Whats your take on Pat?

Where do you think he will go in the draft?

I'm a real fan. He's a lead up tall/third forward, who's really athletic and good in the air. He kicks the ball nicely - and is equally as good off the ground as he is in the air.

Tackling is really good, and he always assesses situations and finds the right option. Like his football brain. He's one of those guys who's dangerous when the ball is in his near vicinity.

Needs to get fit. I like him overhead - but he tends to take a lot of two-touch marks, I'd be looking at limiting those two-touch marks.

I think he'll go top 30 pretty comfortably - certainly not as low as he lasted in the BF mock.

Thanks for the feedback.

From what I hear he is on Richmonds radar.

Yeah - I really like him.

A lot to work with.

Off topic GTF - which club did you play for this season?

Just played for my school, was injured for the majority of the year. Probably play VAFA next year. He was my captain last year, so I'm a little biased when it comes to Viv, but I do think he has the tools required in the modern AFL environment.

On Karnezis - played against him a few times and your description is very accurate. Always lacked fitness. Even in juniors he stayed at one end of the ground and never forayed into the middle.

Thanks CopThat. Checked that page immediately after i posted. He averaged 10 touches a game during the champs and doesn't look to be a great kick (although not bad). Despite testing well looks like a third rounder and beyond although obviously those who have seen him play would have more of an idea.

Joel Wilkenson and Brad Harvey broke Daniel Pearce's 20m sprint record today

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/103400/default.aspx

Not sure that Wilkenson will last to our second pick but Harvey might. Haven't heard anything about him though. Anybody got any info on him.
Interesting to see that Gaff finished in 8th for the 20m sprint with a time of 2.88. IIRC the knock on him was that he was slow, so much for that. Also I believe that number is pretty close to the number that Martin put up last year at camp as well.

2.88 is quick. That's great news for the kid and for us. Makes it more difficult for us to choose at pick 6 which can only be a good thing.

2.88 definately puts him right into calculations for top 6 which makes my wishlist order for pick 6 as the only really nock on him was he was one paced

- Heppel
- Lynch - measured in at 199.1 - With Lynch, Griff 198, JR 195, and Taylor 189 we could potentially have the tallest, and yet athletic forward line in the competition
- Gaff
- Atley
and the bonus is that they are all Victorian

The more I think about it the more I wouldn't mind Gaff, ball winner who runs all day and now the bonus of a bit of speed.

My knock on Gaff is the hurt factor of his disposals. he'll rack up 30+ disopsals in a game and his side could lose by 30 points and be far from best on ground.

When Heppell can get 30+ touches in a game he is tearing the game to pieces and can drag his team over the line.

I would have thought that Gaffs ability to win possessions would be of more use for us at the moment than adding a player who seems to need the ball fed to them.

Heppell doesn't need the ball fed to him. Wins a mountain of it. I'd back him one-on-one against Gaff.

Wasn't talking about Heppell as I don't think he will be around for our pick.

Heppell is just as likely to be around at our pick as Gaff is. West Coast has apparently been keen on Gaff for a long time, so his test results will reinforce their interest.

Who were you talking about then? Atley wins his own ball more than Gaff does, so does Caddy, Polec is easily his equal in this regard (and his better in others IMO) and Lynch is a contested marking forward. No one I can see as being in the mix for pick 6 needs the ball fed to him, or he wouldn't be rated that high. So who were you talking about?

As I obviously have next to no clue when it comes to the kids in the years draft pool I'll just stop discussing them, until I've had a chance to read up about them a bit more. :o

they were saying gaff is a lock for top 5 after his 20m sprint time, he is certainly going to test well for the beep test and should go alright with the kicking test.

hopefully he performs well and west coast pick him.

then our only concern is gold coast taking heppel at 5.

I really hope we can snag Heppel at 6, it seems unlikely now but hopefully other kids keep performing strongly at the combine and seduce West Coast and GCS

If Heppell and Gaff are gone by pick 6 then I think we will pick one of Gorringe or Lynch. Apart from Day they are the two standout talls in this years draft.

Heppell or Atley at 6 for me.

If we want to go big then Lynch over Gorringe any day of the week for mine.

I agree with this assessment from what I've seen. Maybe someone will do something stupid and give us pick 4 for Bling and Rance!!!;)

I wonder if the recruiting staff are willing to pull the trigger on Atley. He doesn't fit the kicking criteria we've apparently set, but every other part of his game is top notch.
