Of course, it wasn't meant as a dig by any means. Webberley was a good get, Martin and Griffiths were straight forward though but it's more the Dea, Nason and Webberley picks that we were really impressed with, as well as some of our rookie picks (although RR didn't work out). I really hope we continue this path.

Hmmm - i don't think Dea escaped many radars - he certainly had a lot of potential.

Nason of course came from no-where.

I imagine we'd have more of a national presence again this year - but draft watchers have been unearthing more smokies this year as they look at kids from lower levels.

That's what I love about our recruiters as they tend to be a bit left of field or think outside the square with some of their picks which makes them hard to predict. Really looking forward to what we come up with come draft day.

Why do you say we won't be taking Heppel even if available tisg2010? I like the look of Harper a lot... Pitt is a bit of a rake though. He's about 2 or 3 cm shorter than me and around the same weight, and I'm considered a rake in normal society, let alone compared to AFL players. I'm sick of drafting rakes. Pitt will get snapped in half. If Caddy can't kick, forget about it.

.

His 2010 U18 Championships footage looked as good as any to me! Fast, skillful, can keep with both feet and he moves like a quicker version of Pendlebury. :thumbsu:

Just remember, Harper is My Boy.;) I watched that game live and I called him straight away. Seems we're either getting Harper or Pitt with pick 6. Either would add class, but Harper is a real game breaker.

Looks like they would be reaches at pick 6. Maybe we're trying for our very own Stephen Hill type selection that surprises many but their upside is too massive to ignore. What makes you think we're getting either Harper or Pitt?

Very small sample size (youtube vids) that could have skewed me wrong but . . . .

I don't like the way Polec gets the footy and just bombs it to no one. That might work in junior footy but it doesn't at the top level. He'd a turnover merchant.

Harper meanwhile lifts his eyes and looks at the play coming at him before making a call and delivers the football with a nice style. I like him a lot.

Lynch needs a lot of work getting size. We don't need his type.

It's really pretty even from pick 4 through to 30-odd, so you go with the player you like most. It's all about what a player can bring to the table at AFL level, not necessarily what he's done in juniors. As Toady said, Harper had a very impressive 2009 season, when he was an AIS member, and he has that massive upside. Pitt is a class act. Both fit the profile according to tigs2010, so that's what I'm basing my call on.

PHX I reckon you are right abot Polec. Don't want him.

Am starting to come around to Harper. Have thought that 6 was a reach but he is dual sided and creative. Loved his long goal on the run from 50. 78kg and 187 isn't bad size for someone his age. He likens himself to Bob Murphy and his skills, agility and over head ability are in a similar bracket but reckon if he could build his tank he could be a little like Dale Thomas and spend time on the wing.

I've been all over the place this draft period. It's tough this year at 6 but I think the skill and creativity of Harper are a package that we obviously need.

Atley or Harper for mine.

Both look very exciting, good disposers of the ball and just look at have a lot of class about them.

And he's a RICHMOND SUPPORTER!!!!!!

If highlight reels could kill, Harper's would be 007

as was Alex Gilmour.

But yep, that game at skilled was gold. 60m kicks, big shepherds. good run and tackle.

I see he's rarely rated as top 10, though. I understand the reaching argument, but on what I've seen would be excited to have him with us. No chance of getting to R2 I'm guessing?

Just a question reagarding the PSD. Are there any decent uncontracted players left? If not, then it may be best if Houli goes into that draft rather than the ND.

Houli to PSD is the least risky option. Dimma is very keen, so I'd expect that to be the chosen route

I have - and I like him - but not for a top ten pick.

He ticks most of the boxes - in fact - all but one.

He's tough, aware, clean, a good decision maker and a good contested mark; but his kicking just doesn't cut the mustard.

You're right that's it not it's not a technical problem - but his technique becomes sloppy and his disposal misses targets when he's rushed. The time he has to execute his skills becomes shorter in the AFL - and I'm not sure how much improvement he has there.

Somone made a Watson comparison, and they're right - developing like Jobe is his most likely method to become a gun.

To me the box he doesn't tick is the biggest box of all.

People will talk about him going forward - but he's a midfielder - sure he's good overhead and can kick a goal - but he'll not play as a forward at AFL. It's a bonus - you won't elevate him to top 10 because he has a second string.

I don't understand how he's much better than Wallis?

fair call, you would know more then all of us, so ill take your word.

im normally against players who cant kick, and even more so in todays game.

caddy's type if far from our biggest need, and his type is probably not the hardest to find, but i dont know, there is just something about him that makes me think he will be a star.

just another question TFLUA, what is your take on polec's competitiveness, hunger, second efforts, defensive side of his game and ability to stand up when the game is in the balance.

he screams young from hawthorn to me, who is clearly a classy player and very effective when on his game, but goes missing for large parts of the game also.

I can't see us taking Harper at 6, that game against WA he had something like 10 touches for 8 shots on goal. Not a big enough work rate, and not the type of player we can afford to be taking at pick 6. I think we need someone that we can build around rather than someone so speculative.

I appreciate you have a source tigs but I would think if Heppell or Gaff are still around at 6 we would take them in a heartbeat. I'm not sold on Lynch, but Atley/Caddy/Polec all have some serious question marks so it doesn't make it very clear cut. Would prefer a mid.

it will be a mid so should all be ok. he fits the criteria that dimma obviously wants. so will obviously have good skills etc.

Im more and more starting to warm to Harper. Supposedly has that bit of X factor about him. I remember Collingwood reaching for Daisy at number 2 a few years ago and he was arguably the best player for the premiership team. Hes come on in leaps and bounds this year.

We are crying out for goal kickers and stated that we are also after an outside midfielder. So if hes a skillful goal kicking midfielder then id say he fits the bill perfectly.

Im A LOT more confident with our recruiting team now compared to 3-4 years ago that they will make the right decision for our footy club. I just cant see a JON mistake happening again. After all we have had reports that outside the top 4 the 5-30 range there isnt much between them.

Personally its Harper or Caddy for me. Really liked the footage of Caddy and seems to be a Dimma type of player. Have heard we have plenty of footage of our potential draftee ready to be posted once selected so will wait with baited breath.

Who's your source tigs? I hope you're not another try hard like DT just seeking attention.

If not Heppell, it will be Caddy or Harper. We should also grab Ben Jacobs or Dion Prestia with our 2nd Pick and use the next couple on the best talls available. I'd grab Darcy Bardon if available with one of those picks.

Quote from TAC Cup: This week marked the beginning of Greater Western Sydney’s path to the AFL when they hosted the Northern Knights at Blacktown however they did not get the result they where looking for with the Knights running away to win by 94 points. The Knights out scored the Sydney side in each quarter taking a six goal lead into half time and then kicking 14 goals to 5 after half time.

Darcy Bardon had a standout game up forward for the Knights taking 17 marks including 9 contested and kicking 6 goals. It could have been even better for Darcy as missed a few goals and should have finished with 8 or 9.
