anyone think it would be bad to go harper/lamb with pick 6? we realy need to ungrade our hff and with picking grigg and most likely houli we have a number of mids, foley coming back is pretty much a new recruit. we need a x factor player like milne, johnson, chapman type and i reckon harper and lamb would be very good

I would be amazed if we don't. Given Gale's involvement in free agency negotiations, plus Hartley and the bare minimum salary cap, we're well placed to pick up a genuine gun.

Agree about going tall this draft. If we can upgrade our compo pick to another pick in the top 15, I would be very comfortable going Lynch at 6 and Harper/Parker or whoever at 15. I'd favour Seb Tape if he's around for our second rounder but otherwise there'll be some good mids, possibly Green, Prestia or Fasolo. Or Issac Smith.

If we trade McGuane + Bock pick to GC for 15 & 47 (ish), we'll go to the draft with 6, 15, 33 (ish), 47 (ish), 50 (ish), 54 (ish). Someone good will slip to those later picks, so I'm confident we can have another good draft. Getting that extra top-15 pick could make it very good though.

On the above highlighted points...
- Free Agency: Agreed that we will pick up a genuine gun. IIRC 2012 is when free agency is introduced and I know the Tigers are all over this and that there will be sufficient cap space..

- Upgrading the compo pick to 15... Can't see this happening. I can only see us getting Houli in the PSD and maybe trading out Thursty for a pick ~45... GC have plenty of backs now, so I don't think they will be interested in McGuane.. (Although I would LOVE to have a pick around 15 to try and get Harper)..

- Seb Tape... I really want him to come to the Tigers for his leadership abilities and defending abilities, however, I don't know if he fits our needs... Especially not, if we go tall with Pick 6.

The way I see the draft going:
GC#1 Swallow
CG#2 Bennell
CG#3 Day
WCE#4 Gaff
Bris #5 Heppell
Our pick 6 ??????? Lynch, Polec, Gorringe, Atley??
I think we should go tall, as we are essentially going to get the 2nd best tall in the draft behind Day, whereas, we are looking at the 5th best mid.

Our genuine Key Position Talls (Capable of holding down FB,CHB,CHF,FF) are currently; Riewoldt, Griffiths, Astbury, Gourdis, Post... (McGuane, Rance, Moore etc are not genuine talls or talented enough to play these position in a side in the 8)
Therefore,
FF: Riewoldt
CHF: Griffiths/Post
CHB: Astbury/Post
FB: Gourdis
We do not have any depth in these positions. If Griffiths shoulder's never come good, we essentially have to play Post at CHF... Therefore, I think by adding Lynch as another genuine key forward to the list we are covering our spine which is very important. Also, allows us to play a forward line with 3 talls in Riewoldt, Griff, Lynch..

On the other hand, our mids need to add some more genuine class and depth, however, in saying that this will probably come with free agency, our 2nd pick, 1st round next year and compo pick in 2012. Currently, there is Cotchin, Martin, Foley, Jackson, Edwards, Morton, Tuck, Deledio etc who can go through the middle in stints...

Therefore, I think with Pick 6 we should go with Lynch as he fits a need and has grown to 199cm as a KPF... Him, Vickery, Griffiths and Post together could take all rucking rotations in the future interchange capped game. Would be very interested in ToadVine and TFLUA-Tiger's views on the above and whether there will be a change in our drafting strategy from mid to tall??

yeah i agree, i can see us landing someone good in 2 or 3 years time, when players see us rising up the ladder with a young exciting list.

we dont have enough quality talls on the list, and you want talls before smalls because they take longer to develop.

finding a gun chf would be ideal, but if we look at geelong and collingwood, neither have a real gun key foward.

so i guess it can work both ways. what i think is certain is we need to improve our foward line, and make sure it is not one dimensional.

adding lynch would mean we have griffiths and lynch competing for that chf position, in addition to vickery if he is played as a foward. its a shame griffiths has all those shoulder injuries, because he certainly has the height to play as a ruck and his mobility and versitility would be handy with the new interchange rules.

it will be interesting to see who we go with.

Depends where the club sees griffiths, either as a full forward or CHF as a few people on here see him more as a full forward.

Feel this guy if he were to come to the club would take over rances/moores spot while doing a better job would offer more on the offence while having very good defence.

Also apparently essedon want gorringe at 8.

We do need some more options/class up forward badly.

To put in perspective, the guy who came 2nd in our goal kicking finished with only 15 goals and he was just traded off. Riewoldt lone hand.

I like the look of Harper. Problem is 6 sounds like a reach for him and we don't have a pick in the teens where he will likely go. Will be interesting to see what we do.

Well thought out Azzleberry. I would not be surprised if we went tall with pick 6 this draft for the reasons you have outlined although I wouldn't plan on rotating all of Lynch, Vickery, Griff and Post through the ruck. Still think need a genuine ruckman who can win hit outs.

I think Griff at FF, Lynch at CHF and JR roaming is a set up that could cause a lot of sides genuine headaches in the years to come. Kick it long to these guys and they'll either mark it or cause a spillage.

It seems a lot of people want Harper but we already have a very similar player on the list in Troy Taylor who performed really well in the under 18 carnival in 2009 and has shown real talent in his AFL appearances.

I think we've got time to recruit more quality mids after adding to our talls this year and this trade period has already shown we are an attractive club and our football department has it's finger on the pulse. Maybe a Shuey or a Hannebery will want to come home in a couple of years.

Surely Heppell will go at 4????
I like Atley with 6.
I would love Luke Mitchell with our 26 if we use it this year which I think we should.

The mail I had was WCE are really keen on Gaff (only worried about 'go home' factor - but think he is professional enough not to do that) and that Brisbane only secured pick 5 to ensure they picked up Heppell.... time will tell.

I would love Heppell.
But if that didn't happen, then I really like to sound of Atley.
What does everyone thnk of Atley being our pick 6?

With Grigg in the team we don't really need him, they're very similar types. I'd be looking at a Polec or Lynch now.

I think we still need to inject quality players into our midfield. Considering Heppell and Gaff will be gone I think my preference is Brodie Smith or Jarrod Polec...would be stoked with either.

Smith strong around the hips he breaks tackles and has explosive speed. He also is a long and generally pretty accurate kick. He has a good head on his shoulders and can play defensivley as well as offensivley.

The other one I would look at is Polec. Very good outside player who also gets a bit of inside ball. He has a raking left foot and is generally a good kick. every now and then he puts up a shcoker. Always on the end of shots on goal. Has absolutely no right side but a beautiful side step and finds space in traffic.

Atley for me doesn't have the skills of these two, plus they have both played senior football in the SANFL. Both need to add some serious kg's to their frames but would slot in rnd 1 2011. I would actually prefer both of these guys to Gaff.

no more (dan jackson is hopeless please ) or skinny kids real footballers thanks

Not the most accurate kicks so i would rather stay away though he is very good at breaking the lines.

Smith:good at breaking out of packs though i would question his kicking.

Polec:nice long kick with good evasive skills though sounds like a total w***er.

Caddy:also good at breaking out of packs but has the ability to do some real damage up forward is also a very good mark.

Parker:really hope his at our second pick as his alot like caddy yet a tad slower and smaller.

Prestia:can play inside and out and would fit perfectly in our midfield

Also would anyone be disappointed if we went with smedths with 6

if we dont go tall, and gaff and heppel are gone, i want caddy of those mentioned above.

atley is quick but his kicking and decision making are questionable, and i dont think he is a good finisher around goal either. so you cant really use him down back to bring the ball out, you cant play him up foward because he isnt good around goals, and in the middle we need more good users of the ball.

Yes Smith is a better player.

Has the higher accolades, more runs on the board and can play multiple positions.
In fact it would not surprise me if he went higher than 6. Has smarts and signs of high pedigree, Smedts though has talent, can't deny this.

I think trading for Essendons pick 8 is a real poosibility . The player quality in the mids drops off here which is what Essendon desperately need. We could use 8 for Gorringe or Lynch. I think it may suit Essendon as well after the Brennan trade but it is up to them

I have to say when I saw Polec in the vision nothing stood up and said pick me. If he is one sided forget it. I have issues with his overconfident language regarding the decisions he will make in terms of his preceived perceptions. With all the hype I was expecting more!!

The way he runs is what impresses me. He has a pretty good left shoe and always manages to get around onto it. His supposed arrogance is what would concern me. Would prefer Smith.

I really don't want Lynch I think he looks like a bit of a gump. Admittedly I have only seen highlights of him but he doesn't look to move as well as people have said. He looks a bit like a David Hale type. Would much prefer we draft a mid and then draft Luke Mitchell.

am i correct in saying that the compo pick we got from the crows, if we use it in 2012, it will come directly after adelaides first round pick?

Operation Jed Lamb at 6 if Heppell isn't available. :thumbsu:
