Who are you looking forward to getting with the Eagles first round pick if the opportunity came for us to pick up anyone we wanted

I'm stuck between Callum Burges and Mathew Moody myself

does anyone have any good info on burges....ie height, weight position etc.

all ive heard is that hes from hale and the eagles might have been keeping him quiet.

If Wirrpunda is placed on the trade table, as has been rumoured, we may even get another first round pick out of this draftor a highly sort after player of equal value. October could be very interesting.

Callum Burges
West Perth
May 15, 86
Height 185
Weight 80

Medium midfielder with excellent athletic qualities. From Hale School. Had limited WAFL exposure this year. Dynamic when up forward and penetrating kick. In initial WA U16’s squad last year.

Here's the guys that a lot of us have been looking at. My comments are in bold, so feel free to ignore them. Profiles taken from here

Jacob Surjan South Fremantle Aug 15, 85 179 cm 75 kg

Small, inside left foot midfielder with good goal sense. Reads ball well off packs. WA representative in 2003. From South Coogee FC.
Sounds like a Kerr type (i.e. in and under), just the kind we could use. Could easily become a Humm though, and short midfielders is not what we need. 2nd rd pick for us at best IMO

Adam Cooney West Adelaide Sep 30, 85 186 cm 81 kg

Medium, inside midfielder who can play back or forward and is capable of kicking goals. Exciting, dashing type who won McCallum Medal as the SANFL’s U/17 B & F in 2002. Has balance and skill and was a member of the 2002 AIS-AFL Academy. All-Australian U/18 in 2002 and 2003. From Flagstaff Hill FC.
Who says we can't dream? If we somehow did snare him, imagine our midfield in 2yrs time... *drools*

Farren Ray Peel Thunder Mar 29, 86 181 cm 73 kg

Medium, inside midfielder with creative talent and good athleticism. Strong and brave in the air. Member of AIS-AFL Academy in 2003, and won All-Australian U/18 honours representing WA being named its most valuable player. From Mandurah Centals FC
Sounds great, would love him at the club

Callum Burges West Perth May 15, 86 185 cm 80 kg

Medium midfielder with excellent athletic qualities. From Hale School. Had limited WAFL exposure this year. Dynamic when up forward and penetrating kick. In initial WA U16’s squad last year.
Good size, athletic, penetrating kick. Would be great, but worth our #11 pick though?

Raphael Clarke St Marys - Darwin Sep 24, 85 189 cm 78 kg

Medium, outside forward who rarely gets beaten one-on-one. Athletic type, with a good aerobic capacity. AIS-AFL Academy member and won All-Australian honours in 2002. Brother of Xavier who is at St Kilda.
Been getting a lot of criticism by experts on these boards as being overrated. Probably won't last past St Kilda's 1st pick

Matthew Moody South Fremantle Sep 23, 85 187 cm 80 kg

Medium, outside forward who finds space and is a penetrating kick. Smart near goals. All-Australian U/18 in 2002. Member AIS-AFL Academy in 2002. Vice-captain of WA at 2003 National AFL U/18 Championships. From Kelmscott FC.
Do we need another Haynes type player? Outside forward, finds space (i.e. leads), penetrating kick, sounds very similar to Haynes

Matthew Spencer Swan Districts Jan 17, 85 193 cm 88 kg

Tall, inside forward who has strength and stamina. Good overhead mark, fantastic competitor, and shows leadership qualities. Has courage. Captain of the WA U/18 side this year. From Trinity College.
Yes please. Sounds like an Embley type. Would love to get him

Michael Johnson Perth Oct 20, 84 194 cm 92 kg

Tall, outside defender/forward who is an intelligent footballer with very good ball skills. Can go forward and be dangerous. From Belmont FC.
Yes please. Good height, good ball skills. Sounds like a better version of Glass.

Michael Pettigrew West Perth Mar 16, 85 192 cm 80 kg

Tall, outside defender or forward who has good agility and speed for his size. Has excellent recovery and great below the knees. AIS-AFL Academy member in 2002. From Whitford FC.
I dunno. I'm going by these guys profiles, and all the profiles sound alike...

Kepler Bradley West Perth Nov 13, 85 198 cm 88 kg

Tall, outside ruckman who is athletic and has good endurance. Capable of playing on a wing if needed. Good ball winner. Winner of the Larke Medal for best Division One player at the National AFL U/18 Championships. All-Australian U/18 in 2003. From Kingsley F.C.
Another ruckman to add to our collection

Sounds like a Kerr type (i.e. in and under), just the kind we could use. Could easily become a Humm though, and short midfielders is not what we need. 2nd rd pick for us at best IMO

Totally off the mark D4E. For starters he is a right-footer who due to the effectiveness of the left foot is mistaken for a left footer. Plays a Simon Black style of game. Looking at him in the flesh would imagine is taller than 179cms probably 181-182.

Profiles were from the AFL website, so don't expect anything really informative from them (or accurate for that matter).

Burges was invited to the draft camp. To qualify for the draft camp, at least 6 clubs had to nominate a player - so if the Eagles were trying to hide Burges by playing him at Hale - 5 other clubs know of him now and want to find out a bit more about him!
