i have no problem with taking gorringe, because from all reports he is just as likely to become a gun chf as he is a ruckman & the same goes for vickery ff

the way the game is going specially with the interchange limitations , i dont think any team will go into games with 2 ruckman that cant fill other needs

as collingwood has shown this year going for brown ahead of wood & fraser could be the way of the future & the unpredictability guys like gorringe & vickery will provide along with even griffiths who is also ruck height.

gorringe, vickery, griffiths along with browne (i have huge expectations on this kid) could all be part of our ruck/foward structure for many years to come.

the first 3 along with jack rotate through our foward structure & help out browne in the ruck.................... which means graham will be surplus to our needs & trade bait in 1-2 years but which time browne, vickery would of passed him by.

Just looking at one of the phantom drafts on Big Footy and one blogger thinks Richmond will take Dyson Heppell.
Looked at his bio & apart from being another half back flanker (which we have a surplus atm) could evolve into a outside midfielder with a booming & damaging kick!
Thoughts?

yesterday out of sheer boredom and a hangover was vegging in front of the box and watched that TAC stars show. Dont think he is going to make it through to us dude. If he does he is a beauty his left peg is a lethal, but the one that they tipped to fall to us aint to shabby either, Tom Lynch.
Watching whats on offer, there is no way known that we will do away with our first pick in the draft, they would be mad to IMO. ;)

So you wouldn't take him with our first pick then? Are Gaff, Atley that good we cant look over them..... Only asking because I don't follow much TAC cup action or victoria state footy!

Can anyone give a comparison of Dyson Heppell and Tom Lynch in the afl for me?

I would but so would others before us. If he fell to our pick, the tiger brains trust would be high fiving each other. I dont follow the TAC action much dude, just cottoned onto that sunday show and can only form an opinion on what was shown there. So if all the cards fell like they suggest, the one they are tipping to be available at our pick, Tom Lynch, is not to shabby a pick either. ;)

Hopefully those Coasters don't read this:

MATCH REPORT: OAKLEIGH CHARGERS VS. GIPPSLAND POWER

The Chargers were in front for most of the game before the Power mounted a major comeback, on the back of the superb form of joint Morrish Medallist Dyson Heppell.

Heppell singlehandedly dragged his team over the line with 40 possessions, 12 handball receives, nine clearances and 11 inside 50s as the Power won a thriller 14.20. (103) to 14.9 (93).

Gippsland coach Damian Carroll was amazed by Heppell’s performance.

“I felt as though he picked up the group and brought them over the line and that’s a credit to him as a player and he’s just so competitive and it shows what a selfless person he is,” Carroll said.

Heppell’s ball use and his ability to win the ball on the ground (nine hardball gets) and in the air (eight marks) will more than likely stamp him as a potential first round draft pick.

The next best possession winner for Gippsland was Dale Hoghton with 20.

Look forward to seeing him play in the GF this sunday at etihad. IF I can get work off!

its going to take a miracle for heppell to fall to us if his performance this weekend resembles anything of last weeks performance.

Maybe we can word him up that we will take him at pick 6 if he does really bad at draft camp ;) That is the only way the young man can stay in Melbourne ;)

Has this Heppell just come out of no where to be in contention for a top 6 pick? I guess there's always bolters every year. Not terribly bad news for us, means that one of Atley/Gaff, etc is assured at our pick.

If we can find a capable, classy player to play HBF in this draft to release Deledio back into the midfield that would be good. Maybe Dea or Webberly will fill a role back there? Think we need Lids class back in the middle though, I prefer him there. Also I see Connors being able to form a good partnership with Edwards on the wings long-term. Both suit the position to a tee and will be good players.

Also possibly if we pick up a player such as Atley this year we could ease him into it back there instead of having to throw him into the guts straight off the bat. That's what Geelong did anyways, drafted a lot of midfielders and thus had the luxury to push a few out to the flanks.

Connors IMO is currently not good enough to be a winger. That doesn't mean he cant be. He needs to improve his disposal on his weaker side to keep the opposition guessing otherwise he is just another Tivendale remark in a different generation. At the end of the day the ball is in Connors court about how hard he is willing to develop his game. He isn't a Steve J because he has a different body shape but that doesn't mean he can't be VERY GOOD PLAYER if he wants to be!!

Both Edwards and Connors need to round out their games but what players on our list don't? Only a select few. I think both at the very least will be decent players. I see them as similar players. Both can find the ball, both very evasive, both have flair and try to make the play happen. Both can chop the ball up sometimes and have a tendency to do too much with it instead of picking the first option.

I'd have both on the wings starting next year.

i believe connors will become a very very good player for the tigers, under the previous regime he wasnt developed with disipline & left to his own because they didnt want to stunt his talent BUT he went of the rails.

his 1st year under hardwick & co already a massive improvement that will become even better next year

its no coincidence that collins, edwards, riewoldt, morton even gourdis have all improved alot more than at anytime under wallace & clowns

I think Connors probably should stick to the halfback line for the moment. I think the wingers are critical positions in any strong team. I can see Lids playing on one wing at times throughout the game particularly if we can find someone similar as effective but not as brillant as lids to be wasted a little in the backline. I am sure a quality, classy speedy winger will pop up at some point whether via the draft or a trade. I am not sure Connors is quick enough to be on the wing to put it bluntly and he may be better served helping the back group out in the quarterback role at times with other players sharing this attacking function

Has anyone been looking at the phantom draft section of Big Footy. A couple bloggers think that Heppell will fall to us.
Do we take him at no 6 or go for Gaff or Atley?..... Just looking at his highlights he looks like the player Hardwick said we need to recruit. Praying that GC don't pick him up at no 5!

Jackson Sketcher, co-captain of Sandringham Dragons U18 TAC team and co-Morrish medal winner this year... I just recently found out plays cricket with a co-worker, and they go running together now and then.

I was told last week he had been interviewed recently by Port and WC, maybe some others. Then my mate from work mentioned today (after going for a run with him last night) that Richmond had also interviewed him, late last week I think.

Now I know nothing of this kid, if/where he is likely to go in the draft etc. But it was great to hear that he was really keen on being drafted by the Tigers. Very impressed with their interviewing and loves the thought of playing along side our host of young guns. Apparently he really talked us up.

Just a bit of a good news story for the Tiges :thumbsu:

Heppell was a co-winner of the Morrish Medal, so obviously had a good year all round in the TAC cup. Not sure how he went in Nationals, assuming he played.

Heppell shaping as high draft pick

EDIT: played Nationals for Vic Country... MVP Heppell leads medium defenders

I am warming to the notion of atley. Sounds like he made of the right stuff and could be Another a grade cog mid for a dozen years. Heppel looks gone.

Pity polec and gorriage are from south Australia

I expect Atley and Polec to test much better athletically than Heppell. Also Atley missed the the last round and first final of the bushrangers games in the TAC due to a fractured finger. His consistency across the entire season (best on ground in numerous games) should not be discounted.

That and Polec polled 7 votes in 7 games in the SANFL best and fairest (one game 3 votes, two games 2 votes)

It is still wide open at this stage in my book.

What's wrong with Polec and Gorringe being from SA?
