 4th pick a few years back. Absolute gun junior midfielder just couldnt take that next step. Polec has taken the step and proved he can mix it with the bigger sized bodies.

End of the day im happy with Polec, Heppell or Gaff anyone else is a risk in my eyes and ive stated before i dont think we are in the position to take risks.
