We really missed Myers yesterday.

That's the first draw I've ever been to live, as an aside. Seriously weird feeling.
Same. Was at the city end, the crowd on that last play was insanely loud.

Kinda getting sick of the same tired line from Bomber. The team has dished this crap up all season.. at some point he, or someone else, needs to take ownership of the problem and give them a kick up the ass or whatever it takes to get them to play consistently.

Let's all hope the finals are enough to spur them into action.

Would have thought that the players should be doing that, not sure why you'd blame it on Bomber (or any other coach)

That was my first draw live as well. I had no idea what to do at the end. I just sat there staring into space. I can only imagine what the 2010 GF must've been like.

We are seriously a very average football side. As I've mentioned we're about a 7-10 side. We are no where near challenging for a top 4 position. Not even close. (I dare someone to say ''Oh but we were challenging for top place round 18 last year''). Other then Western Bulldogs & Melbourne, I don't think anyone plays as dumb football as we do.

Carlton. Did you see the last 30 seconds when they failed to punch it through for a behind to win the game. Mind boggling stupidity. A fitting way for the game to end.

How many get out of jail cards do we actually have?

I was at that end, and could not believe that they simply did not get the ball over the line. Gibbs take a mark with 59 seconds left on the clock. What does Mick Malthouse do? He get's up and walks down the boundary line. Who is communicating to the runner? You see a runner stand 10 meters to the right of Gibbs most likely telling him that there is less then 30 seconds left. Why tell him for? I would be hovering around the goal square, screaming to every blue to simply punch the ball through. We were gassed, there was no way we were going to go coast to coast.

With the age demographic of our side we should have been top 4 this year.

Our senior core of Watson, Goddard, Chapman, Ryder, Fletcher, Stanton, Howlett, Hocking, Dempsey, Winderlich and a few others should have got us there. Most have failed to produce their best this year and they won't get any better and they'll continue to fade.

Unless we get some miraculous improvement from our 23 and under guys we'll be in the same boat as this year. Lot rests on the Merret boys, Colyer, Gleeson and a few others to nudge the older good ordinary guys out.

I agree with the bolded statement only. But there were other factors in play this year. Nothing to suggest that any players other than Chappy and Winderlich, and possibly Fletcher will be affected by age next year. However we have the emergence of both Merretts, Gleeson, Ashby, Fantasia, Ambrose and JD to get really excited about.

Our core A-graders next year: Watson, Heppell, Goddard, Carlisle, Hurley, Ryder, Zaka, Hibberd and Hooker (9). Our solid B - B+ graders next year: Stanton, Z Merrett, Baguley, Coyler (4). With unknown but likely to be average to above average players: J Merrett, Gleeson, Daniher, Ambrose, Chapman (5).

That is 18 players that you could reasonably expect to be better than average players with enough 'cream' to really start to look threatening. There is nothing to suggest that with the right coaching and motivation.. this group won't be top 4 next year.

Also Kane Lucas is seriously afraid of body contact.

Meh. I'll take it. In fact, I actually cheered a bit at the siren with the draw because it's all about next week for me. The boys would have been looking at next week. I was a little perplexed at us managing a 10 goal turn around, only to lose the game. Odd, but there you go.

In any case, I think it's pretty clear Bomber wasn't allowed to match last years record under Hirdy of 13 wins so he made us win 12.5 games.

Looking forward to a cracking game next Saturday night - I am confident the boys can iron out the issues.

Nitpicking here, but we won 14 last year.

Mark Athorn's 93 GF is the single worst individual performance I've ever seen in a game of footy.
There was a point made on the Carlton board during the week that the last Carlton players from the 1993 GF were Ratten and McKay, who retired in 2003. Of course, we still have Fletcher going eleven years later.

Anyway, the discussion then turned to who the first players to retire were. Ours was Timmy Watson. One of the Carlton posters then observed rather dryly that Mark Athorn was Carlton's first retiree from that game- at about half time. :D

Lol. I've been crook this week and thought it an opportune time to re-visit this game. I made a point of noting particular player's performances that day and that bloke was truly out of his depth. He must still have nightmares of a Loooongggg blur flashing by on the big stage.
