Drafting Delisted Players

With the delisting of quite a few players from other clubs, are any worth drafting to strengthen the Crows list? The current delistings by club (excluding Adelaide) is as follows:

Brisbane: Robbins
Carlton: Backwell, Chatfield, Culpitt, Doering, Mathews, Vance, White
Collingwood: Baynes, Stone
Fremantle: Butler, Clancy, Fletcher, Wirra
Geelong: Houlihan, Lowther, J Mooney, McKay, Simpson
Hawthorn: Lord, Obst
Kangaroos: Calthorpe, Lassock, Spaull
Melbourne: Beams, Craig, O'Brien, Pitt
Port: Francis
Richmond: Haynes, James, Procter, Steinfort, Barker(R)
St Kilda: Delaney, Elliott, Walton, Young, Berry(R), Wittison(R)
Sydney: Bennett, Feast, Stevens, Piltz(R), White(R)
West Coast: Turnball
Western Bulldogs: Dooley, Fuller

Whilst most of these are duds & some I haven't even heard of before, I believe a few are worthy of another look - obviously for a later pick.

With the loss of both Vardy & Jarman, we could do with a small goal kicking forward. I reckon Adam Houlihan is a great talent, but obviously has a few problem off-field habbits. But if my memory serves me correctly, he played some good footy when Ayres was at Geelong. Reckon he would be would be worth a punt as he can play. Ditto with Aaron Lord, but I think he is a bit older. However, he probably has a few good years left in him.

Francis could also be worth a punt, but there is a whole thread devoted to him.

No one else who has been delisted, I believe is worth considering by the Crows. However, I wouldn't be suprised if other clubs show interest in the likes of Robbins, Doering, Vance, Fletcher & Bennett.

Check out the AFL website. Craig McRae may yet be a possibility.

The end of 2000 we were linked to Mcrae, I hope we can pick someone like him up, but it will seem hard as we have the 9th pick in the december draft.
I'd still rather have Francis, just to piss off the power supporters ;)

In my opinion, these players are worthy of perhaps being picked up by other clubs (obviously dependent on what their needs are at the time of the draft(s)).

Topjars, I wouldn't personally go after Fletcher, as he is more of a midfielder (which we have plenty of). Although I reckon another club such as Geelong could be interested in his services, particularly with Buddha retiring.

I believe we need small-medium goal kicking forwards. McRae would definetely be worth luring home if he is after a bit more cash. Houlihan & Lord could also be worth considering, but you would need to carefully look at their personal circumstances first.

Graham Cornes would wet himself if you could get McRae

Personally, I don't think we need either Fletcher, Houlihan or Lord on our list, they carry too much baggage and I don't believe their upside is large enough to warrant us recruiting them. McRae on the other hand could be very handy, if we were able to get him back to Adelaide. Otherwise I think we're better off continuing with our youth policy and go for more talented youngsters.

Ant, given our shortage of goal kicking small-medium forwards, why don't you think either Lord or Houlihan are worth considering? Particularly if they are warned about their off-field behaviour upfront. A change may be as good as a holiday.

I think we're pretty much covered Kane, with Bode, Ladhams, Welsh, Edwards and our other midfield types spending time up forward. I doubt Houlihan and Lord will make any significant impact at all and I wouldn't want to see us going for more recycled players. Just my opinion. :)

Ant, fair enough reasoning. However, I reckon we are short of small-medium forwards & another under the right circumstances would add to our goal-kicking options. Only time will tell what Reidy & Co are thinking...

What about Moorcroft? The crows could do worse than to draft him. I wouldn't want to be the opposition full-back with Burton and Moorcroft standing on my shoulders all day long.

I'd rather have Jarman than Burton & Moorcroft...big loss

I would prefer Jars too, as I was hoping he would go on another year. However, I think he can still have a positive influence on Crows in 2002 by improving the skills of a few players (eg. Perie) & hopefully taking over as forward coach from Micken.

Still reckon the Crows should strongly consider re-drafting a small-medium goal kicking foward such as McRae, Lord, Houlihan & Moorcroft. I think Lord is probably the pick of the bunch as he had a great 2000 (which McRae did also, but he is 29) - a year is a long time in footy! Moorcroft is a too inconsistent for my liking & Houlihan would only be worth a punt if he is going to take his footy seriously.

Definetely not interested in Cummings - he has two bung knees & is overweight. Would be suprised if anyone picks him up. Cupido might be worth a look though ...

Defently not interested in Cummings.

Hes turned from a coleman medallist to a dead set shocker.

We took the risk with Richo this year and it didnt work, plz AFC, dont even think about that fat hack!

We do need forwards though

If he can get his injuries right he will be ok

He is also a character!

That would be the main reason the Crows won't have him, heaven forbid, the Crows would never sign up a player who has character!

That's half the trouble, our guys are all too nice and bland. lol

Don't mind the fact that Cummings is a bit of a larrikan, but it doesn't get away from the fact the guy's knees are stuffed & he is finished as an AFL footballer.

Simon Cox is now available apparently due to salary cap restrictions.Given that he is from South Australia would you guys consider taking him he finished 9th in our best and fairest and IMO has the best disposal in the league. He also reads the play exceptionall well and is tall.;)
