9300, what a difference a day makes. The Dragons played in front of 1000 people on Friday night then last night against the Tigers have a full crowd at Hisense Arena(formerly Vodafone). Melbourne know how to turn up to sporting events in big numbers. Crowd was pumping and it was a great atmosphere.

Dragons played some great bball tonight against a Tigers outfit who had a shocking night shooting wise. Dragons defense played well also.

Joe Ingles is a great player and had an excellent match. Almost got the triple double. Hopefully he makes it to the NBA, but will keep enjoying watching him play for the Dragons.

This is also the first time the Tigers have lost to an opposing Victorian team for a number of years.

how's about that alley oop in the 2nd/3rd? quarter.. can't remember who it was.. was either groves or vukona IIRC... was sensational!

loving the booing of ebi ere:D

(seeing it live definitely changed my opinion of the NBL, great night of quality basketball)

It was the other import Darden who finished off the alley-oop. I think the game actually had a bit of everything, the enemy team, the enemy player, big 3's, big dunks, an alley-oop great and even great half-time entertainment. I've been going to Basketball games for nearly 15 years and never seen such an involved crowd/participants as I saw last night at half-time

And I won $110 on the result :)

Was keen to go but had stuff on. Would have prefered it, and it would have been the smart thing to do, to have the game on a friday night, yeah?

Good win from all reports though. That's unreal that Ebi got booed.

Didn't the dragons beat the tigers last year?

Dragons/Tigers will not have home games typically on a Friday Night as thats when all the kids are out playing their rep-ball, Tigers have had maybe 1 or 2 Friday night games in the last 5 years.

Dragons beat the Tigers in their first season, the first derby at Vodafone Arena and Ingles starred then too.

I think this season will see a Dragons/Tigers Grand Final series, which would be a boom for the NBL.

I think last night is a perfect example of why Melbourne needs two teams (esp if they are thikning about re-structuring the league)
I could never support only one melbourne team with those other muppets who follow the Tigers.

Went to the game last night with about 8 mates.

Was a great game.

Tigers shooting was terrible as some ppl have already mentioned.

Dragons were simply awesome.

Ingles is a gun, his alley to Darden (I think it was?) was the highlight of the night.

It was the 2nd game at Vodafone the Dragons won that season. Tigers smacked them the first time when Price was still coach.

Fantastic crowd! would have gone but had my own basketball game, not that upset I missed it since I'm a Tigers fan :p

dont get too carried away with 9000 people showing up, tigers games have not been selling out the cage and dragons attendances have been under 3000 at times
I went Saturday night and the game has nearly restored my faith in the NBL!

Why didn't the Herald Sun on Sunday give credence to the crowd figures to hopefully give Basketball a much needed lift?

I agree. I read the article and all it did was quickly mention the crowd figure without mentioning it was the biggest sized crowd to a game of NBL in Melbourne for years.

The game had it all, great entertainment, exciting, great atmoshphere and great ball as well. Most entertained I have been at a game for a long time.

Will the Tiger and Seamus McCheap ever consider playing the return derby at the Rod laver arena?

After getting 9000 people at the game last weekend maybe next time they could break the 10,000. By all accounts it was a great game and great night and the positive publicity being generated will get 10,000 at the Rod laver Arena easy. It would be far better for the Tigers and basketball in general than the sultry 3000 at the State Netball Hockey Centre.

Plus this is why Victoria needs both NBL sides in any future league.

Tigers have a contract with the Hockey & Netball Center that doesn't let them play home games anywhere else I think, or something along those lines. Would push 15k the first time simply for the novelty of basketball returning to Rod Laver.

seamus mcconflictofinterest, why not allow the dragons play at the cage when rod laver is unavailable in january and switching tigers home games against the dragons to rod laver.

shows the level of unprofessionalism of the nbl and not promoting the game due to small minded adminstrators.

seamus, disallowing the dragons to play at the cage during the tennis is petty and just idiotic. what was the reason mcmuppet for disallowing the dragons to play at the cage? because the tigers own the score board and they paid for it, very childish actually.

by the way, i'm a perth wildcat supporter living in melbourne.

I believe that’s an NBL ruling where they don’t want the same two sides playing out of the same venue for home games. Not sure why they would have this ruling but i heard that before so it’s not Seamus who is screwing everyone around, it’s that other genius running the NBL - Chuck Harmison and don’t get me started on his effort over the last 24 months.

sorry, i dont have a link but in either in the age or herald sun seamus gave the scoreboard issue as rationale that the dragons couldnt play at the cage (was a direct quote).

also, seamus is actually on the nbl board who made that decision to not allow another team play a home in another team venue . funny, it actually only impacts two teams.
