Zaydyn Lockwood takes out the B&F for the Pioneers tonight. Very well deserved. In his final six games he averaged 23 disposals, 6 marks, 6 tackles and 21 HOs per game. Clearances and intercept marks would've been substantive in these games as well.
Tom Evans ran a close second.
A particular 17 year old father-son came 3rd in the count.
Would that particular father son mind coming west if the rule changes come next year??

I’ve been thinking about this post for the last 40 minutes and it’s so true isn’t it?

Our spine was minimal and workmanlike with our only star talls being Cox and Glass. Everyone else was a role player.

It was a flawed team, but a beautiful team.
I think the 06 team gets criminally undersold due to how good the midfield was.
So many elite and versatile players that had played greater roles and different positions over the course of their careers. Held us in good stead.

While I don't disagree with you, the balance was incredibly wonky (and made for quite a unique and interesting team to watch). As Mr Q said it was a team full of midfielders who had to somewhat fill out those different positions you're talking about. This was our named forwardline for the 06 GF.

Literally 4 mids plus a CHF who played under 100 games and scored under 100 goals, and a very unique FF who was awesome to watch but certainly not as reliable an option as JK.

The players all made it work (as well as being so so fun to watch) but it was certainly an oddball balance for a lineup.

Lining up 2006 vs 2018, it's clear 2018 was the better overall team with far greater spread of talent, but the level of 2006 midfield clearly carried the team.

You could argue that the entire midfield group from 2006 man-for-man would've made the 2018 team.
Looking at the teams, probably Glass, Wirra & Waters are the only others I'd take into 2018.

FB: Selwood Glass Wirra
FB: Hurn Barrass Schofield
HB: Bones Hunter Waters
HB: Cole Gov Jetta
C: Braun Cousins Embley
C: Redden Yeo Masten
HF: Chick Hansen Stenglein
HF: Hutchings Darling LeCras
FF: Fletcher Lynch Rojo
FF: Rioli Kennedy Cripps
R: Cox Judd Kerr
R: Lycett Shuey Sheed
I: Armstrong Banfield Butler Seaby

Why does it seem that we keep finding reasons not to draft genuine mids?

Last year most people thought Sharp would be a great addition alongside Harley in this years draft and would go pick 1. Now that he's available at our pick, we lean towards Duursma and CDT.

Just make the obvious choice.

Gun mids win you finals, last night's game is proof of that. Adelaide have 1 gun mid in Dawson, the rest are B's and C's.

Brisbane will probably win the flag again with the best midfield in the comp.

We're of to a decent start, Harley is a superstar, Hewett is projecting to be an A grader, Gross has potential to be an A, Bo Allan (hopefully)

We need two more A's ideally, (Sharp, Cumming, Duursma, Grij) could be A graders. Warner in a couple years to complete the midfield.
C’mon mate Hewett, Gross, and Allan would at this stage all be C or D grade players based on output.
An A grader is Chris Judd at his peak.
I wish you were my teacher at school I would have killed it🤣

North are currently modelling their team on our 06 squad..could work

Yeah I agree with Hewett, has only been very flashy, dosent seem to get a lot of the ball.
Yes has missed a lot of footy.
Big season coming up for him after talking the talk a month ago.

Him and Ginbey drafted together, Ginbey had a lot of detractors but has had a breakout season.
Just need Hewey to follow

I really love the way Hewett goes about it, but he doesn’t seem to have the stamina/fitness to go hard as a midfielder for the whole game, hopefully that will come.
2026 is a very important year for him, hopefully injuries behind him and a huge pre season can get him the fitness required to improve.

Duursma/Sharp combo does seem to be the perfect balance for us.

The ‘we play a style that isn’t high possession’ kind of got debunked when McCarthy came in mid season and was regularly top few for possession.

We need a few guys who know how to find the ball 25+ times a game regularly

So when are we making that play for a crippled and broken Lachie Neale?

I'm not sure the comments on Bigfooty have a lot of influence on who we end up picking and I don't think our list management have said anything about who we will select.
As per most years players come on at differing times, why would you select someone based on last years data alone?

Agree mostly.

Yet 06 would beat the 18 team 10 times out 10 imo

You wouldn't.
Sharp has performed well at the champs and is still the best genuine mid available. Nothing has changed.

Freddy Rodriguez with 1.1 and only 11 disposals close to 3/4 time in the Colts final against East Freo. Seems to have really fallen off the pace after a suboptimal champs.

Meanwhile Freo’s underage NGA Lucas Robinson has 28 disposals 7 tackles and 0.2. They’d be spewing if they change the NGA/father son rules next year. What a shame…

Weird that they're pushing it so hard with Robinson a potential #1 next year, that's for sure.

Giving us a freebie as he started in our academy by mistake?

Nice of them.

I honestly believe Sharp will be there at Ports (suns) pick, Bitchmond don't need him either do Essendon, the priority would be to secure that pick from the Suns, so we could have all of Duursma, CDT and Sharp

It’s what their boss wants!
