Yes because I'm clearly talking about not trying.

Don't underestimate the importance of Ballantyne to our structure, without his forward pressure opposition teams just walk the ball out of our forward 50.

And I dont deny Ballantyne is important. What
I find ridiculous is that some supporters would actually rather the game be cancelled and us handed 2 points.

Im not even sure if this thread is serious.
Of course it is:D
I agree with Maniac we should not play any more football all year and no one wants to see a game anymore just progress up the ladder every week by getting 2 points every game whilst all the losing teams go down we go up:thumbsu::thumbsu:
Great Idea:rolleyes:

Some of the stuff some people are spitting out on here is pathetic!

We complained our heads off last year for not playing at the MCG. Shit record or not we need the experience. I'm not taking Melbourne lightly but we can win this game.

each game we've played at the G this year, we've gotten closer to a win. i had this one penciled in. we're playing with a heap of resolve at the moment that melbourne can't match because right now they're a rabble and a soft one at that. go for the four points because we're familiar with the ground, barlow will lift the team and we've got momentum. it is the perfect time to break another hoodoo.

Agree with BananaOnTheRun, although I don't have this one penciled in. As much as people are saying the match will depend on which Melbourne turn up, if the play like they played against St Kilda they will get a right old touch up. A MCG win is a must and have we broken a hoodoo this year?

Mind you as kp junior said, our percentage is crap. Freo need to absolutely flog Brisbane and the Gold Coast and this is my concern with this team, they don't put teams away like they should.

Just heard on the radio that any games cancelled this week due to the Ash, would be a draw.
If our game is cancelled we get 2 points which will be a massive boost for us considering all of the teams that have had draws this year.
Saints (18 points)play Geelong which you would think is a loss for them so we would end up effectively 3 games ahead of them.
Essendon (22 points)are playing North, a loss could see us 1 game clear of them.
There are many different variables, but a weeks rest (would mean no injuries) and 2 points would be bloody handy.
I say bring on the ash, give us 2 points!!

Winning two points, or losing two points?

It's like the glass half full/empty, but in reverse.

P.S. Some of the logic in this thread is ****ing epic. Holy shit.

Some of the posters have left me well behind with their maths, how is a draw going to improve our foir/against percentage more than a win? And how is 26 pts and a good percentage better than 28 pts and a crap percentage?

wtf @ this thread. Our depth players finally all stand up and show good combined form against the dons and we have a chance to carry that form to finally kill off the MCG hoodoo against the inconsistent Melbourne. Yet people think that it's in our best interest to have take the 2 points and have a bye it's proven time and time again this year that nothing kills momentum more than having a bye.

We should be looking to maintain our form as much as possible so we can get some good percentage off the two following back to back clashes at Subi.

The point is, with our crap percentage a draw is almost as good as a win, not better. ie 26 points and crap percentage is as good as 28 points and crap percentage. Better than the teams on 24, and worse than the teams on 28.

Obviously a win is still the best outcome.

If I were you guys I would be desperatley trying to take the draw.

And I'm pretty sure I represent the vast majority when I say I don't give a **** what you think.

Seriously.....why do we have to endure so many west coast fans on this board?

4 points. You play football to win games. If you can't beat Melbourne at the G then forget about the 8 let alone beating Pies, Blues, Cats and hawthorn there in the finals.
Will see you there Sunday, I'll be the guy in purple.

Take the draw. Dees always lift against us at the MCG and we always flog them at subi.

2 points is better than what we would get this week.:(

Thread is irrelevant. Chartered flights are being arranged by the AFL. We'll be flying under the ash.

Not for us apparently - last I heard anyway?

If we are talking pure mathmatical probabilities, then taking the 2 points is by far the best option, there's no two ways about it.

But in the real life of things, I definitely would say 'let's play'. As others have said, it's not just the points that are at stake, there's so much more- one being I just like watching us play. That's what fans want don't they?

FWIW, I don't think we'll win. Melbourne will respond (again) after a disapointing loss, and we're just too thin on the ground to do four solid quarters. But you never know and a win would be HUGE for us given the circumstances and set us up for the second half of the season nicely.

Ridiculous.

Apart from being a weak minded way of thinking about what is a 50/50 game, we are surrounded by teams who have had a draw with better percentage.

4 points or GTFO

Losing a Mundy who was playing partly injured isn't going to take much away from our midfield against these bottom sides. So why are people worrying about him? Barlow is a much better midfielder and is coming back looking like he hasn't missed a step.

Balla's form has been pretty poor also, likely due to playing with a slight strain in hammy and telling everyone it's just cramp. We've been carrying both Mundy and Balla to the teams detriment due to them being injured. With Barlow and Palmer back we should look a much better side. We should thrash Melbourne due simply to the aura Barlow has and the confidence it will give the team. If we don't then perhaps the plane should be hit by the volcanic dust on the way back and give them a scare. Make them realize there is nothing more important in this world than football.

Can't underestimate how vital this game against Melbourne this weekend is with Brisbane and Gold Coast plus a bye to follow. Despite the sides problems with injury atm moment it's a great opportunity to get on roll before some pretty tough home games later in the season against Hawthorn, Carlton and Collingwood.

4 points please. Reasonably confident about this match, the return of Barlow to inspire all!

Also I think our side is 5 times better with MJ out of the backline. Seriously.

I'll sort of give you Mundy - though don't agree with all of it. But Balla??? Did you see last week's game. He was extremely good and probably the only player still getting up and down the ground with pace in in the last quarter when everybody seemed to tire badly (before coming off all together of course). Frodo is a vital ingredient for us these days - when he's up we're a significantly better team. Having said that, if he gives us a game like he played against the Hawks, then we may well be better off without him.

I was getting pretty angry watching Ballas stand 10 metres to the left of his teammate who'd taken a mark - Ballas was just standing there with his hands on his hips with a handfull of other players. He didn't get back up and running again until Fyfe & half the team started to.

But I do think he'd be invaluable in our side this weekend if he was available.
