My side prior to NAB cup:

Goddard
Enright
Chad
Birch
Adcock
Malcheski
Houlihan

(suban, rance)

Swan
Selwood
Gibbs
Boak/VB
Coggs
Rich

(swift beams)

Cox
Ottens
(currie tippet)

Pavlich
Lids
Harvey
Lucas
Reid
Yarran
Sidebottom

(Gumby, walker/brown)

Not totally happy with it. Alot will depend on my low priced forwards performing and also Coggs getting on the park. Ideally I want to get Hasleby into the side but atm im not sure as to who to expense.

Backs:
Andrew Carrazzo
Brendon Goddard
Chad Cornes
Jason Gram
Jed Adcock
Ryan Houlihan
Jesse W. Smith
(Stephen Hill, Michael Hurley)

Mids:
Kane Cornes
Joel Selwood
Shane Tuck
Bryce Gibbs
Mark Coughlan
Daniel Rich
(Steele Sidebottom, Jason Davenport)

Rucks:
Brad Ottens
Hamish McIntosh
(Tyrone Vickery, Daniel Currie)

Forwards:
Matthew Pavlich
Brett Deledio
Brent Harvey
Scott Lucas
Shaun Higgins
Chris Yarran
Trent Hentschel
(Scott Gumbleton, Hayden Ballantyne)

I figure best to risk the forwardline as it appears to have the best offering in cheap rookies/players. If all goes to plan hopefully I should only need to trade-in 4 -7 players.

Comments, Opinions?

Why though?

Untill he eliminates those several games a season where he scores below 50 he will never average 85.

What's changed to say that he will?

Played more midfield later in the season and Lyon has said he intends to continue playin g both him and Goddard there.

Second half of the season Gram averaged 85.. Cheap keeper IMO

Hmm interesting. Been considering him but weren't people saying this last year about him also?

Also I currently have Fisher and Goddard in my team and I wouldn't be to keen on having 3 saints backs.

just wondering, what the price brackets are u would say for Premiums/Mid/Cheap/Rookies this year? and last year?

What are you basing this on though? Gut feeling?

Not saying it won't happen, but how can you say he will jump from 77 to 90, before he has played a NAB cup game?
True, and yes its a bit of gut feeling.
I really do think that the time in the midfield will make him score alot better.

We're thinking very much along the same lines. I haven't heard that Yarran has been doing anything special in the pre season and i'd be wondering how the tigers can get everyone minutes in their midfied. Tuck was the player benched most for us last year and now we have Cuz and Cogs to try and get into the rotation. Add to that the possibility of Raines returning to at least a bench spot and that Wallace has stated Jackson has been so good he's in our starting 18 at the moment and centreline minutes start to drop. I'm going to Goschs paddock on thurs to watch the intra club, it'll be very interesting i reckon.

Im not sure, but i wouldnt be overly worried about yarren. Think he might be more of an impact player, and probably struggling a little with full professional AFL training. I still have no doubt he will play 15+ games at least in 2009 though.

Yeah but playing 15 games at his price isn't really a reason to pick him as a starter.

There's cheaper players that will also most likely play 15+ games.

I don't think its a massive issue. If anyone is going to lose midfield time it should defiantly not be Tuck he was unstoppable last last year, winning a shitloads of contested footy which is so important in winning games of football. Cogs hasn't played for a long time i don;t think he will be getting much time on the ground let alone the midfield, he will struggle he needs to be eased into it. Cousins as well will struggle for time on the ground, due to age and injury, Wallace will be wary he will be used more as a burst player aka Ryan Griffen.

Tuck increased his scores by a major amount late last year it makes me think.....surely he had increased midfield time late in the season.

Yes Juddy your correct.

However Yarran has a higher ceiling in my opinion. Gumbles, Brown, Walker etc will probably average 40-55, as they are not built very well and can get beaten easily and play a role that restricts scoring. However with Yarran he can lead and mark, run accross half forward, crumb......we all saw how good cyril was. This is why I really want to see Ballantyne get fit.

Haven't seen Gumby really but to say Brown is not built very well?

Brown is massive, always has been big. Probably one of our strongest players.

Yarran is risk, but then again, who really isn't a risk in that price bracket?

I still think I may pick him, but if Ballantyne is fit I may lean towards him. Or perhaps both, who knows.

Definitely can't see Yarran having the year Cyril did, that's not necessarily a bad thing though. He can still do well without being in Rilois class.

Apparently ran last in the time trial also.

you beat me to it Juddy88, Brown is huge i think he is just under 100kg and still has time to put on more weight if his body holds up i could see him playing 20+ games.

Yarran is more pricey than a few other options but i recon he will be more consistent than alot of the others Gumby,Brown,Walker....ect and also should play the majority of the season

I don't even see Cogs in the side for rd 1 let alone struggle for TOG, but very soon he'll be in the rotation. If you take Tucky he's a keeper but i don't see his numbers rising a whole lot if any. Where would you put Delidio?

Late in the season we started winning games so everyones numbers went up. Cuz will start if he's not injured, there's too much riding on it and he hasn't put a foot wrong all pre season and in fact they've asked him too slow down. Earlier in the week he had 14 possessions in 1 qtr so i'd love a burst player to keep that up.

For what it's worth this is how i see it with the ones in red rotating through the centreline. Jackson will actually probably tag as he's got the motor. Getting pretty crowded in there.

FB: Jordan McMahon, Will Thursfield, Joel Bowden
HB: Chris Newman, Luke McGuane, Kelvin Moore
C: Matthew Richardson, Shane Tuck, Brett Deledio
HF: Mitch Morton, Jack Riewoldt, Ben Cousins
FF: Daniel Jackson, Cleve Hughes, Nathan G. Brown
Fol: Troy Simmonds, Kane Johnson, Nathan Foley
Int: Adam Pattison, Richard Tambling, Matt White, Shane Edwards

Emg: Raines, Thomson, Schulz, Coughlan

Possibles: Hislop

Cotchin is an unlikely starter now.

15+ games from a draftee is fine IMO? And if he is named round one then he is more than likely to play the first 5-8 probably (what is required as a cash cow).

Well, I need at least two FW rookies, and i would say these two are the best available. I wouldnt be worried about yarren coming last in the TT - he isnt a MFer who requires endurance. If someone like daniel rich, or rhys palmer (in 2007) came last, then i might get a little worried and read some more info on them, but this doesnt worry me (especially when it was a coupld of months ago now). I recommend Going and watching some videos on youtube of yarren, and you will see he is very very skilled and classy.

Any suggestions/ideas or criticism welcome, still fairly new (3rd Season) at this but think I've done ok. Fan Footy has me at about 1615 points which is a pretty crap score projection

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated....Cheers

put adcock in the backs
never start a back/mid in the midfield always put them in the backs
you have some poor players in ur team. Juud isnt a DTer although its debatable i guess. Put Higgins in the forward line not the midfield
imo Nuke it and start again.
