Hey TFLUA, just wondering if you have any opinions about the following players:

Anton Hamp
Aaron Young
Arryn Siposs
Daniel Farmer
Alex Fasolo
Jon Ceglar

The first 5 are all midsized types I've taken a liking to based on the small bit on info mentioned on the AFL site, while Ceglar is a young ruckman I've liked for most of the season and if we were to look at a possible 4th young ruck he would be the one I wouldn't mind as I don't believe he would be a player we'd have to use an early pick on

Also TFLUA I'm interested to hear how you rate Harper in the scheme of things?

I really rate Harper in what i have seen of him. One of the main reasons I would like to see the Tigers trade someone to pick up a pick in the 14-15 range, hoping that he is still around. We have depth in our list but need to add the quality and admittedly your less of a chance to get that quality at picks 30+ in a diluted draft. Therefore, realistically we will only add 1, maybe 2 quality players in this draft..

polec is one of the only players i didnt really take much notice of in the champs as i hadnt heard as much about him as i did other players, so cant knock the player.

as for gaff, ill be happy if we pick him up, the only real problem i have is his size, our midfield needs more big bodies, particularly when foley returns.

I think the point is we aren't that tall on the flanks with guys like White, Nason, Edwards, Farmer, King. Won't hurt us to have some good sized midfielders who will rotate throught the flanks/wing.

A "top 25" list has been added to the AFL website although there are quite a few who didn't make the cut which shows that we will be able to get another quality kid with our 2nd pick.

I especially like the description of Polec

Jared Polec (12 October 1992, 188cm, 77kg, South Australia): Wingman with the cherished ability to break out of a pack, run 20 metres and kick 60, more often than not with precision. Played well with Woodville-West Torrens seniors in the 2009 finals as a 16-year-old. No reason he can’t do it again.

Who wouldn't want that in their team? good job TFLUA.

Interesting also that Atley's kicking is decribed as
good but not in the elite class.

The clubs would have to trade players and or pick to get these 1-15 high/low picks depending on how you term it.

I had a look at Darling on the video and I didn't like his agility, I thought he might be better than from what i saw given the hype. Then again when I saw Taylor on the weekend who will be a player for us going forward ,a likely half forward, Darling would be a nice complement with Taylor and a Key half forward with Jack leading from deep.

To early at this stage . I think the bulk of the quality players I have seen on the video go to around 12 but everyone has differing opinions. We have other needs as well so I can reasonably see us not picking Darling, As I said it is too early but there is some quality out there

I beleive if we dont have the opportunity to pick Gorringe Or Day then we should make K . Harper our prority his upside, his X factor and his Class provides a presence on the field that players like Didak and S.Johnson have for players of there size, he is a player worth Targetting, his footskills are quality his has leg speed and can play outside mid feild with ease and his over head marking is very strong, he chases and he is a good tackler, he has all the skills required.

There are no players like him lower in the draft but Mid feilders come all the time and there are some good ones around with our 2nd rd pick in particular out side mids which is what we are looking for.

and finally i would would trade pick 6 and Tambling and Nahas for pick 4 and pick 27(pp). or if they say no then forget pick27 and just upgrade pick 28 for 26.

Good post DT and I agree to an extent.

If we can get one of Polec, Harper or Atley with our first pick and someone like Green or Prestia with our 2nd it will put our midfield in very good stead for the next 5 years.

1 - I have been pumping up Harper for a while and am a big advocate in trading to secure his services. I would be asking the GC what they would require for Pick #12 and whether someone like Alex Rance would cut it for that pick. (Don't wanna get rid of him but someone who would have value but a type we have in abundance. Pick #19 when we got him, a couple of years of development etc.)

2- Pick 6, Tambling and Nahas for Pick 4 and a 2nd round upgrade? We are not Fremantle and I don't like getting r*ped. There is no value add for Richmond in that deal. There is genuinely a top 3 (Swallow, Bennell and Day). If Day is to slide he will slide to first Vic or Adel club available not to pick 4. Therefore, we get nothing extra from pick 4 than we would get at 6. Atley and Gaff are not on the same level that you would depart with Bling and Robin for him...

Yeah there is not going to be much of a difference between pick 4 and 6 certainly not enough to get rid of Tambling who if when uninjured returns to his 09 form is worth a first round pick, plus Nahas as well who would have some form of trade value....maybe 3rd round.

Just looking at the Ladder .

We need to pick a mid of some sort at pick 6 for mine. I am not sold on outside/inside a combination may suit. Not sold because we can get outside mids in later drafts and trades with relative ease due to the statistical supply.Essendon have the next pick (exc GC)they will probably pick a mid due to their list.

If we can trade for pick 10 from Bris or GC 11 we can get another mid we are are chasing or a tall which could slip due to list requirements.

That is the way I would be playing it at the moment. This may change depending on trades

My take is the only guy we've got to trade who MIGHT have first round currency is Foley. Even then I'm not sure anyone but GC would be interested and they'd want to know his ankle is right.

Foley to GC for about pick 10? You might think about it? To some degree he's probably a bit 'outside' the main group from this year just because he hasn't played.

This time of year draft picks are overvalued.

Probably right about the 1st round currency, although I think Rance would be worth a late 1st round which this year is in the early 20's for finals teams.

Trading Foley is complete madness though.
He is a gun player when fit. Nobody will take him if his body isn't right.
Foley is our Dane Swan type of player, no frills workhorse. Not at Swan's level, but when fit he won't be a mile away.

A pick 10 in a compromised draft is speculative. JON was pick 8. Nobody said we were mad picking him at the time (only years later).

If pick 10 becomes a better player than Foley I will be surprised.

Actually, plenty said we were mad picking JON.

As I recall a bit of a shock/sigh hit the room when the other clubs heard who we picked.

True it is compromised but the players are only as good as they look and perform. I was surprised from what I saw on the videos.

At the end of the day if the word is true that GC are heavy in Ablett and Pav as well as Brown etc.. on top of the players 17 year olds and lower picks , assume they get Day they may be able to win a premiership by 2012 or 2013.
This would make sense when they chased ages of bock etc.. That means our older players could be in play as well as our second round pick for say 9, 15 or 11, 13.

The thing is GC may make a play for fev in coming years to pinch hit the premiership so if they get 8 ready play players, so they are targeting, plus at least 11 quality youngsters 1,2,3,5,7 plus 17 year olds they will be a force in 3 years if not 2 years.

The other thing is if we trade our older players to GC it advances them as well as us because it makes them more competitive and allows us to build a a slower pace in the next few years ladder wise but increases the chance for us to have premiership success in 6 years. This isn't a problem for GC due to the concessions they have plus the fact they are looking to make a quick impact from a QLD market penetration perspective. So they get the market bonus of quick success plus a premiership success in 3 years before GWS come into vogue as well as Melb and others

Agree.

Trade for picks but imo I would keep Foley. He is still young and is an absolute gun when up and running. He will be back and add to our fab four mids..

Thanks for making sure Jacobs was selected TV - it was one of him, Mitchell and Green for me - with me taking Green if he was there.

I'll write him up tonight.
