Always been an advocate/fan of kids who have played senior footy prior to the draft, and apart from that I thought I would be excited to see Farren Ray come to the club. Sadly he was a fall guy for a poor season, and he's really only had a solid career rather than being an outright gun. Fortunately I had reservations on Stringer prior to the 2012 Draft eased thanks to a Mark Stevens tweet on the way to the airport (I watched the draft at the Convention Centre that year, I'm watching it again this year having missed last year deciding Cricket was more important) saying he had a taste of senior footy.

Mine is Tom Williams loved him :-(

I wanted Aish or Bonti

I wanted McCrae and Stringer :-)

I hated the Grant pic we..

Toumpas isn't a good player yet

Because he was drafted to Melbourne.

Have to laugh when people say "Geez, Melbourne must regret not picking up Wines over Toumpas".

Not say Wines is not a super player - he is - but the point is that if Melbourne had picked up Wines instead of Toumpas everyone would be saying the same thing i.e Wines has been disappointing, hasn't come on right, Melbourne should have picked up [Insert name of top young draftee who has developed well at another club]

How many of Melbourne's ultra high plum draft picks over the last 6-7 years are actually good players? The likes of Bonti, Macrae, Wines etc have already gone way past Trengrove, Grimes, Watts etc who have been in the system several more years, all because Melbourne can't develop right.

Hated the Stringer pick, knew other clubs wanted him but thought he'd just be another Jarrad Grant and not a Pavlich/Johnno type.

Wanted Scharenberg last year, thought it would be a great idea to have a Pavlich clone and a Goddard clone.

Good work Dalrymple, now prove me wrong again by getting a mosquito fleet/key defenders in instead of a key forward.

He is and will be, should not have let him go....

You guys are way overating him. Watched the Melbourne game replayed yesterday , he will do anything to avoid body contact. Dime a dozen footballer who had 5 years development put in him and still not good enough to cement a spot in a bottom team.

^^ this, added to the fact he has a brain the size of a pea and this reflects his decision making ability.

Initially I was a fan of O'Rourke and was slightly disappointed when we picked up Macrae, but it took about two games to realise we made the right choice.

I still think when he puts it all together he looks good, but it happens far to little. He panics far too much and his hands aren't the cleanest. Bit of a pity as we really need some pace and player's who can hit the scoreboard.

I wanted Rory Atkins and was appauled when we drafted the unknown Josh Prudden over him.
I was yet to see the light.

I haven't seen it yet. Only taking the word of the "faithful"

He won't be. Had more than enough chances in a team screaming out for the qualities he possesses and wasn't good enough.

Hmmm interesting thread. I've been wrong on players plenty of times before (Cameron Wight, Liam Jones...) but rarely have an opinion before they are drafted.
The last two drafts I have paid more attention and wanted Stringer in 2012 and Aish in 2013. I'm happy with both calls as it's too early to tell on Aish. Yeah Bonti looks a superstar but it's only one year in.

Or maybe there just shit ?

What are the chances that that many top draft choices are shit? There's an obvious endemic problem in the Dees development program.
Maybe they have had bad luck , I honestly don't think any of them could have been any better at other clubs other than maybe trengove but at the end of the day he is soft like watts

Nobody has that much bad luck.
The reason they are "soft" is because nobody taught them to be hard. Nobody set standards at training, nobody said "hey kid. This is how you play football! ". Instead they got told they were stars before they played a game, they were given praise on the Footy Show and then they were left on their own and asked to fill the shoes of senior players.
Very few kids could survive in that environment.

You can't really teach players to be hard , they either have it or they don't
