2009:
Hinesight:
30 Luke Ball
62 Ben Sinclair
75 Josh Thomas
85 Simon Buckley
Knightsight:
30 Luke Ball
62 Josh Thomas
75 Matthew Panos
85 Dylan Grimes
*Notes: Also would have at the time jumped on the Ball for pick 30 + Goldsack trade, but turns out we were able to keep Goldsack and still get Ball which is a bonus! Josh Thomas to me represented a bargain at 62 and I consider him a genuine top 30 prospect in this draft. Matthew Panos likewise also represents great value, another I consider a top 30 quality prospect, straight kicking full forward who is a leading full forward not unlike Matthew Lloyd. Dylan Grimes is a key position defender who with Simon Prestigiacomo nearing the end of his career to me was necessary, has a great attitude and is someone I rated as being a top 50 prospect in this draft, also would have considered with pick 85: Joseph Dare, Roland Ah Chee, Andrew Hooper, Serhat Temel, Kyle Hartigan, Michael Barlow, Myles Sewell, Jaryd Cachia, Majak Daw, Derick Wanganeen, Chris Irving and Alex Carey who I all would have considered worthy of being taken with pick 85.*
*Had we not traded Pick 14 + Pick 46 for Darren Jolly
14 Luke Tapscott
30 Luke Ball
46 Troy Taylor
62 Josh Thomas
75 Matthew Panos
Notes: Would have gone through with the Jolly trade anyway, just I would still have been very happy with a draft that looks like this! Big fan of Tapscott and consider him a top 10 prospect, has a booming kick and a big body, Tapscott to me if we had have kept this pick was the guy I would have been praying would drop. Would have also taken a good look at Bastinac at 14 also who I don’t rate far behind Scully, which should tell you that he is a hell of a prospect. At 46 would be looking at Taylor and Fitzpatrick, Fitzpatrick is an athletic ruckman/ forward but personally would be much more interested in the potential Taylor offers, Taylor would offer our forwardline greater flexibility and allow players like Thomas, Didak and Davis more midfield time. Josh Thomas being available at 62 would be incredible and he is an absolute gem, can see him developing into a really handy mid. Panos is a natural full forward who kicks straight and to me is a top 30 prospect. Funnily enough these are my 5 favourite prospects in this draft that I selected, I’m also a fan of Bastinac, Fitzpatrick, Crichton, Harwood and James Craig.*
Hindsight: (To come next year)
2008:
Hinesight:
11 Steele Sidebottom Murray Bushrangers Collingwood
29 Dayne Beams Southport Sharks Collingwood
45 Jarrad Blight Swan Districts Collingwood
46 Luke Rounds Geelong Falcons Collingwood
73 Leigh Brown North Melbourne Collingwood
Knightsight:
11 Steele Sidebottom Murray Bushrangers Collingwood
29 Dayne Beams Southport Sharks Collingwood
45 Jordan Lisle Oakleigh Chargers
46 Dylan Joyce Calder Cannons
73 Ben Cousins Port Melbourne
*Notes:
Was not in favour of trading Shaw after a strong 2008 season, but he expressed a desire for change. But was in favour of the Corrie trade and saw him as a handy goal sneak that would free up Thomas and perhaps Didak or Davis for midfield time.
At 11 always wanted Sidebottom, after his completely dominant Grand Final performance he really stuck out to me as he would have everyone who watched that game.
Wanted Samuel Wright at 29, but because he went to North Melbourne at 27, I went with Beams as he was a slider who I really saw as being quite a nice player.
Dylan Joyce is currently playing VFL footy for Williamstown in the VFL. Won the Calder Cannons B+F, still really like him and think he definitely is deserving of a rookie listing somewhere.
Lisle went to Hawthorn at pick 50, was expected to be a top 20-30 guy in most circles, nice key position guy who I can see playing either end.
Also considered Matthew De Boer and Neville Jetta at 45 and 46.
Otherwise Ben Cousins I would have definitely have taken this risk on.*
*Had we retained our original picks: (Meaning we would have retained Rhyce Shaw and pick 61, and not have traded for Anthony Corrie and picks 46 and 91)
11 Steele Sidebottom Murray Bushrangers Collingwood
29 Dayne Beams Southport Sharks Collingwood
45 Jordan Lisle Oakleigh Chargers
61 Dylan Joyce Calder Cannons
73 Leigh Brown North Melbourne Collingwood
91 Ben Cousins Port Melbourne*
Hindsight:
11 Steele Sidebottom Murray Bushrangers Collingwood
29 Dayne Beams Southport Sharks Collingwood
45 Jarrad Blight Swan Districts Collingwood
46 Ben Cousins Port Melbourne
73 Leigh Brown North Melbourne Collingwood
*Some players will come through from the later rounds and the such that we don't know about yet, but this is simply more so based on what we have seen this year and how well it would have worked out had we gone with these picks this year.*
*Had we retained our original picks: (Meaning we would have retained Rhyce Shaw and pick 61, and not have traded for Anthony Corrie and picks 46 and 91).
11 Steele Sidebottom Murray Bushrangers Collingwood
29 Dayne Beams Southport Sharks Collingwood
45 Jarrad Blight Swan Districts Collingwood
61 Jeff Garlett Swan Districts
73 Leigh Brown North Melbourne Collingwood
91 Ben Cousins Port Melbourne*
2007:
Hinesight
31 John McCarthy Dandenong Stingrays Collingwood
47 Toby Thoolen Bendigo Pioneers Collingwood
61 Jaxson Barham Geelong Falcons Collingwood
Knightsight
31 Chris Mayne Perth
47 Mitchell Farmer Calder Cannons
61 Jaxson Barham Geelong Falcons Collingwood
*Notes: Mayne I really liked, had seen some of his footy and really liked what I saw, didn't really rate McCarthy at the time due to injury problems, however he has surprised me and looks like he will be quite reasonable. Still prefer Mayne. As for Farmer I saw him as a really handy guy to have down back with Ben Johnson moving more to the midfield, I saw and still see a need for another small back.*
*Had we retained pick 14 which we traded for Cameron Wood.
14 Scott Selwood Bendigo Pioneers
31 Chris Mayne Perth
47 Mitchell Farmer Calder Cannons
61 Jaxson Barham Geelong Falcons Collingwood*
*Notes: I really wanted Scott Selwood, it is too early to say who will be better out of Selwood or Cam Wood, but at the time I was really keen on Selwood and disappointed that we gave up our first round draft pick for what I thought at the time to be a depth ruckman in Wood.*
Hindsight:
31 Chris Mayne Perth
47 Brad Dalziell East Fremantle
61 Shane Mumford Geelong VFL
*Notes:
Dalziell was not even on my radar. Came from nowhere. Mayne I was always convinced that he would turn out well and it is great to see one of my picks succeed. Mumford like Dalziell, really progressed quickly in a very short space of time, was not on my radar either.*
*Had we retained pick 14 which we traded for Cameron Wood.
14 Harry Taylor East Fremantle
31 Chris Mayne Perth
47 Brad Dalziell East Fremantle
61 Shane Mumford Geelong VFL *
Notes: Harry Taylor the mature age draftee has gone onto bigger and better things for Geelong. Had we not traded Cam Wood could have possibly got him.*
2006:
Hinesight:
8 Ben Reid Murray_Bushrangers
10 Nathan Brown North Ballarat Rebels
28 Chris Dawes
44 Brad Dick East Fremantle Football Club Collingwood
63 Tyson Goldsack Gippsland Power Collingwood
Knightsight:
8 David Armitage Morningside Football Club
10 Jack Riewoldt Tassie Mariners
28 Kurt Tippett Southport Football Club
44 Kyle Reimers Peel Thunder Football Club
63 Tyson Goldsack Gippsland Power
*Notes: Was really happy with the Tarrant for Medhurst + Pick 8 in the super draft. Liked Armitage as I thought we really needed a mid with one of our 2 top 10 picks at the time. Riewoldt was the other guy on my radar, with Tarrant gone and Rocca nearing the end really thought Riewoldt was the guy. Dawes at 28 I was not fond of, was an injury pleagued guy who didn't deserve a top 30 spot in my view, really loved Tippett's athleticism and it has been great to see him develop and live up to his potential recently. Reimers after the last 2 picks being key position players I really thought was the guy, thought he might be a really handy midfielder, and could still be, also liked David MacKay who is developing well for Adelaide, Dick was on my radar, just rated these guys ahead of him and thought that with Didak and Davis up forward we didn’t need any other smalls. 63 I was hoping we would get Goldsack and my preyers were answered, I saw him as an athletic Dustin Flecture type and he definately hasn't disappointed, can see him still developing further.*
*Had we not traded Chris Tarrant for Pick 8 and Paul Medhurst:
10 Jack Riewoldt Tassie Mariners
28 Kurt Tippett Southport Football Club
44 Kyle Reimers Peel Thunder Football Club
63 Tyson Goldsack Gippsland Power
75 Jamie McNamara East Fremantle Football Club
Notes: Was really high on McNamara and thought that he would be a really handy addition.*
Hindsight:
8 Ben Reid Murray_Bushrangers
10 Nathan Brown North Ballarat Rebels
28 Kurt Tippett Southport Football Club
44 Jesse White Southport Sharks
63 Clinton Jones South Fremantle
* Jesse White came from nowhere, discounted him for a rookie, but he has really come on and good on him. Jones was not on my radar and has done well to be as good as he is. Tippett I’m really happy to be able to put up there being one of my picks. Also with Reid and Brown will keep them there for now unless someone else comes through big time.*
*Had we not traded Chris Tarrant for Pick 8 and Paul Medhurst:
10 Nathan Brown North Ballarat Rebels
28 Kurt Tippett Southport Football Club
44 Jesse White Southport Sharks
63 Tyson Goldsack Gippsland Power
75 Clinton Jones South Fremantle*

2 Dale Thomas Gippsland Power Collingwood
5 Scott Pendlebury Gippsland Power Collingwood
21 Bernie Vince Woodville-West Torrens Football Club
23 Matt Riggio Peel Thunder Football Club
37 John Anthony Northern Knights Football Club Collingwood
52 Clint Bartram Geelong Falcons
*Notes:
At 2 and 5 like Hine I also had my eye on Dale Thomas who ripped it up in the TAC Cup Grand Final and Scott Pendlebury who while injured was all class and a guy who is known for his work ethic and his desire for perfection.
Bernie Vince the classy mid I was really keen on, like Pendlebury had this level of class that made him stand out.
Riggio I was also a fan of. Hasn't really made it the way I thought he would at North Melbourne, but still have faith at another club he could make it.
Jack Anthony I was also quite keen on, saw him as a long term replacement for Jimmy Clement, really liked what he had to offer, interestingly he has become "by accident" a completely different player to what anyone including he had envisaged. Instead of using the preseason draft pick I really had my eye on Bartram, thought he would be a talent, and it showed in his first season, although injury in more recent times has held him back, and this season was fairly unimpressive. Also had my eye on the smokie Justin Sweeney who was delisted by St Kilda.*
*Had we not traded Richard Cole for Pick 23 which I was in favour of at the time:
2 Dale Thomas Gippsland Power Collingwood
5 Scott Pendlebury Gippsland Power Collingwood
21 Bernie Vince Woodville-West Torrens Football Club
37 John Anthony Northern Knights Football Club Collingwood
52 Clint Bartram Geelong Falcons*
Hindsight
2 Scott Pendlebury Gippsland Power Collingwood
5 Grant Birchall Tassie Mariners
21 Bernie Vince Woodville-West Torrens Football Club
23 Mathew Stokes Woodville-West Torrens
37 Matthew Priddis Subiaco
*Had we not traded Richard Cole for Pick 23 which I was in favour of at the time:
2 Scott Pendlebury Gippsland Power Collingwood
5 Grant Birchall Tassie Mariners
21 Bernie Vince Woodville-West Torrens Football Club
37 Matthew Priddis Subiaco
PSD:
2 Jason Porplyzia West Adelaide Football Club
*Notes, well since a few years have gone by it just goes to show how some players can pop up from nowhere. Priddis went in the rookie draft and has turned out to be a very handy midfielder. Stokes who I rated as a rookie pick has proven to be a really nice small forward. And Birchall has been huge for Hawthorn down back. Porplyzia for Adelaide has had a great impact and every season has improved well.*

10 Chris Egan Murray Bushrangers Collingwood
23 Sean Rusling West Adelaide Football Club Collingwood
39 (F/S) Travis Cloke Eastern Ranges Collingwood
55 Adam Iacobucci Calder Cannons Collingwood
Pre Season Draft:
2 Blake Caracella Brisbane Lions Collingwood
Knightsight
10 Andrew Lee Tasmanian Devils Football Club
23 Justin Sherman Clarence Football Club
39 (F/S) Travis Cloke Eastern Ranges Collingwood
55 Brad Moran Southport Sharks
66 Chris Bryan Frankston Dolphins
*Notes: This was my first draft ever, but I still don't completely dislike it. Andrew Lee ended up going to Essendon, really liked him for his long kicking and marking, thought that he would be a great prospect, just turned out not to be in the end. Justin Sherman I really rated, great reader of the footy and saw him as being a Collingwood version of a Jason Akermanis. Also didn’t mind Van Berlo at 23. Brad Moran I liked as a backup ruckman for Fraser, really thought at the time we needed more ruck depth. Funny about Chris Bryan, in his first season looked like a really bright prospect, but then never lived up to his potential, funny how he ended up at Collingwood years later. One player I did really like. Was a weak draft and was pretty hard to find the right prospects so all things considered was happy.*
*Had we not traded Bo Nixon and Pick 7 for Hawthorn pick 10 and 37 and have not traded pick 37 for Chad Morrison:
7 Andrew Lee Tasmanian Devils Football Club
23 Justin Sherman Clarence Football Club
39 (F/S) Travis Cloke Eastern Ranges Collingwood
55 Brad Moran Southport Sharks
66 Chris Bryan Frankston Dolphins*

*Notes, way off this year but you can't have perfect years every year. This was my first year of drafting so all things considered was pretty happy with some of the players I was keen on.*
*Had we not traded Bo Nixon and Pick 7 for Hawthorn pick 10 and 37 and have not traded pick 37 for Chad Morrison:
