Read some training reports (on team boards), and a few of these threads on rookies and structure (rucks thread for example) and you will be greatly rewarded - takes time, but it is worth it.

A few pointers about your rookies:

Schoenmakers wont get into the hawks side.

Natanui will miss first 5-6 weeks of season with knee injury.

Watts is doing school so wont play that much.

Only rough at this stage, and with 50 days to go, will probably have 20+ changes

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I've just done a bit of an overhaul and moved a players positions (Adcock and Higgins).

Ditched the 3 rookies as mentioned above and replaced with Vickery, Yarran and S.Hill

Cheers Again

Firstly just letting everyone know that the jingles is back for 09!!
Been a while since i last posted...looking forward to a long and hopefully dominant season of DT!! Looking to crack the top 50 after a positive finish last year in the 50's...hopefully snatch victory off all you boys....umm and girls!!
Seems like it's already going off on this forum, with ppl posting teams already..will they ever learn...keep posting ur squads ppls...so i know who not to pick!! ha!! Jokes!!
The games begin now!

15+ games from a draftee is fine IMO? And if he is named round one then he is more than likely to play the first 5-8 probably (what is required as a cash cow).

Yeah but at his price, it shouldn't be the SOLE reason. There are others cheaper who will probably play the same if not more. I'm not against picking him but I don't think he should be a lock based purely on Cyril last year.

Well, I need at least two FW rookies, and i would say these two are the best available. I wouldnt be worried about yarren coming last in the TT - he isnt a MFer who requires endurance. If someone like daniel rich, or rhys palmer (in 2007) came last, then i might get a little worried and read some more info on them, but this doesnt worry me (especially when it was a coupld of months ago now). I recommend Going and watching some videos on youtube of yarren, and you will see he is very very skilled and classy.

Yeah but being skilled and classy doesn't equate to DT points. He's a very lazy footballer, but very skilled.

It does worry me as it show either, he is very unfit, or that he isn't willing to put the effort in yet.

Who knows though.

Word of advice mate..DT starts in 50 days..i think u will be changing that team of yours more than once!

Played around with my team for most of the day.

Forwards
B Harvey

Yarran
Sidebottom
Hogan

Ballantyne
Walker

So few rookies looking like they'll dominate this year makes it very hard.
I've been contemplating taking out Reilly and putting dangerfield on the ... field and upgrading yarran to a pretty good forward.

If it goes down the way i think it will.. then
Rielly avg 90 vs Dangerfield avg 60 then upgrade after about 6-7 rounds
Yarran avg 45 vs Roughead avg 80..
any thoughts?

True, but class and skill means he is likely to get games, and he has to get games to make money. Also, considering he averaged 19 disposals, 3.5 tackles, 3 marks, and 2.5 goals in the six games he has played in WAFL over the last two years (K:H ratio of about two also), i think he will score well too (for a rookie).

12 kicks = 36 points
7 handballs = 14 points
2.5 goals = 15 points
3.5 tackles = 14 points
3 marks = 9 points

Total = approximately 88 point average over last two years in WAFL (rough quick estimates from stats in prospectus).

Also averaged around 70 in U/18 championships.

So i think expecting him to average around 60-65 like cyril did isnt out of the question.

Good to see some banter. Look forward to tearing your team apart in 09.

Like you, i cant believe how quickly people are posting squads. At first i was against it...but now its making me feel good knowing how much better my side is!

Hmm true, interesting stats.

I mean what's to say a Sidebottom won't average the same, or more, and he is 20K cheaper? Or even another rookie. Just weighing up the pricing options is all.

Yep, but i think yarren is definately in the best 3 rookies (how many i need) for the FWs, hence why i have at this stage pencilled him in (will watch in nab cup etc before making a certainty).

Nuke it and start again? Major overhaul? Cosmetic touch-ups only?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated....Cheers

My 2c is theres not enough proven players in the side.
As noted previous Adcock should be in your backline only.
Higgins should be in your Forward line.

backline:
Im not a fan of Hurn, only played like 6 games last year and average is poor. Myers didnt play much football prior to his injury and is abit of a risk at his price. I would probably consider getting a cheaper rookie style player or pick someone whos cemented in the top 22 for their team and will average the same.

Forwards:
Watts is unlikely to play much due to being in school.
Even if he plays all the home games you could still probably have time to sell a cash cow and downgrade to him later since his in your starting 22 perhaps look at yarran.
Porp/Headland - Injury/Suspension prone. Also with porpz at his price maybe abit risky. Headland potential gain if he plays 22 and improves but combined with your other forwards perhaps your risking a donut.

Personally id probably nuke the team.
Youve got some good choices just some are in the wrong area and you need a little more depth (premiums), If someone like Ablett was to get injured you would struggle for captaincy options.

I think I've gone with too many risky players (JWS, Headland etc) so I'll definitely be looking more closely at changing this, but for now that's what I've got. Might get Yarran in somehow as well (just swapped him out for Headland)

Edit: just swapped Headland and JS for Birchall and Yarran! Birchall brings in some stability, which this team lacks at the moment

You picking Rich in your team mate? Because he came last also in the Brisbane time trial.

Lol, a little defensive are we?

Yes I am, I'm also probably picking Yarran.

I never said his time trial results were going to stop me from picking him.

B: Scotland, Cornes, Newman, Macdonald, Adcock, J Smith, S Hill, (Suban, Petrenko)
M: Black, S Burgoyne, Fletcher, Griffen, Coughlan, Rich (Dangerfield, Beams)
R: Cox, Mcintosh (Cordy, Currie)
F: Franklin, Gianciracusa, ROK, Porplyzia, Higgins, Yarran, Hentschel (Ballantyne, Gumbleton)

Questioning the players in bold... still have $272,900 banked
