Dreamworld

When I was a kid I had to choose one of the 3 theme parks to visit while we were on holidays in Brissy. I chose Movieworld and boy did it suck.

You can see they are starting to consider and address this a lil more, by making the wait for the ride 'Interactive'. For instance, the new Cyclone ride at Dreamworld has a big indoor cylinda (sp?) with a spiral staircase. I was there at a quiet time and waited one hour. While it's basically just a que, they are beggining to attempt to fix this frustration.
IMO much more could be done to entertain the punters while they wait.

The Tower of Terror and The Giant Drop had videos of drag racing to watch while you were waiting. Pretty boring but at least it was something. Cyclone also had a video of cyclones to watch.

When I was last there they didn't have the TVs in for the Cyclone, but you could see they were still working on it.

Either they let less people in, or make the que a ride in itself.

It is an international problem that all funparks would be concerned about. And not just funparks, even the smaller Tourist Attractions are waking up to this.

In fact it's probably more important than the actual ride.. keeping people happy while waiting.

That doesn't sound too bad after my trip to the USA. At Disney World it was common to have to wait at least an hour for the most popular rides. As for Dreamworld, it is certainly on my 'to do' list as I have never been. Will be up in February so will check it out then.

If you've been to Disneyland, Universal Studios, Magic Mountain or any of the other American Parks you'll be disappointed with Dreamland or the other parks in QLD, they aren't in the same league. Especially avoid Movie World, it tries to be a little piece of America advertising all the "movies" that have been made there, I hadn't heard of 99% of them, they must've all went straight to the specials shelf in the DVD shops.

Yeah MovieWorld is the worst by a mile. But little kids like it.

Currently Dreamworld sits on about 35 ha of land that they are using. They, or the Japanese businessman who owns the whole kit and kabootle, also own an further 80 ha of adjoining land.

They've just released plans to extend to that 80ha including 2 highrise accomodation Hotels. They are planning on being as big as Disney.

Coomera, where Dreamworld is located, is also expected to increase and expand it's population from around 10,000 to around 70,000 people in the next 5-10 years. Well this is what council are planning for.

Universal Studios is easily the worstplace I've ever been to, and while Disneyland was alright, it was just too sickly for my tastes.

Dreamworld is the best theme park easily.

The Claw is a great ride although we had to wait an hour and a half before getting on it...and half an hour of that was waiting for one ride to finish after there had been a malfunction with the floor that drops below your feet before you start riding. Normally that would have put me off going on it but we were half way in line and we thought "there's no way we're getting out now"!

Agree there mog. People Stay away from Universal Studios. Such an overated place to go to. Disneyland is ok, they have nice rides like space mountain and splash mountain, however they have real stinkers (it's a small world anyone? ).

Six Flags Magic Mountain is the way to go if you're in California!

And Dreamworld rocks my socks...Giant Drop is the best ride there imo

I disagree - I have been to amusement parks around the world and IMO Dreamworld is up there with the best of them. I would say that it is definitely in the same league as the ones you mentioned. Busch Gardens in Florida and Alton Towers in England are probably the best ones I have been to but Dreamworld is not that far behind. The Giant Drop would be up there with Nemesis (roller coaster at Alton Towers) as my favourite rides. The Tower of Terror is the fastest ride in the world. Just because something is in America doesn't make it bigger and better.

I've heard that in some amusement park in America (can't remember which one) they have a ticketing system where you go to a ride you want to go on,take a ticket(like at the supermarket) which tells you what time to come back for your ride and you basically get straight on.

Everytime I see this damn thread I get "Dreamworld" by Midnight Oil stuck in my head!

Haven't been to Queensland at all, but been to Disneyland and Universal. Liked them both, possibly because I have nothing else to compare them to.

I got to lift up the A-Team van with one hand, sit in Magnum PI's car and watch a stunt-performance featuring Miami Vice people....that was all pretty cool... :)

If you're talking about the Universal Studios in Los Angeles then I agree. The one in Orlando is a lot better. Disneyland is good for families but if your're a thrillseeker like me it's not. I didn't get to Magic Mountain in LA but Knott's Berry Farm was good. I loved Montezuma's Revenge.

Another vote for Dreamworld.

Loved it all, except the Big Drop. You know how they say keep your head back at all times? I sneezed just as it dropped, head went forward, neck went crack... I didn't do any serious damage, but like with any neck injury, I didn't feel right for the rest of the day.

Joy :)

Yeh I did that on the lethal weapon! Hurt at the time, seems funny now though!

That's odd. I always move my neck on that ride. It has some low 'g's compared to rides like 'Thunder Bolt'.

BTW, If you have a weak neck and want to end your life, then the 'Thunder Bolt' is for you.

it doesn't exist anymore

Yeah the Cyclone is now where the Thunderbolt used to be. But I agree, that thing was hell.. Id get off with my ears feeling like they'd been boxed.
